The Patio

Bank keeps hitting homeruns. This tea/coffee/dessert shop at Hacienda and Decatur has a great vibe. We just had a pot of tea so can't comment on desserts but they looked phenomenal-- we definitely will be back there.

Banditos which is across the street from Tuscany on Flamingo is really good imo. Great happy hour as well and I like the vibe in there.

ust came back after a week in LV. Here's a few snapshot reviews of a couple new places I tries on the world tour of paradise:

Canter's Deli @ Tivoli Village - kinda disappointed! New staff didn't know the menu...had brisket, corned beef, and pastrami...meats were good but price was hi and again service needs to improve...only been open for less than 10 days.

Cornish Pasty Co. - in the Arts Dist. on Charleston. Dark, industrial feel makes for a good date night atmo...pasty = big empenada or small calzone. nice meal that wasn't too heavy. Rough-ish hood so be aware of surroundings on way to car.

Earl of Sandwich - had a decent tuna melt.

The Angry Butcher @ Sam's Town - i know Sam's town, but my local friends who live on the east side love their book. gotta admit for a Saturday, w/ NCAAF and MLB going on they kept the volume in check. weirdos and nits stayed away too (bonus!!!). new steakhouse...tried the bone-in rib eye. very good! perfectly cooked. shared sides of whipped spuds and 'shrooms were also VG.

Black Bear Diner = go to for quick meals...ate there 2x. had nice asian salad, then chicken fried steak. both VG.

Fun trip, not nearly enuff poker...too tired to play the Wynn ME. Gr8 rooms @ Encore and PH.

Ate at Ruth Chris steakhouse last night inside Harrahs and it was pretty bad to say the least..Last night was my 4th time eating at a Ruth's but the first time eating at the one at Harrahs. Compared to my 3 previous visits it was as if I was eating at a totally different restaurant. Food was mediocre at best but the main problem was the waitress. Im not over exaggerating at all, it was either she had a severe coke problem or she had the flu. She literally was sniffling every time we would talk to her, I mean talk about off putting when you're at a semi nice/expensive restaurant. The last thing you want is someone sick sniffling the whole time you're trying to speak with them. If we weren't in a hurry to make a show after I not only wouldve brought up the waitress situation but also the steak was cooked poorly as well.

So I guess my question to you guys is do I make a complaint?

Im not a complainer at all and could easily let the mediocre food slide but the waitress situation keeps bugging me, not to mention it was close to 3 bills and also sorta ruined our experience of us being there celebrating my gf's 30th bday.

Rebel Republic on West Sahara serves some seriously good grub. It is basically kitty-corner from Herbs and Rye. Cheese curds were excellent, pastrami sammie was excellent, wings were good, and whatever else we ordered was pretty good as well.

Your waitress probably had a cold, maybe the flu, possibly was smitten by the plague. People who make hourly wages plus hourly tips don't take time off for such things. Tip better so they can take a day off when they are sick, or stfu.

Also, your gf is in need of turning in. Thirty is way past their prime. You actually celebrated that like it was a good thing, or was it some sort of sarcastic version of a death knell? She is probably going to need to be parted out unless she is a really nice fixer-upper. I can, for a reasonable sum, help you with trading her in for a more less-dated gf.

Lol Brian is completely off the rails

The waitress thing is variance, especially at a Ruth's. The steak thing you obviously deal with directly - unless you just don't care.

Also, 3 bills seems hideously expensive for a Ruth's in Harrah's LV.

You're right I should've tipped her better before the meal??? LOL makes sense, my dalorian is in the shop though so I wasn't able to time travel that day... Waitress being sick is not my problem or should it be, I'm actually hoping she was a coke fiend just so theres no chance of her giving us bird flu or sars. Plus it would be more respectable Imo.

There are only two parties to blame here. The waitress for showing up to work sick and her shift manager for not sending her home immediately. That person is handling your food which makes it totally unacceptable in my opinion.

I don't know how much Ruth's prices differ based on location, but $300 (including tax and tip) sounds pretty standard to me for 3 courses each and a bottle of wine. That's one of the reasons why I haven't been to Ruth Chris or Capital Grille in a while, just too little bang for your buck.

I don't disagree that it is not your problem. It is just a problem that you happened to encounter, much like you might encounter a pothole in Buffalo, NY. If you want to be around healthy people, what you really want to do is not go to restaurants. Or, now that I am thinking about it, you should probably avoid grocers as well.

Out of curiosity, how was the steak "cooked poorly as well"? Did they accidentally poach it instead of grilling it, or was it something of a more common cooking mistake?

Despite your objections, it is standard. Something about misaligned negative externalities amongst the various concerned parties. You prefer to not catch the plague, the waitress prefers not missing out on the money she needs for rent (and apparently for some more effective nose spray and kleenex) and not taking the 100% chance that her future hours get cut because will be judged as "unreliable" because she cannot show up for all of her shifts, and the shift manager doesn't want to be short-handed or to have to call in the crappy waitress who doesn't get many hours because she always gets in the weeds despite only ever being trusted to handle one or two small tops.

TBQH, I share your opinion that it is unacceptable, but I find lots of facts to be unacceptable despite their persistence in being facts.

They both have the advantage of being unlikely to be surprising. If you like the comfort of knowing exactly what you are in for, they aren't bad choices at all.

Went to Gordon ramsey Pub and Grill at Caesars. Food was fine-to-good (6? 7?/10) pub food but fairly overpriced. $30 fish and chips? $28 butter chicken curry? $24 shepherd's pie? No sense going there unless comp/business Imo. In more uplifting news, the conversation was great.

My opinion on Gordon Ramsey restaurants in Vegas:
- Gordon Ramsey Burger (formerly BurGR): really good, fair prices for Strip standards
- Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips: Fishwitch is good and decent value for $15 for the combo including fries and drink
- Gordon Ramsay Steak: Have been there once, thought it was good but no reason to return with that many very good steakhouses on the Strip. If I went again, I'd definitely get the Beef Wellington instead of a "standard" steak.
- Pub & Grill: Mediocre bar food at ridiculous prices. IIRC, they charge $11+ for beers (including Coors Light) and something like $20 for a hard shake. Based on the one sip I had of each, the Campfire S'Mores shake at Holsteins is way better than the one at P&G and also $5 cheaper.

Overall: I'd recommend GR Burger, wouldn't discourage anyone from going to GR Fish & Chips, suggest other steakhouses over GR Steak and say "bloody hell, no!" to GR Pub & Grill

i had the most disgusting burger of my life at BurGR. the "ultimate cheeseburger." i have no idea what dublinar or boursin are, i ordered it because of the name obviously. don't get the ultimate cheeseburger.

Yeah the beers were $11 for a standard tier and $13 for (e.g.,) DFH 60 -- 20oz.

"Hard" Milkshakes on the dessert menu were $19. Regular desserts were $11.

We had a shepherd's pie and the chicken curry. It wasn't that they tasted bad, I just wouldn't order again at these prices. Our companions had the salmon and a burger. Both looked... fine? Would much rather go to Mesa Grill/Searsucker/Nobu and spend the little bit extra.

I'd think the kinda sweet taste of Dublinar might go well on a burger. Boursin is not too different from cream cheese, no idea why anybody would want to have that on their burger.

I had their signature burger and the one with arugula and sundried tomatoes and liked both.

Def +1 to the review of the Ramsay places. BurGr for me is the best of the burger places on the strip (onion rings and chicken wings are both really good). Fish and chips place makes for a really nice fast option, I feel like his steak place is slightly underrated, and man is his pub at Caesars bad. The value is horrendous, and the food somehow was way more mediocre there.

+1 to assessment of burgr being great and fish and chips hitting the spot.

also agree that gordon ramsay pub and grill is way way overpriced, but just wanted to say for some reason, i really really like their wings. and their happy hour from 2-5pm has $7 for half order of wings
