In the 60s, Howard Johnsons was one of the few places you could rely on to have pistachio ice cream.

Made with real pistachios? I was very excited to see that most ice cream brands in the US have pistachio ice cream and even more disappointed to find out almost all of them don't contain any pistachios.

Still trying to find some that contains a significant amount of pistachios for less than $5/pint. Aldi occasionally has some and Talenti is always on sale somewhere, but that's about it.

Recently passed Howard Johnson on Tropicana when I was walking from the airport to the Strip, that place has seen better days.

Hmmmm. I didn't know that there were any Howard Johnsons left.

Re ice cream: Sometimes the Lappert's upstairs at the California Casino has pistachio. It may be the best I've ever had...

I thought the Howard Johnson motel next to Hooters was owned by the same chain. A quick Wikipedia search tells me there's only one restaurant left in NY and the rights to the name are owned by Wyndham now.

I ate at Coco's (next to the HoJo by Hooter's) and got pretty good omlette/coffee combo with fast service. Would return on next walk to airport.

Only tipped 20%, as I am already married.

Walk to the airport? Only computes if you are using the private/charter terminal.

Not sure why so many people make that out to be a big deal. I've done the walk from/to McCarran to Planet Hollywood 4 times over the last 6 weeks now and I think it's not a problem at all.

Temperature for this one was "only" 102, but I didn't think 110 was too bad either.

He was in the service on leave in Myrtle Beach, she was 18 and working her first job as a freshman in college. My Dad always had half a grapefruit for breakfast. One morning at my Mom's HJ's, my Dad came in, took a shine to her, and tipped her 25 cents on a grapefruit that only cost a fine.

They were married 6 months later.

How's that?

That'll do quite fine

We should recommend a restaurant now to get things back on track. I heard a rumor that Boss's's's's' BBQ's's's' is enjoyed greatly by Mr. Malmuth.

I take so many pictures of people walking to the airport that it isn't really funny anymore.

Generally speaking, walking 3 miles isn't a big deal, I just can't imagine wanting to do it in 110 degree heat with luggage, especially when you can use UberPool for like 4 bucks.

I only travel with a "personal item" anyway, which is a backpack that can hold clothing for 3 days and walk in my running stuff that I bring with me everywhere anyway. I don't care about the cost of Uber, I just like walking. Especially towards the Strip at night is pretty cool.

Since this thread is supposed to be about casual dining:
I always walk past the Hofbräuhaus but haven't been in there since 2009. Has anyone been there for Oktoberfest in the past?

Regarding pistachios: I think that Baskin & Robbins at the Orleans uses real pistachios.

Now I'll know why the guy sitting next to be on the plane is drenched in sweat, smells like ***, and is complaining about getting almost getting robbed on his "walk" to the airport....
