I swear the quality of Secret Pizza dropped sharply at some point, because I really liked it for the first few years and then all the sudden it was very disappointing. I like Five 50 enough that if I'm close I'll get a slice, but it's a little hit and miss. Pizza Rock slice counter is where it's at IMO.

I really agree that I am not sure if I was just enjoying the alcohol flowing through my body, but really enjoy secret pizza but last two times has been disappointing. Ive been to those guys which owns secret pizza and its good not great. Like you said five 50 is good but definitely not worth going out of your way for. I definitely need to give good pie a chance, the reviews have been excellent.

Went to Japaneiro again for a late night meal. Only poker players in the place at 1am. Crushed the happy hour menu again, although I was playing poker without food for like 12 hours straight and I am not sure the value is as strong as I first thought. Things like the rock shrimp are a complete bargain for 5 bucks, but essentially most of the happy hour menu are one or two bite max. I think I ended up spending about 60 bucks with tip, and while I enjoyed the meal, I definitely left feeling underwhelmed for the price. I would hate to pay full price, I think it would take 100 bucks to fill me up when hungry.

I'm at the Nugget for the first two weeks of my trip this year, so going to be putting in some hours at Pizza Rock.

I've only had room service pizza at Cosmo, which I'm presuming is the same thing. Like you've all said, it was ok, but nothing special.

Secret pizza has been floating along on its reputation for far longer than it deserves based on the quality of the food.

So Secret Pizza was a real thing in the past, not just for after Marquee? Went there >10 times but never even remotely sober. Might have been a mistake.

Just FYI room service pizza at Cosmo is not from secret pizza

I say secret pizza is mediocre but the room service pizza is offensive

Taco Y Taco is vastly superior to Tacos El Gordo, both in terms of food quality and ambience.

Cornish Pasty is the bomb.

Zen Japanese Curry
Udon Monzo
Sora / Monta / Jinya all have +/-'s so try them all
Umiya Sushi is my new jam for sushi in town.
Banh Mi from Dakao
I've not been blown away by Greek food but there's only so many days in a row you can eat ramen (<-- may be a lie): Meraki and Yassou.
Jerusalem garden is at Flamingo and Decatur and does decent pitas.
I still haven't found my slam dunk go-to Chinese place (4 years and counting...) but have been doing dim sum and late night at HK Garden II (5300) a lot more lately.
For lighter you can go to one of the myriad poke or sushiburrito places, e.g., Soho SushiBurrito, JaBurritos, PokeMan.
You should try to do Lotus of Siam one night but make reservations. RIP Chada.
For nicer dinner but still v casual check out Izakaya Go, Ichiza, Hachi.
And regardless, make a reservation for Raku one night and go nuts.

BrianTheMick is all about the Szechuan, so he's been pimping Mian Noodles and Chengdu Taste. I've been to Chengdu Taste once and think I did it wrong so can't really comment. You might **** fire, but it looks so worth it. Planning to eat at Good Pie and Mian Noodles next weekend once I'm back in town.

Viva Las Arepas, Goodwich, Naked City, Tacos El Gordo, Cornish Pasty are all fantastic, and I don't really know the other ones on your list.

Hope this helps.

Also we haven't talked about Frankie's Tiki Room here in awhile but that place needs more love. Golden Tiki is good if you are feeling slightly better about life, a little more Hawaiian maybe, and don't want to be in the world's darkest smokiest bar.

Kabob Kitchen at 10040 W Cheyenne Ave is the best Greek I've had here by a huge margin. I've only eaten there 3 times this month.

Omfg

You scared me into thinking BOTH zen and monzo closed.

Bad enough that monzo closed - I really liked that place.

Are you sure that’s a Greek restaurant? I haven’t been there, but the name suggests it’s the middle eastern kind of Mediterranean place.

Milos is a very good Greek restaurant IMO, but sadly the 3 course lunch that was $20 back when they opened up is $29 now.

Taco y Taco is better than El Gordo in ambience only. El Gordo’s al pastor is superior. Maybe their other options are better...but El Gordo’s pastor reigns supreme.

Never heard of Bomb Tacos.

Yep. If you mention Turkey they yell at you about of the plight of their people. They also serve French fries with their platters, which is as perfect of a signal of "greek restaurant" as anything.

Speaking of Scotch-Irish Americans who just like good food of the middle eastern type and who probably isn't knowledgeable to make fine distinctions, Pro Kabob Persian Restaurant on the corner of Sahara and Valley View serves Afghani fare despite its name. I like the family that runs that place. They are a bit light on the meat and a bit heavy on the rice, but I like it anyway.

You'd be hard-pressed to finish the Gyro Platter at Kabob Kitchen and I think is somewhere around $12.

Usually, the easiest way to distinguish a Greek restaurant from a Middle Eastern one is to check if they use pork, especially in their Gyro. Orthodox Catholics (Greece) eat pork, Muslims (Middle Eastern) don’t. That said, if you tell me the place is Greek, I obviously have no reason not to believe you.

I highly doubt Milos even has gyro and if they do, it’s in the way that an American fine dining restaurant would offer a cheeseburger. At the end of the day, gyro is Greece’s version of fast food just like hamburgers or hotdogs are the US version or pizza is the Italian version. The regular Greek diet is heavy on seafood and vegetables, just like other Mediterranean countries and that’s what most regular restaurants in Greece serve you.
