I went to Edo and ordered take out from Jamon Jamon last week.

I had the croquetas in the car and ordered manitas dr cerdo (pork foot stew with chorizo and blood sausage) and callos a la madrilena (cow stomach stew with chorizo and blood sausage)

Having been to Edo like half a dozen times prior I will say that I would now not return to Jaleo of my own volition. Edo fulfills all the checkboxes for it to be a fine dining restaurant for me and within the scope of Las Vegas, a very good one. There is a constant reimagining of their menu based on wanting to explore new techniques, service has a lot of small touches of formality (custom tableware, amuses, changing of plates) use of high quality ingredients, the waitstaff is top notch (formal, friendly and attentive. I was offered and an off menu sherry from 1927 when it became evident to the waiter that I was interested in what I was putting in my mouth. I really appreciated it)

The croquettes at Jamon Jamon we’re excellent. I couldn’t recommend a stew of pigs feet or tripe to other people, but I was happy. I think Jamon Jamon is trying to do classic Spanish tapas without trying to reinvent the wheel in any way. There is nothing wrong with that, but comparing them to Edo is unfair in that regard. Edo will have individual classics that are done by the book like any other tapas place (pan de tomato, bravas patatas, croquettas) that you can compare, but the experience they are aiming for is totally different. I wouldn’t go here with people who are very concerned about value or a date. They don’t have a hard liquor license (apparently you can BYO for the time being), the dining room looks like a tapas place in Spain. You’re there to eat.

I’d go back but there’s novelty in some of the items for me (the offal stews essentially). If I go back for just the tapas I’d feel ripped off. The croquettes were $16 vs Edos $10 (Jamon Jamon had Jamon in them though ) and their vegetable tapas look super underwhelming. They have asparagus with romesco or $14 when they have preserved white asparagus in their deli. Ingredient sourcing is a meant to be a draw of this space and they are not using the best ingredients they can in their cooking).

I’d bet this place doesn’t exist very long so go before it’s gone imo. It doesn’t provide value, it doesn’t provide novelty that most would appreciate and it’s in an awful location. If you don’t care about money youll prob enjoy it

Went to China Mama last night when I was too late for Mian and Shang was way too busy. It was good, but it wasn’t great. Would go back, but would search something else out. Was not super pleased w their Dan Dan (Tan Tan) noodles. Oh well.

The spicy wontons and crispy beef are key at China mama.

I went to Magic Noodle before, wasn’t super impressed, not really memorable. Same with Noodle Man.

had a spicy pork u-wrap from bang bar in cosmo the other night after VGK. Thought it was good. Line at secret pizza was too long and snuck into bang bar just before close. Also got to take a bite of wife's hot chicken from hattie b's and it was also very good. She went 'hot' instead of medium, but i didn't think it was too hot to eat at all.

Had a weird experience at my first attempt at trying Bang Bar a few weeks ago. My gf and i stop in cosmo to specifically try out Bang bar for the first time so we order the fold up, lemonade, and a rice bowl to share and try each. We place our order at the cashier and i already have out 30 bucks cash to pay knowing its going to be under 30.... or so i thought. The cashier is like its 37 something and im immediately like huh? I recheck the menu prices in case i'm somehow wrong but nope the order came out to 27 and after tax should be under 30. The cashier then gives us some story/lie/scam/who knows about how they haven't updated the menu yet and every item is 3 more bucks than whats posted lol???? I dont know if they really hadnt updated the prices or if they somehow thought we werent going to notice and just pay whatever but needless to say i was pretty pissed and just canceled the whole order and we left.... The End lol.

We end up eating over at this shthole chicken place called Crack Shack that was absolutely horrible but at least didnt attempt to rip us off. The End

I went to Crack Shack in Newport Beach and I really liked it, sad to hear you did not like Vegas location which I haven’t tried.

Super lol to not update their menu prices, that’s trash.

Loved the one in San Diego. Ordered delivery once and it was so bad I will only get it again if my fiancé is out of town.

Went to ‘Saffron the Vegetarian Eatery’ last night. Looks like someone decided to plop a well lit Hakkasan with lowered speakers into one of the dodgier lots in Chinatown. Bar was not fully and some supplier issues as some of the menu items were out of stock and it was almost empty when I was there. Food was solid and pretty reasonably priced though

They’re aiming a lot higher than any other vegetarian / vegan spot I’ve been to in Vegas so could be a good spot to look out for once they’ve had some time to iron out some kinks. Would be a great date night if they could fill some seats. Can’t reiterate enough how much of an oasis the dining room is relative to its surroundings

quick question about Bacchanal - are they still going to be taking reservations in September? Or was this more of a COVID thing they'll phase out. Been to vegas 25+ times but never been to this buffet and want to try for the first time - ideally get a reservation of course if they are going to still have them.

Grandma’s pie from Brooklyn’s Best. If you don’t want to commit to a whole one, 2 slices + a drink for $8 at lunch. (Or slice + salad + drink)

Last edited by Wyman; 06-24-2021 at 10:20 PM. Reason: And slices are not small

I do like that grandmas pie. When I have people over I tend to order it, though toppings on the whole thing are pretty expensive, I like it. Also a fan of their carrot cake and cannoli.

Wondering if anyone has been to Tres Cazuelas? Saw it pop up and the reviews are pretty good.

I was just there on the 21st. I'm not sure if reservations are a "COVID thing" or not, but for those that did not have a reservation the line was well over an hour wait, we had one and were seated within 5 minutes.

On a side note while playing a tournament at South Point one day, the line for their buffet was 175 people deep, just to get to the queue line. Maybe some of this gets better if more buffets open down the line.

So I’ll post this here, not on the RW thread, but popped in there to eat lunch today, have been really looking forward to the Asian food court. Sorry to say that even without the horrific technical difficulties, the food was lousy.

Boon tong kee chicken rice was the place I was looking forward to the most. In Singapore I eat chicken rice daily. This was rubbish. Ice cold and served without broth. Over heard them saying “the health department doesn’t let us serve it room temperature” so err ice cold, and with terrible sauces? 2/10

Roti parata spot: 4/10 heavy parata, insipid sauces, and hardly any chicken in it.

Char kway teo spot: acceptable 6.5/10

Shandong dumpling spot: 6/10

The first three items can all be had 20x better at Island Malaysian on spring mountain (their roti is unbelievable).

Unbelievably disappointed.

Currently, and hopefully improving is the fact that it’s a total cluster ***, payment is only on touch screen with card, and half the time they don’t work or communicate that you’ve ordered to the vendor. Seating totally inadequate currently. All fixable and changeable, but what I can’t see changing is how disappointing the food is.

Robata En: Man I wanted to like it. The food was good to very good. Service was totally inattentive, which was inexcusable since there were max three tables seated while we were there last night (actually would’ve been fine if we weren’t baking and constantly needing water - server was at the bar on her phone several times during dinner, in easy sight). It was also 85* in there (sat next to thermostat) and there was a pretty funky smell when we walked in — someone upthread said lamaii smelled, right? Wonder if it’s a sewer or HVAC issue across all those shops. Wife killed a cockroach in the bathroom. I mean I know **** happens and they are near impossible to control but there’s too many good izakayas for us to go back anytime soon. If you go, we liked the brussels, cucumber salad, and ribs. Crab buns were sweet (!?!). Had some sashimi which was good. Food was good but pretty much everything else fell way flat.

based on feedback in this thread it's reasonable to predict Robata En and Lamaii should be breaking their leases soon and relocating. based on sorting yelp reviews by 'new' for both of them there's no sign at all of what's been mentioned here.
not doubting you guys at all, in fact i totally trust you. just highlighting how yelp reviews may not be completely accurate and potentially manipulated.

Pure Indian Cuisine on Sunset was great when my wife and I were in LV 2 weeks ago.

We used a diamond celebration dinner at Amalfi.....I'm not sure I could give this a fair review since we were going to get pastas off the 'Primi' list and they were fairly small. Tasted good, but definitely would have enjoyed larger portions. Pretty sad for us since we usually visited Mesa on every trip.

We also used a second celebration dinner at Rao's. Our first time there and everything was outstanding. My crab carbonara may have been the best pasta dish I ever had.

Gorilla Sushi was a good lunch AYCE.

Enjoyed our meal at Carson Kitchen as well.
