Am I really the only person who thinks Lotus is kinda overrated? I've been a few times now and can't complain about it, but I've yet to have anything there that blew my mind. I have at Chada. I can't think of anything I've had there that was better than an 8 and have had a bunch of 5-7. Was there as recently has last Friday.

Lotus is my 4th favorite Thai place. I’m a local.

1) Nattays secret kitchen
2) Le Thai downtown
3) Pin kaow rainbow
Then lotus 4th

Before the Chadas closed, lotus would have been 6th.

Random restaurant notes: I live downtown btw
I’m bummed that bomb tacos closed downtown. Really good
Magnolias at four queens has good lousiana gumbo
Filet sliders at Chicago brewery are awesome
Main Street station brewery has gone downhill, terrible
Detroit pizza at pizza rock is unbelievable awesomeness.
Bocho sushi continues to have an awesome happy hour, their rolls are great
Hugo’s cellar has awesome manhattans -served in a carafe in an ice bucket - probably three drinks total
Banger brewing still best brewery in town

Growlers you’re a 4Q fan, hows the food at Hugo’s, what do you recommend?

I like Lotus, I've had good meals there, but there's something about the place that's catnip for middle-aged guys. They just go crazy for it. Shrug.

**** maybe it's cause I'm a middle aged guy. I eat a lot of Le Thai (2, rancho and charleston), and I love it, but I think lotus is far and away, not even close, better.

But I like that lotus's food is interesting and I can't get similar elsewhere, and I definitely assign value to that, so it's possible that side-by-side i would prefer a dish at Le Thai to the version at Lotus.

I think it’s a great place if you have comps, can’t say I’d recommend if paying full rack. I play a ton of video poker there and had $900 in food comps, and eating $20-$30 at a time at magnolias and Chicago brewery doesn’t make a dent.
With that said, wife’s king crab legs was very generous portion for $90, but that includes table side salad and choice of potatoes and some veggies. They also give you chocolate covered strawberries and apricots at the end. So the prices are essentially full meals. My rack of lamb was great (maybe $50?) lobster bisque starter pretty good. Shrimp Cocktail wasn’t good (bit over cooked).
Definitely get a Manhattan or martini as I mentioned - drinks were great and good value.
Next time we go I’m going to get a seafood tower, drinks and table side cherries jubilee and skip the entrees - they won’t let you get dessert at the bar but they told me my plan was fine in the dining room. I feel like I can get better steaks downtown.

Went to Best Friend again tonight, food is still great but they jacked up the prices on some stuff big time. Kalbi plate was $18 last week, now $28. Spicy pork $15 last week, $24 now. Still not ridiculous but kind of annoying.

Hmm, yeah I gathered that. Just surprised that what I thought was an expanding successful business suddenly closed both locations.

Rumors talked about the upcoming opening of "a modern take on classic Thai food restaurant near Macy’s on Spring Mnt."

Article doesn’t state why Chada closed.

Did you stand in different lines depending on what you wanted?
Did they put Korean sauerkraut on your taco?

Looking for suggestions on dinner and drinks tonight. Shooting for meals in the $50 or less range. Obviously don't have any reservations.

just seeing this now but I think people didn't respond because you've given them nothing to go on. Try Once.

Just tried the Durango location of Cheba Hut and it was really good. Will be going back.

This is the G-13, it has roast beef, turkey, bacon, provolone, chipotle mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions, and a pickle spear in the sandwich.

The best one is about a block north of Las Vegas Blvd & Fremont. They're usually posted up in that closed down Gas Station. It's a local staple.

Agree. That was a terrible post. I meant it to specify downtown and also that we had a group of 8-10 but failed to do so. I'll chalk that error up to spending the afternoon drinking and watching the NFL championship games at Westgate.

We ended up going to Triple George Grill based on previous recommendations in this thread. Food was good and prices were great, I think I paid ~$40 for a very solid ribeye. Lack of reservation was definitely not a problem.

Triple George is good. Glad you nailed it.

FWIW with those params, would have recommended there, Spotted Pig, Carson Kitchen (smaller plates), Kitchen at Atomic.
