Hey Canoe, most places in that kind of setting rely on the view to keep crowds coming in and the food is subpar. However, TOTW food has always been consistently excellent. And, they are one of the few higher end places that offer a really nice lunch menu...view is still amazing of course at lunch (just different). I also normally don't leave room for dessert when I go out, but theirs is worth leaving a bit of room for. Really creative stuff usually and it's always good. I would definitely give it a try if you haven't been.

listing fast food joints like chipotle and in-n-out is ******ed. this is about restaurants that are vegas-specific (or have a handful of branches in other cities), not massive chains with hundreds if not thousands of locations nationwide.

didn't reach 20 in this list, just what i could think of off the top of my head:

big wong really delicious noodles and wontons and curry, etc, at incredibly cheap prices; pretty much every dish here is just $5.

tea station bubble teas and really down-home, authentic taiwanese food. service here is the nut low, however, so i usually get my stewed-pork-over-rice to go.

pho kim long not the best pho ever, but it's close to the strip, has a very large menu to choose from, and is open 24hrs--simply unbeatable at 5:30 am.

fukumimi ramen i've eaten at every single ramen joint in vegas (and a ton of em have sprouted up the last couple years) and fukumimi is by far #1; monta doesn't even come close. the ramen here is amazing, and the chicken karaage is outrageously great.

tofu hut most misleading restaurant name ever. this is the best all-you-can-eat korean bbq place in town: 16 bucks for as much high-quality meat as you can scarf down, and open pretty late too.

ichiza great food, great value, open late--everything i look for. the yellowtail tartare is out of this world.

marilyn's cafe (in the tuscany) on flamingo just east of the strip, this place has a midnight-to-5 am steak-and-eggs deal for $4.99. you're welcome.

mount everest india's cuisine my favorite indian restaurant in vegas. i love their naan, and everything is good and spicy.

dw bistro a fusion of caribbean and southwestern cuisines. every dish is flavor-packed, just the way i like it.

lemongrass (in the aria) while much of the food here is just ordinary, a few dishes are actually outstanding. the grilled pork neck and the spicy pork with basil are both terrific, and the not-listed-on-the-menu panang ribeye is a revelation.

echo & rig a relatively new steakhouse that opened up in summerlin just 4-5 months ago. the small plates are phenomenal, and the steaks are great without breaking the bank. and the restaurant space itself is gorgeous.

nobu i love this restaurant so much. i've eaten here more times than at any other high-end place in town, probably 15-20 times. i've brought friends, relatives, dates, and everyone has universally loved it. so many of their signature dishes have been copied by so many other restaurants: the miso black cod, rock shrimp tempura, yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno, et al. though imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, the original is still the best.

I think its elite to include a pure FF chain but clearly it shouldn't be half the list.

Right accross the street form me, and there is little doubt in my mind that i would have wasted away to nothing long ago if it were not for marylins.

basic standard diner food, but they re open 24 hours a day and serve their whole menu for the whole time. Prices more in line with what you would expect off the strip, so you can pretty easily get away with 10 per person.. which you can barely do at McD's on the strip.

The name refuses to come to mind, but tuscany also has an OK casual mexican place as well.

if youre looking for inexpensive, b- food thats available most or all of the time, tuscany is pretty much your go to place.

I am from the Midwest and listed In N Out, CPK, and Panda Express. I realize that these are all larger chains, but they are also chains that are not located where I live. As a result I have only had them in Vegas and eat at them whenever I go to Vegas as I can not have them any other time. So even though a restaurant may not technically be a Vegas only spot someone may associate it with Vegas if they are from a part of the country where they chain is not located.

I'll give someone In 'n Out and maaaaaaybe Panda Express (satisfying for what it is, succeeds at its own level) but if you think CPK is anything other than pure garbage, you're eating wrong. CPK 10+ years ago- maybe. CPK now- nope. I assure you, the place has gotten terrible.

In the midwest US? really?

Ill grant you that in n out is a more regional chain.... but Panda and CPK are in every mall in america.

That's because you didn't ask for the secret panda meat stir fry. They are delicious.

I did believe CPK was not as good this past time or two, but chalked it up to one offs. Maybe I got lucky the first few times or was just so hungry or drunk enough that anything would have tasted great. I will most likely eat there again next time (usually stay at Mirage and it is easy), but if it is underwhelming I may just move on from it in the future.

I did a search of locations for both Panda and CPK on their websites and Panda has opened up a couple locations within a reasonable distance from where I live in the past few months, but one of them is at the airport in a terminal so that is unavailable unless traveling. On the other hand the closest CPK is 70 miles away and the 2nd closest is over 100 miles away.

Regardless, it appears that maybe my food choices in the past in Vegas may not have been that great. I will look into some of the places people are suggesting in this thread prior to my next trip and give some of them a shot.

I've never even been to twenty restaurants in Vegas, but a few off the top of my head that I wouldn't mind having on my list as to where I would have to eat exclusively. Well, one of them is on there for convenience.

Stripsteak
Wichcraft
La Salsa Cantina
Bacio
Shibuya (actually never been but wanted a teppenyaki on the list)
Denny's (for when those times when the other restaurants are closed)

I've been to one Panda Express where I live and it SUCKED!

Last edited by Doc T River; 01-15-2014 at 12:23 PM. Reason: Some would say since I eat at Denny's, I know when something sucks.

This is coming from someone who travels to Vegas about twice a year with friends, stays mid-strip, and needs to incorporate a food that goes well with heavy drinking and gambling.

1) The Tequilla Bar (Bally's): When your hammered and you need 10 tacos to take the edge off of things before passing out, this is the place to go. Location is a huge plus, as Bally's is one of the best price/value/location places to stay for a guys trip to Vegas.

2) Earl of Sammich (PH): Best quick sandwich you can mid-strip. I'd eat here whether I was drinking or not. Very solid choice when you want to get back to gambling quickly.

3) The pizza place in NY-NY: I don't know the name of this place, but it has a deal where you get a slice and a Busch Light for like $6. Both the pizza and the beer are underwhelming, but Busch Light and crappy pizza are what I grew up on back in college, so this always takes me back. Added bonus because I like to gamble at NY-NY. I like the feel of that place.

4 & 5) Five Fifty Pizza and Lemongrass (Aria): I like to play poker at the Aria, so I'd need these two places for quick food options during a grind session.

6) Blondies (PH): I have to have a sports bar on the list to watch games and hang out for when the groups bankroll has taken a beating. I enjoy playing the pits at PH, which makes Blondies probably the best options for a nearby sports bar.

7) Todd English Pub (Aria): The food is decent, but the bigger draw is the free beer if you can knock down a pint in 8 seconds. It's just so much fun to get the college gang together and see who can still get it done.

8) Wolfgang Puck (Crystals): When I bring the Wife to Vegas, we like to stay at Aria. My wife isn't into the exotic fine dining experience, and this place is a good blend of basic food, but has some more elaborately prepared options to go with it.

9, 10, 11) Prime, CUT, & Jean Georges's: I have to be able to get some good steak. I haven't decided my favorite steak place in Vegas, so I'll throw three on my list to keep my options open.

12) Holsteins (Cosmo): A good burger place is a requirement, too. This place is the current champ.

13 & 14) Subway & McD's: Sad choices I know, but sometimes you just need something quick and cheap.

I'll stop my list there. For the amount of time I'm in Vegas, I could easily get by with those picks. I would have to add something from downtown because I always play there a bit, but nothing jumps out as being memorable...maybe because I never remember much of anything by the time my group gets downtown.

The one on East Twain? Cool. I tried to google their address, and the web site said they had closed. Glad to hear they are still kicking.

Meh, I'll play anyway, won't be 20, though. I'm assuming it would be a mix of hitting the usual spots + occasionally having friends along that might be trying stuff for the first time + random odd-hours stuff

Casual
1. Bachi Burger
2. Komex
3. Noodle Asia
4. Grand Lux
5. Egg and I
6. Otto Enoteca (actually Enoteca San Marco, I haven't been after it changed to Otto
7. Lola's
8. Excal Knight Show (you know, for the kids)
9. Secret Pizza
10. In-N-Out

Buffet
1. Wicked Spoon
2. MOzen Bistro

Fine
1. Jaleo
2. e by Jose Andres
3. L'Atelier
4. Delmonico

Haven't been to Picasso and many of the other steakhouses, so they're not on the list for now. I wanted to love Bartolotta, but the tasting menu we got was terrible value, imo.

Never eaten anywhere in Chinatown, either
