I know James Trees has talked a lot about curating specific playlists to fit what he is going for at esters, despite all the work for that I am not sure he has nailed it either. I just turned 40, but super old at heart, simply tough to top Sinatra, tony Bennett, dean cranked at a dimly lit old school Italian or steakhouse.
Massive agree. This will be an old guy take, but these DJs rarely seem to be doing much of anything. Like, this Mex place had one and all he did was play stuff like the most famous Santana songs. How does this differ from a spotify list?
It's also a big pet peeve to go to an upscale place where the median customer is probably 50 and they are playing today's hits, usually too loudly. Us fogeys don't want that. Low class. If you're in a nicer restaurant you might be a bit smarter and more sophisticated than average so, I'm sure a lot of us didn't really care for top 40 pop songs even in our youths.
I don't listen to Sinatra in my car, but it's perfect for a restaurant.
