That’s right! It’s that time again. The VPC is about to embark on its fifth Las Vegas journey. Third one to be documented on this lovely Las Vegas Lifestyle section. If you don’t know us click below to view previous trip reports.

VPC Went Vegas 2009 (Dutch);
VPC Went Vegas 2010 (Dutch);
VPC Went Vegas 2012 (English);
VPC Went Vegas 2014 (English);

All caught up? Good. Vamos!

VPC Goes Vegas 2016; The Intro.

Do you ever feel like poker ‘owes’ you a result? Poker is a hobby that lingers in the back of my mind on a daily basis. However, it’s not uncommon for me to not play a single hand for like a three month period. In the beginning of 2015 I bought Chris Moorman’s strategy book to see what this boss’s thought process looked like. Although I most definitely recommend the book I got till about halfway before I thought; ‘You know what, Chris; go f*ck yourself. My bankroll basically never outgrew the money I spend on poker books / training videos and if this ridiculous game of cards want any more of my time and energy it better present me with a decent result first’. Makes sense, right?

That masterplan lacked one detail; in order to get results one needs to play. That didn’t happen until a lovely Saturday in June. VPC member Fruithof was visiting from his current residence Aruba. After some serious daytime drinking we ended up at a poker tournament in our local bar. I can’t remember much accept at one point there was no one left to play with; I had all the chips. The score wasn’t big (~$ 500) but enough to get the poker blood flowing again. As luck would have it the very next Wednesday a newly formed monthly cash game started and I went on a tear up in that game. Add a few small winning cash session in the local casino and before I knew it VPC Goes Vegas V flight & hotel money was put together by nothing else than poker winnings.

With the eight day Vegas trip booked and payed for there where a few months left on the calendar before I would need to start putting Vegas spending money aside. I decided to let the poker heater ride and boy it did. I binked the very first tournament out of the reopened gate and experienced what it is like to play poker when the miracle doesn’t happen for the other guy all the time. Instead of heading for the nearest freeway 30 seconds after getting KK in vs. AK I was actually stacking chips for a change. It was fun. The heater lasted about three months (7/8 poker nights) and in the end my estimated Vegas spending budget was well met. I never thought it would happen again but this entire trip is going to be payed for by poker.

Fun while it lasted

So, the trip then. No less than eight VPC members will be making their way to Vegas this February the 18th. We have eight nights booked at Excalibur. Most definitely a step down from last times Mirage but it’s not easy to find a good deal when you have to agree departing dates and trip length with eight people. We got a good deal on Excalibur and while I was a little hesitant about saying on that side of the Strip I get more excited about it as the trip gets closer. Last trip report I stated that Vegas seems to become a little smaller with every visit. With that in mind this change of scenery might not be that bad at all. Casino’s such as Mandalay Bay, MGM and NYNY definitely deserve more of our attention than we gave them over the past four trips.

Now, for the moment everyone has been waiting for. Is our beloved – MOAR - Fratie part of the VPC for this 2016 trip? No. F*cking no. Unreal. I know. The little rascal had our hopes up big time when he mentioned getting back a small fortune from the IRS. However; Fratie = Fratie. He f*cks things up. He probably miss clicked a few buttons and at the end of the day Fratie owed the IRS or something along those lines. So, like 2014 you guys are going to have to manage with the ‘Meanwhile in the Netherlands’ series at the end of every days report. I do have some very good Fratie pics set aside so don’t unsubscribe just jet…

Not that you could be bothered after last paragraph but who is going to Vegas then?:

Tom “Iebus” Ebus.

Filthy Few (= Original 2009 Four and participant in all five trips) member, therefore on his fifth trip. This 32 year old goes on his fifth trip to Vegas as a bachelor. Closest he came to Vegas pussy however was inside the MGM Poker Room back when they had a lion cage. Iebus had a decent poker result recently going deep in a big live 6-max tourney. That has Iebus going to Vegas with a lot of confidence in his rusty poker game which will most likely cause him to lose his balls at the poker table against 85 year olds. Not to worry; there is always the iron glad - variance free - Duh Mat Roulette system to recuperate those potential loses.

Duh Mat Roulette

Peter “Bozzie” Leijsten.

Filthy Few member. Bozzie’s company doesn’t come cheap this trip. About $ 500,- to be exact. An amount that is also known as the ‘Bozzie No Balls Tax’. Bozzies lesser half decided life doesn’t start but ends at 40. After VPC went Vegas IV it was made unmistakably clear to our boy that VPC Goes Vegas V was out of the question. Bozzie couldn’t muster up the cojones to bring the trip up so he let the booking date slide by. When his girlfriend saw the trip was booked she found Bozzie crying himself to sleep and got remorse. Bozzie booked a week later leaving us with no less than two single rooms and an extra resort fee to deal with. A bargain for Bozzie’s company you say? No.

Bozzie before 40

Bozzie after 40

Dennis “Hugo” Reijnhout.

Hugo (38) is my brother in law and on his fifth Vegas trip. Not a member of the Filty Few though. Was short one trip on the Filty Few so he snuck in a quick Vegas trip last May. The bastard. Hugo took the ‘Blind Squirrel’ principal for a run last November. He made the final table of a ~ 450 entrants live 6-max event for a decent pay-day. Hugo will definitely be blasting some of that dough around Vegas with his attacking style of poker and roulette this February.

Hugo with our boy Fratie

Marco “Baars” Baars.

Our 37 year old bar owner and true degen. The kind that thinks a five hour black-jack session is an excellent idea after leaving the club at six in the morning. Baars usually maxes out all plastic in his wallet after about day four. For those wandering if the passport saga and ending of the last trip report were a joke. They really weren’t. And that about sums this hero up perfectly.

Day 5.

Marco ‘Damvic’ van Kampen.

The VPC Diva (31). Damvic wouldn’t be able to arrange a pair of tits in a strip joint but can most likely be found complaining about how sh*tty things have been arranged for him. Actually on his second Vegas trip as he joined VPC Went Vegas II in 2010, a trip that wasn’t documented on 2+2. Not much of a degen until The Village People slot machine comes in sight. Lost heads-up ‘spot the Hooker’ vs. Stevie Wonder back in 2010. Joins the trip for the ‘Clubbin’ part of it. Brought 5.8 kilo (~ 2.5 Lbs) of clothing on his last trip so we’ll see how many bouncers let our #Fashion icon slide by.

Baars, Damvic and our boy Fratie.

Damvic with our boy Fratie

Jelle ‘Jelzo’ van Hees.

VPC newbie (28). After analysing the 2014 trip we came to the conclusion that we needed reinforcements with regard to the Clubbin’ part of the trips. So, why not bring the guy along we need to pick up at the bottom of the terraces after almost every home game of our local football club? Seems like a plan. Jelzo knows his way around the poker table and goes on his second Vegas trip as he a made trip through the US and Vegas in 2014.

Jelzo with our boy Fratie

Willem ‘Verkus Wum’ Verheijen.

Who? No idea really. Friend of Jelzo. We test drove Verkus Wum during a short Belgium poker trip last November. It took us five minutes to realise Verkus Wum would be a great asset to VPC Goes Vegas V. It took us five hours to realise we – and Vegas security personnel for that matter - will have our hands full with this jolly lad.

Robert ‘Hamid’ Vallen.

Me (34). Filthy Few member and semi Pro Las Vegas History Copy Paster. If you’ve read the previous trip reports you more than enough about me.

Me, Iebus & Fratie

Mandatory 2+2 shoe pic…

By VPC standards sucking dicks is considered less gay then making plans for a Vegas trip. However, the ‘Planning is Gay’ crew are the first ones to look at me like a deer in headlights after touchdown. So here is what I intend to do in Vegas and rest assured pretty much everyone will follow suit due to lack of imagination.

We arrive Thursday night around 7PM. United Airlines slowrolled us by rescheduling our Houston – Vegas flight by ~ 3 hours after our booking. Dicks. We won’t be up and running till 9PM at its earliest. Probably broken in half by the c*nt of a trip not much exciting is to be expected on the first night. Maybe we’ll check out the High Roller Ferris Wheel but we’ll probably end up at the nearest poker / blackjack / roulette table and sip Corona’s till we can’t keep our eyes open.

I will most definitely be playing the Orleans Friday Night tourney. Believe it or not but we kind of flew in early for this one. Normally we go Friday - arriving late - till Friday - leaving early - which leaves no room to play this tourney. Also, I’ve never been to ‘the place you go to die ‘ aka Orleans. How is that even possible? I’ll probably show up early to squeeze in a few hours of Omaha Hi / Lo and most likely smack some bowling balls around after the tourney.

If I’m up early Saturday I’ll probably jump into the Aria daily at 11AM. If I don’t make that one Binions 1PM tournament is the most likely candidate for providing the afternoon entertainment. Saturday evening is reserved for some serous Clubbin’. Most of us got VIP tickets to see DJ Chuckie play at Hakkasan. With the friendly ~ $ 20,- beer rates at Hakkasan the biggest challenge will be showing up at the club just drunk enough to still be allowed in after our SLHRPP (Strong Liquor Hotel Room Pre Party).

I’ll probably f*ck off most of Sunday feeling hungover. No real plans except for the 7AM HORSE tourney at Orleans. I've never played another form than Hold’em live and that needs to change. Monday is my Casino Crawl day. Mission is to drink and gamble at every Strip casino. Always a challenge. Tuesday we’ll do some Downtown Outlet shopping and Downtown poker / gambling afterwards.

Wednesday morning / early afternoon are reserved for Champions League fixture PSV - Atletico Madrid. Gunstore, Indoor Skydive and Las Vegas Cue Club are valid options for the afternoon. A group dinner and visiting good old Britney Spears seem like a plan for the night. Thursday is our last full day. No ideas really. Probably an Aria daily and comedy club in the evening. Power drinking after that, for sure. Friday we head back. We wisely took an afternoon flight as we don’t want to experience another monster hungover flight like last time.

So that’s it. The party will start Wednesday the 17th when we make our way towards Amsterdam. We have an early flight on Thursday so we booked rooms at Schiphol Airport. I will unlock my Twitter handle then so you can follow the journey through @Broddelwerk. I will make the Trip Report after the trip as per usual and it will probably take a little while because I’m pretty busy at the moment.

It also has movie theaters and (reportedly) fixed limit Omaha hi.
