Quick trip report for Esther's kitchen for lunch -

After Dominic's review (for dinner) we showed up at 11:15 or so on last Thurs. We were the first people there, although it started to fill in pretty quickly, and I think they do a pretty good lunch business. Parking was on the street but easy and plentiful - the area looks like a former sketchy apot that is now gentrifying, although I have no idea if that's accurate. No hesitation about leaving the car parked.

It's an order at the counter, take a number to your table and they bring the food to you operation for lunch - I had a meatball sandwich on a crispy roll that held up nicely - 2+ big meatballs with the right amount of sauce so as to not soggy up the roll. Wife had a chicken parm sandwich that was per her quite tasty. She had a glass of house chardonnay which she was very happy with, and I had a local IPA on tap that was a little hoppy but good (16 oz pour) Each sandwich came with a small "artesianal" green salad with oil and vinegar - nothing special but nice to have given the rich sandwiches. Total came to $41.00 not counting tip, which I felt was reasonable. We'd happily go back. (And Dom, thanks for the suggestion)

Comments at bolded. 1) This is Vegas. We don't do gentrification. We attempt it. Safe neighborhood when the sun is up. 2) You win the best new phrase for a sammich

Just coming back to this (agree this has too much fat on the corner compared to others I've had or seen). How was the atmosphere there? Would you think its good as a pre- going out spot for a few guys?

My other korean bbq spots are Magal, and recently got into Goong

How plentiful were all the accompaniments?

Great spot, 8oz is amazing. The only place that compares IMO is Hobak

The reason I end up at Magal all the time is I give up waiting at Hobak.... Might have to try it next time!

I got a notification for this this morning and I don't know if it has been mentioned yet but the best BBQ in town is at Jessie Rae's BBQ. It is a hole in the wall but excellent.

+1 on Jessie Rae’s. Best BBQ in Vegas ahead of the original Rollin’ Smoke on Highland.

Jessie Rae's is great, huge portions, prices reasonable, best ribs for sure. I think the chopped brisket at rollin smoke is better though. Still have yet to find burnt ends perfection anywhere though.

Finally went to the new Lotus on Flamingo...

Just fantastic. The new building and decor is sleek, modern, and comfy. Place was packed on a Sunday night. Service great, as always.

6 of us went and had some tom kha soup, fish cakes, pad thai, pork belly, chicken panang, veggie panang, combo fried rice, some Northern fish dish, wontons, and lots of beer. Oh, and there is not a better dessert in the universe than mango sticky rice.

Oh, and there is nothing like Thai peppers in fish sauce to spice up a dish. I could use that on just about anything, on a daily basis.

Tried the general thread with no luck and by some definitions it’s casual dining ...

Any recs for which strip casinos provide the best free drinks while gambling? For example I think I remember someone mentioning awhile back that Wynn will make you a legit mojito.

I'm keenly interested in others' answers to this too.

Venetian/Palazzo will definitely comp you a mojito as well.

I seem to remember the Wynn wine was a step up from the cough syrup a lot of strip places serve, though still nothing amazing.

The best was when Linq comped any beer under $10 (which was most of them) to diamonds. Linq got like all of my sports/ponies/pit action when they did that. I sure hope they being this back.

You'll think this is nuts (and yes I know you said "strip") but check out Main Street Station if you like beer. The in-house beer there is definitely a bit nicer than the beer you can get comped on the strip.

V/P also has actual margaritas as well, as my half of the table except me demonstrated over the weekend

I second this. We went there back in March and was awesome as always. The new location and restaurant is awesome.

Any other opinions on the John Mulls vs Jessie Raes debate? In particular in areas of brisket, ribs, and pulled pork? Barbecue is tough because great barbecue is just one of the best meals you can have, and medicore bbq is some of the least satisfying for me.

IYO, maybe. But IMO, BBQ, like pizza and sex, is still OK, even when it isn't great. But when it's great, look out!

What are you looking for re:Chinese? Big Wong, China mama (closed for renovations now), Joyful House, Hong Kong garden, Wendys Noodle House, Liang's, Asian BBQ & Noodle all provide different experiences. Then there are a bunch of ok dim sum places: HK Garden, Orchid Garden, Chang's, Yum Cha, ...

This should get you started. If you're looking for Americanized Chinese a la NYC takeout, I can't help you.

For breakfast sandwiches harrie's bagelmania on twain and Swenson. I almost always eat bkfast at home, but the Peppermill is my go-to casual sit down, Tableau and Bouchon are the fancy places for meetings or celebrations, I still like Marche Bacchus (not spring valley) for dining with a view, hash house has some good but not cheap options, and frankly if it's just for me I'm either grabbing chick fil a at rancho and Sahara or sitting down at a casino cafe. You have lots of options though: Omelet House, Black Bear, Blueberry Hill, Egg and I, ... I tend to be disappointed in these places. Wife thought Babystacks was ok recently, that's like flamingo and buffalo. DW bistro has good brunch too.
