Used to be a huge Goyemon supporter, love their menu. Last few times I’ve been the service has been terrible, and there were zero people who even resembled being Japanese behind the chef Station and sushi quality suffered too. Don’t go much now as a result.

No, they earned the description. I still eat there though, just like I still go to the Venetian or Wynn or any number of other places run by horrible people.

My mother in law lives in Georgia close to the Alabama border, 50 miles away from where Chick-fil-A was founded. Harsh reality is that a lot of people there don't like gays and are also not huge fans of minorities. I don't have that much personal experience with that, but one of my wife's sisters is gay and her step-sister is married to an African American. They both live there and always complain about discrimination.

Doesn't make it any less disgusting, but before Chick-fil-A expanded out of the South, that anti-gay stance probably played pretty well with a large percentage of their customers.

Im not saying that because it was a gay club that was shot up that a real homophobe would stay away, but serving food on Sundays is a huge no no for any CFA. They were also first on the scene during the Atlanta airport power outage, also on a Sunday.

Also the New Yorker got slammed two days ago for calling CFA a "creepy infiltration of NYC with its pervasive Christian values". Listen I have zero problems with debate or disagreement over any discussion, I just really disagree with throwing around words like racists or sexists or homophobes because you disagree with a certain policy. This is just limiting debate and free speech.

Sorry to derail, Blue Ribbon cheeseburger and fries are best I can find, who can beat that?

I mean they give a ****load ($1M+) of money to FCA (which teaches young athletes to not be gay, and encourages them to turn to the bible to turn away from their impure lifestyles), and they give a ****load ($200k+) of money to the Paul Anderson Youth Home, which teaches kids that sexual abuse is a/the root cause of "the explosion of homosexuality" in the US.

Don't care what words we use for it, but telling gay YA's that it's bad to be gay is effectively bullying, and telling straight YA's it's bad to be gay fosters bullying. Homophobic, bigoted, whatever -- it just makes them *******s imho

"But what about all the good they do?" If those groups were like "hey, don't be mean to them, but blacks are the cause of our problems, god hates them, and whites need to protect each other" we'd be like WTF CHICK FIL A even if they saved tons of (white) babies from rare diseases every year

"Throwing around words" IS free speech.

That you don't that people use words that accurately describe a policy isn't a valid complaint.

Edit: Wyman, Ronalds's Donuts on Spring Mountain isn't bad.

Love Ronald’s. Also good is friendly donut house near boulder highway.

Ronald's is my go-to spot. I also like Real Donuts across from UMC. I am seeking donut holes beyond glazed. Can get chocolate, cinnamon, etc at Dunkin and was hoping somewhere I didn't know about had better ones here.

Glazed donut holes at Ronald's are very good though, and we often just get a box of 100 ($10) to bring somewhere instead of donuts.

Blue Ribbon has a good burger? Good to know. I went for the fried chicken and was disappointed, haven't been back. Will give it another shot if it's better than Holstein's, which I find super overrated

I remember seeing that fried chicken was their signature dish but thought to myself there’s no way I spend $32 on that unless I know it’s really good. So naturally, I convinced somebody else in our party to order it.

It’s a plate of 3 pieces of chicken, mashed potato & gravy and collard greens. Looks and tastes like something you get for $12 at a fast casual place. I’d take Gus Fried Chicken over that 24/7. They opened their first CA locations recently, might not take them long to get to LV.

I guess Blue Ribbon Brasserie is a little less total rip-off than Blue Ribbon Sushi that occupied the space before them.

Man I hope they open a Gus Fried Chicken in LV, I went to the original one in Memphis and it was incredible, best fried chicken I've ever had.

Recent casual finds:

North Italia - pretty amazing for a chain restaurant. Had the grilled branzino which was awesome, also got to try the bolognese (awesome) and truffle garlic bread w/ housemade ricotta (awesome).

Solo Qui coffee and gelato - this place just opened last week off Lake Mead/Buffalo, really good gelato. Had one of those Portuguese egg custard tart things that was delicious, had never tried one before. They also make their own hot chocolate the old-school Italian way with the super thick chocolate. Didn't try it, but someone else had one and it looked amazing

Kitchen at Atomic - had dinner here several times, tried their brunch last week. If you haven't been here yet, do yourself a favor and get down there. One of the best places in Vegas IMO. Menu changes fairly often.

The real problem is that you are out west. Back east you have to wait in line while the kitchen is trying to keep up with demand. There just isn't sufficient demand on an hourly basis for them to bother to make ginger-snap infused maple glazed chocolate donut holes. A shop is lucky here if they can sell an entire batch of boring glazed donuts in a day,* so we are stuck with what we've got.

If you feel the need to get your dander up about things, just go to a Winchell's. They make their donuts twice per month, I think.

*back east, an hour old donut is not considered food.

Going to be staying downtown. Any recommendations within walking distance? We are planning on going to Carson Kitchen. Is it safe to walk there for lunch? Anything on Fremont important enough that we have to go?

Carson’s Kitchen is just off Fremont St., 5 minutes to walk from Golden Nugget.

If there’s anything interesting for you on Fremont St. depends on your preferences, but why are you staying Downtown if that area might not be your cup of tea?

If you like Carson’s Kitchen, you probably also would like The Kitchen at Atomic.

Would settle for just plain old chocolate donut holes, though :-p

Totally understand why Ronald's might not make em - just was hoping someone knew of a shop that did. Idk what the glazed:chocolate ratio at Ronald's is but man they sure sell a lot of glazed donut holes!

Totally safe, even at night. There are several things that are good in the area. But none important enough to plan your trip around.

I like Glaze Donuts and Donut Mania...not sure if either does donut holes. I found Ronald’s to be very pedestrian the one time I went there.

If you're looking for lunch my wife and I liked the Smashed Pig - just east of the major casinos on the south side of Fremont. Check the menu - might be something you like.

The single dish that gets talked about the most when I have conversations with people about Fremont Street is the graveyard oxtail soup at the California. Hugo's Cellar gets mentioned more than most places. I'd probably go for a high-end steak at one of the several places on Fremont before dining on the Strip.

My list of places I want to try the next time I stay downtown are Eureka, Flock and Fowl, and something in the Container Park.

The problem is that none of them are busy enough. An old donut is a ****ty donut.

Even the DD on Harmon and Paradise isn't busy enough to not be kind of ****ty, and DD is the bomb back east.
