Went there Friday morning. Got the corned beef hash. 2 eggs, which they wouldn't poach - they do "basted," which is effectively over-easy but not greasy. The hash and eggs are served with a mound of whatever they call their breakfast potatoes, but they are homemade potato chips. Chose marble rye over their banana or pumpkin bread. I don't have much of a sweet tooth.

Everything tasted very good.

The bad: they overcooked one of my eggs to hell, so instead of remaking the kitchen decided to put a potato chip over the egg thinking I might not notice? The waitress apologized and quickly brought back two new eggs.

This is an old school place. Wood panels, old carpet, looks more dated than the old Lotus. Feels like everyone should have a cigarette. Would not expect anything plated well. It's no-frills breakfast food. Compares really favorably to Blueberry Hill imo. Went solo and didn't see (let alone taste) pancakes or french toast so can't make a comparison there.

It wasn't cheap. My breakfast was more than $13 + tip with no beverage. Will definitely go back, but mainly for utilitarian reasons. I don't eat breakfast that much.

Ha awesome I was there this morning ordered the exact same thing down to the rye bread. Solid hash but prefer hash browns. I have a trip report where I posted it. Currently high rolling on Las Vegas Blvd, North Strip, place called Poker Palace. Might gamble with the $5 prime rib.

$5 prime rib is a gamble. What type of health insurance do you have? Are your things in order?

Went to My Garage restaurant in Centennial today for breakfast. Everything was great, one of the better corn beef hash I’ve had in Vegas. Solid hash browns and pancakes too. $9 so it was basically free

Lamaii was amazing. I might like it better than Lotus. Is that even an unpopular opinion around these parts?

There is a Lotus-is-overrated club, of which I am a member.

I don’t mess with Lotus because it’s harder to get into, more expensive, less convenient, and I’m not even convinced it’s any better than Lamaii. Love that place, need to go more often.

The honey toast at Lamaii has actually overtaken the butter cake at Mastro’s for my fav dessert ever.

Pizza rock update - if you haven’t had their Detroit style, get it. The crust is incredible.

Anybody have a recommendation for late night prime rib or late anything on Fremont?

If it doesn’t have to be Fremont, it’s hard to beat the $17 prime rib at Ellis Island. Absolutely massive and comes with a potato and garlic green beans and a soup or salad.

+1 to the Detroit style at pizza rock.

Haven’t had Pizza Rock’s Detroit style, but I have had great pizza there. Dom DeMarco’s on Charleston has the best Detroit style pizza I’ve ever had though. Phenomenal.

Yeah tried to go but line was crazy long. Ended up getting ham and eggs at Magnolia in the Four Queens.

Dinner the other night at Esther's Kitchen - my third time there. The place never fails to impress. Great wine, great food, maybe a bit too loud in the place, but I can handle that.

I had the chitarra/cacio e pepe/pecorino/tellicherry peppercorn

Incredible, simple dish. Pasta, some cheese, and pepper...excellent!

My GF and I have been heading to Lotus of Siam, without reservations, at least once a week during the school year at UNLV (we are both professors there), and at least once every two weeks in the summer.

Showing up at the dinner opening time of 5:30 and sitting at the bar is the absolute nuts for two people wanting to dine at Lotus. It's never a wait! Granted, you have to eat at 5:30 lol, but we usually lounge in the corner of the bar for at least two hours, eating, drinking, and talking to other bar diners.

Of course, if you have a group, getting a reservation months in advance is usually needed, but oh well.

I had the fish cakes, some Tom Kha soup, with chicken, and some panang last night. Always good.

I've never heard of Detroit style pizza. I know I could Google it, but does anyone care to elaborate?

I've been in Vegas 3 years and haven't had a good pizza yet.

Maybe someone else can describe better, but it's sorta like Sicilian except with a crispy Caramelized crust. IMO it's fantastic, one of my favorite pizza varietals.

Amazing how Pizza Rock has so many different pizzas and they're all good. Last time I went there the bartender told me they are planning to expand aggressively. IIRC he said Summerlin and Scottsdale, AZ are for sure getting new locations with more to be planned soon.

My mouth waters thinking about the crispy sausage rice appetizer. I hope it's still on the menu!

What style do you typically like? Have you tried going out to get pizza?

Gorged in Sushi Takashi's delicious $60 signature 'Sashimi Boat' a few days ago. Enough fish for two, as a full meal combined with a starter and a dessert.

As our new go to place, I rate Takashi's higher end sushi/sashimi it in the same class as Hachi or Raku. It's a small place, and reservation is a must.

I'll probably be crucified for saying this, but I went to a Frijoles and Frescas near my house the other day, and liked it way more then Tacos El Gordo, which i went to 2 days later (2nd/3rd time).

Had a steak taco where I really got a great flame grilled flavour, and a shrimp taco which was also great. Both pretty decent sized. Had a large watermelon juice too, which was ok, but they obviously add sugar which I dont like, though I'm told thats pretty common in mexican restaurants.

And I appreciated the ease of just ordering and sitting down, no huge line, no having to do 3 different lines if I want 3 different tacos, and lining up again to pay.

Had a party at my place last month and hired a taco guy company to come and do tacos, really awesome, would highly recommend for anyone!
