Hi guys,

To be honest it’s not my first trip to Las Vegas. I was there during the World Cup in 1994 but I was just a kid so it was a different kind of trip. My best memory is when I was playing a slot machine on some casino and a sheriff with two big guns on his waist asked me to leave. I thought that was cool because to me it was like a scene from a movie. In my country cops didn’t carry huge guns like that and also they didn’t give a **** about kids playing slots.

I heard Las Vegas has seen some changes in 20 years so I believe it’s time to re-evaluate. I think the only reason I haven’t been there since is the travel which sucks. Now it’s not so bad because I first travel with my GF to NYC for a few days and then fly to Vegas. Btw GF is not coming to LV so it’s not problem!

I think this time of the year is miserable in Finland. It’s cold and rainy and altogether ****ty. It’s so bad that now even the polar bears are shooting themselves lol. So I can't wait to see some sunlight and feel the warm breeze!

I’m staying at New York, New York from Nov 5th until Nov 21st I think. I don’t know much about this hotel or its surroundings but it seemed alright.

My plan is to play lots of pokers and also drink a bit and have a good time and see cool things and meet cool people too. Hopefully I will meet some 2+2’ers too.

I would like to play 100% PLO but I don’t know how it runs there. I must look into this but I can also play a little bit NLHE so it’s not a problem. I tried to find this Bravo app everyone’s talking about but sadly I couldn’t find it from my Google Play Store. I don’t know if someone can help with this? It would be nice to find some 2/5 or 5/10 Omaha.

Sorry guys I opened this so soon. Just too excited! Now I will get more information from this forum.

Pics are coming!

Take care,

Mike

I just searched Bravo Poker in the google play store and it is the first app that shows up.

Looking forward to the TR. Good Luck!

Venetian and Aria are generally running a 1-2 and 1-3 PLO especially at busier hours, both play pretty large from what I have seen.

Just a heads up for you OP. In Vegas right now according to Bravo, which includes most or all significant poker rooms in Vegas, there is only 1 PLO game happening. 1/2 at the Aria.

Venetian and Orleans have hi/lo PLO $4-8 and sometimes $8-16 limit tables that happen most of the time.

Thanks, I was expecting something like that so I'm ready to step up my NLHE game. It's funny though that on my local tiny casino we have three times more PLO tables running than whole Vegas.

It's weird that I can't find that Bravopoker app. Maybe it's a regional thing, idk. I tried to type it in every way so it's not about that.

I'm probably also going to play Venetian tournaments. I see they have nice tournaments, I think I will play atleast this one:

Friday November 7th 16 $1100 NL Day 1A

It's not PLO, it's Limit Omaha 8.

Use the bravopokerlive.com website if you can't get the app.

I typed both PLO and limit in error. Yes it should only say limit. Thanks for that.

You could try sending an email to the Bravo support
support@genesisgaming.com
They might be able to provide a link you could download the .apk file from and install it outside of the play store

I am from Northwestern Europe and I will be in Vegas during that period. You will need to use the website for Bravo poker as it is restricted by location.

I find Omaha is not spread in all that many places in Vegas. I doubt where it is spread would be as fishy as the games in Europe can be.

This is a new thing. I used BravoPoker on my last trip to LV and I now can't download it from the App Store. It seems they have restricted it to just the US store. Which is irritating.

Thanks all for your help. I'm not sure how that Bravo restriction works. Will it work when I'm there? Or if I buy a US prepaid thing for my phone? Anyway, it's not a huge deal as the web site seems to work ok.

A little change to the plan. I will be there on 6th instead of 5th and will be staying at Bally's instead of NYNY at least for the first week.

I have been reading TR's for two days now and can't wait to get there

My plan is to play these tournaments if not a huge hangover:

Deepstack Extravaganza @ Venetian

Friday, Nov 7, 2014 Event #16 - Day 1A - No Limit Hold'em $1,100

Monday, Nov 10, 2014 Event #23 - Omaha 8 / Stud 8 $300

Sunday, Nov 23, 2014 Event #48 - PLO $300

WSOP Circuit @ Planet Hollywood

Thursday, Nov 13, 2014 Event #1 - Day 1A - No Limit Hold'em $365

Monday, Nov 17, 2014 Event #5 - Pot Limit Omaha $365

Will also definitely go to a shooting range because 'MURICA! I haven't held a gun since my army time 10 years ago.

Better location anyway, imo, as far as getting to other places you want to go.

Good to hear! Valmet's share has been really good to me

Little imgur training before the real action.

Roll on the table. I think US dollars are pretty cool but for a drunk guy I like the colors of Euros. In before tipping with them hundos.

This is the scene I'm leaving. My German friend asked me how can Finnish people be at the same time the happiest and the most suicidal people in the world. I don't know about the happy part but I think it's because everyone is doing "ok" because of the socialism as you would call it. The suicide part has to be because of heavy drinking and the fact that we have this kind of weather 3/4 of the year. This photo is taken at 4pm and it's not even the darkest period of the year.

See you tomorrow Vegas!

I have three very random questions:

1) Can I buy a SIM card for my tablet for three weeks which allows me to use the internet as much as I like? If so where should I buy it? I'm asking because I'm reading that wifi's are not so good in there.

2) Can I tip the casino waitress with $1 chips or should I always carry singles?

3) Is there a good post about tipping in general? I come from a no tipping culture so I really don't know how much to tip for example a cab driver.

Thanks!

Tipping with chips is the norm, only time you might use notes is if your in a tourney.

I'm from GB, I just generally tip around 15% for meals, taxis, I think this is ok, someone else prob have more info though

Yeah. Tipping chips at about a dollar per drink is cool. 15% on larger checks for meals is fine.

I wouldn't bother with a SIM card. Just call your cellular provider and get an international data plan for a month.

Good luck and be safe.

I think this is a good overall guide:

http://www.vegas.com/traveltips/tips-on-tipping/

If it's TL;DR just look at the suggested tip. More or less I follow that. It doesn't talk about cocktail waitresses. Also in Vegas the hotel bell guys flag down cabs for you - I usually give $2-3 for that even though it's probably the most elementary job.

Tipping cocktail waitresses $1 chips or singles are fine. You can even ask for change if you have bigger bills. Cocktail service can be a bit slow at times and it can be helpful to tip a few bucks more here and there. They'll appreciate it and likely provide better/faster service.

Most people tip nothing at all. I tip $1 and they seem overjoyed with it.

Also don't forget to tip the dealer on won pots. $1 for most pots, no tip generally if the pot is < $10, and a suckout or quads, etc on a huge pot, tip according to your giddiness.

I tipped a lady at the cashiers desk $1 in the Imperial Palace (yes, I know) when I accessed my safe deposit box.

She was so effusive in her thanks "For me? Why thank you" that I couldn't figure out whether
  • She was genuinely delighted
  • She was being sarcastic
  • I had accidentally tipped her with a higher denomination bill

Anyway good luck OP. Looking forward to updates.

Enjoying my pre-fly Irish Coffee and watching the first snow falling. I'm not a big fan of snow so it's perfect time to leave.

Unfortunately our trip to NY got cancelled because my GF had a tragedy in her family so I'm flying solo HEL-NY-LV.

Epic view from the plane.

News are nowadays pretty much like this because no one knows what that crazy ass Putin is doing. Yeah, we are their neighbours.

I am surprised as an English speaker/reader that I can read the Helsinki Times without any problem.

Haha, well noticed. / edit. actually it says 6-12 November. It's not a daily paper.

AtomicLiquors, this paper is for tourists and foreigners living in Helsinki. It's quit a new paper.

Finally in Vegas! Didn't sleep a second during the 17 hr trip so I'm pretty tired now and probably won't be playing tonight.

Good beat: my first flight was late so they put me in business class so that I can run right away to the gate. I managed to do the immigration, security check and 1/2 mile run in half an hour although the immigration guy gave me a hard time. He questioned if I was a pro player and actually working instead of spending a holiday here. Also he asked me three times if I had more than 10k with me and asked me to swear I don't. It was my own fault though because I had a Pokerstars hoodie on. This guy also said he would bet his paycheck that I also have a poker related t-shirt underneath. He lost that bet but I didn't collect.

Bad beat: didn't have my business class shoes on. I took the shďttiest shoes I have so I can just throw them away here and buy a new pair of sneakers. Same deal with the PS hoodie, lol.

Have to say I'm really happy with my Bally's room. Only thing that could be better is the view.

Was too sleepy to play pokers so played VP instead.

After 5 greyhounds and 2 coronas took out 1.2k. Started with $40 so very nice first session altough had to degen away $500 cos you can never stop at the top.

Went to Tequila Bar and had fish tacos with some Sam Adams. Tacos were pretty meh so probably not gonna eat there often.

I also saw that Maya who gave me the room was still at the reception so went there and gave her $10. She was happy.
