Well. I'm not really sure how to report this, so just gonna get it out there.

I've been patient for three days. Only carefully timed semi bluffs w/equity, and small steals, and folds when sensing V strength. No spewy tilt at all. Maybe a little hesitant, but zero impatient spew. Eventually it will pay off. Right?

Here's the set up. I've been battling a laggy/maniac physician all day. He's been owning me with big bluffs and suck outs.

It's 2-5. I don't remember the exact preflop action but I'm utg with 10s and he's on button and we go to the flop heads up with about 100 in the pot. For the first time in my life I check in the dark. Board comes 10s4d7d. Really. I finally hit my first set of the trip, and it's against this maniac and my check will surely induce action.

I don't remember exact numbers, but he bets, I min-raise expecting him to sense weakness. He says "that's a big raise". Then he reraised me. I tanked, and shoved (he has 1250 and I cover) for value expecting a call because he gave off a strength tell, and because I saw him get stacked 3x calling off with tptk type hands.

He called. Now what do I have to fade? Surely he has something.

Well, he was on a straight flush draw vs my top set. And this happened:

I yelled at the dealer and stormed out.

Just kidding. I said good hand, then took my small remaining chip stack to the cage and left the poker room.

Not sure if I'll play more before getting on flight tonight. Absolutely not going to the pits, even though that's the only place I've made money. How crazy is that?

All in all, I feel like I put in a good stretch of poker effort regardless of variance related outcomes. And had a good time as well.

Next visit will be in the summer to win a bracelet.

Again, I only win hands with bluffs for the most part, but losing overall due to many suck outs, and complete weak play by me in two big pots since I was gunshy from all the runbad.
Don't feel too bad. I had a long weekend trip where I never made a pair or better with a card in my hand.

If your personal feeling when seeing the 8 peeled off on river isn't "s**t, that's a brutal ass card" followed by watching your stack get counted out; perhaps it is either numbness from repeating that experience previously or a lack of emotional attachment to your stack during the game whatsoever. However, I would feel a gutpunch feeling seeing the straight flush caught.

I didn't say "OMG what a 1-outer, that dumb fishy fish blah blah blah" I just looked at it as if I was in the OPs seat and felt like it was a brutal loss. But, ultimately, it's a moot point.

Gutpunch? He would lose to either a straight or a flush, and it probably wouldn't be the first time. He didn't lose any more money just because his opponent had a straight flush than any other hand that beats his set.

OP was 57.8% favorite on the flop when they got it all in, 70.45% favorite on the turn. 2.5-1 suckouts are gonna happen.

The run good is coming OP, keep the faith.

Such a horrible run out. Feel for you especially considering discipline from rest of trip.

Great report though. Really enjoyed reading

Thanks all for the feedback. I know this stuff runs in cycles and look forward to the next opportunity. It helps to keep perspective - that in the end this is is a hobby and I wouldn't be playing it if I couldn't afford it, so despite the results, I still had a great time.

Now back to the real world until wsop.

would've been brutal if the board paired up on the turn. At first glance, i thought you had quads on the turn. That would be brutal (unless bbj).

but in the "finally got a set and still lost all my money" scenario, still sucks dude.

Good TR regardless, have a good flight
