What are your favorite food choices there?

I found the al pastor taco to be out of this world but everything else was just good.

Thank you.

appetizers: great ceviche, great corn thingy (don't know what it's called)

I've tried every taco that I might like and they're all quite good...

That's my issue also... my wife is from Jalisco and Mexican food is WAY Better at home than almost any Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at.

The only Mexican places that impress are those Taquerias where the specialty meats are the main show piece.

Yes, very good food and drinks, good date spot. Get the bread, it's ridiculously tasty.

Thought it was great when I went 2 or so years ago. Gobbo rates it too iirc.

No idea about new location tho.

Friend looking for a recommendation a "fancy-ish" dinner around $75-$100 including drinks for 11 people. Some places he mentioned include "Barrymore, fogo de chao, Joe's seafood, Joe viscaris, del frisco." Any thoughts?

I think Bouchon is doable in that price range and i think their dinner is underrated compared to their brunch.

Still some of the best foie preparations you can get anywhere.

Thanks! I've only been there for the amazing chicken and waffles, I'll pass it along as it seems like a pretty good option.

Re: Las Vegas Casual Dining Thread

Went to Carbone last night, not sure whether that's considered fine dining or casual. Food was really good. The cherry pepper ribs were incredible and the portion was gigantic, couldn't eat it all. Potato side dish was awesome. Prices are really high even for Aria. The shrimp cocktail was five medium sized shrimp for $35 while the ribs were $39 and probably weighed two pounds. Would go back. Would not get the shrimp cocktail again.

At those prices it's certainly not casual, but I've never heard a bad thing said about that restaurant

Accurate.

I was actually surprised that I wasn't underwhelmed by it...since very little on-the-strip dining has wowed me for a long time. This did not wow me, but I was certainly happy with everything but the prices.

Funny enough I was supposed to go last night but cancelled and had a great meal at Ferraros instead.

I'm a little gunshy on strip Italian after a mediocre meal at Il moulino at $500 for 2 people. (And seriously, 2 tip lines?!)

We went to Boss's BBQ on Green Valley Parkway off of Sunset. We were not impressed. The ribs while properly cooked and juicy were using some sort of mustard rub, that was pretty bad. The pulled pork lacked flavor, and the chicken had the same not very good rub. $28 bucks for the Boss combo of a half rack of ribs, chicken, a pulled pork sandwich, and a hotlink.

Re: Las Vegas Casual Dining Thread

I haven't see any more exhaustive reviews of Japaneiro on Warm Springs between Buffalo and Rainbow, but we decided to visit for the first time last night, curious to see what the place is about.

Turns out it's a small, slightly shopworn eatery in a largely deserted strip mall, surrounded by empty storefronts, not exactly glamorous.

As we had little clue what the place was capable of, we started by ordering a few starters for sharing.

It was very warm inside the restaurant, with a freestanding portable A/C struggling to keep the temperature down. At the point whe we had finished the starters, we were in fact so hot that we decided not to order more food, in spite of enjoying everything that had been put in front of us. This is clearly not a place to eat in the heat of the summer, but we would consider coming back in the winter.

Our order included one order of Black Cod lettuce wrap (two small servings), one order or Tuna taco (also two small servings), grilled skewered beef (Kushi), a house salad, and one order of Japaneiro special fried rice.

The fried rice came with shrimp, chicken, and beef, and was OK, not greasy, but in no way outstanding. The house salad was nice, but again just OK.

On the other hand, the remaining three starter courses were all very flavorful, beautifully presented, and enjoyable to eat.

Except for the fried rice the portion sizes were small, but we left feeling that we had eaten just enough to pass for a light meal. Including tip we paid a little more than $40, and thought it was absolute reasonable, but based on the menu we surmised the cost of a full meal for two would run closer to $100, depending on what options we choose.

I completely forgot to take pictures of the food, but here is the check:

What do you think of Tacos el gordo? I had it a couple times over the past month and really enjoyed the al pastor and the vampiros.

If you go there and don't get the adobada/al pastor you did it wrong as wrong can get. Get nothing but the adobada/al pastor. It's so far better than everything else there and it's amazing.

Looks like someone has never tried the suadero (beef belly) at Tacos El Gordo... it's out of this world and better than the adobada in my opinion

Anybody ever had Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers on Warm Springs near Sunset Station?
How does it compare to other fast food burger places?

They got a freddy's out there???

It's a midwest thing (wichita) and I have one where I live. I like it, it's a pared down steak and shake. Pretty greasy, but definitely give it a shot and try the fry sauce.

Freddy's pales in comparison to In and Out. I live off Sunset and Whitney Ranch and have gone there a few times, and I always wonder why I didn't go to Five Guys or In and Out instead which are nearby. The fries and burgers are worse than both places and it is the same price point basically.
