What about ugly carpet so you keep your eyes pointed at the tables and slots?

Oxygen pumped in through the vents?

So your examples just dispelled the myth?

BTW, you could kind of see out the front door towards the strip from the Linq poker room IIRC.

Not a huge deal, but it's just kind of gross if you're not a smoker.

Slightly off topic with my response, but even a significant number of smokers find this gross.

While I agree with the sentiments posted in this thread, I'd say in general most people don't. Hotel occupancy rate has been rising every year since 2012. As long as that trend continues, so will the other trends, such as resort fees, parking fees, table odds, etc.

You certainly could from the poker room at Bill's Gambling Hall, formerly the Barbary Coast..

Just curious, not doubting,.... when did Barbary Coast/Bills have a poker room ?

(I liked Barbary Coast for cheap blackjack , good table service, cheap food, and nice open design. When Drais opened there, the interior scenery improved. Have not been there is years.... Just drive past occasionally now, is that named the Cromwell currently?)

Exactly the idea that carpets are like that to keep your eyes away from the floor and looking at the gaming I think is inaccurate.

I also love myth about oxygen being pumped in, it’s hilarious. As others have stated the air quality in casinos is actually quite bad. You don’t need to pump in oxygen the drug of gambling is what keeps people energized.

The open design led to some problems, like people grabbing chips and running off.

I'm guessing that's why most casinos don't have such open space. The exceptions - IIRC O'Sheas used to run their 0.5/1 game close enough that people could rail from the sidewalk - are just that, exceptions.

Bill's (after Barbary Coast, before Cromwell) had the lowest stakes NLHE on the strip at one point. I think .5/1? Also I recall $30 or $50 tournaments, daily. I may have wandered thru the Barbary Coast in the 90's, but I don't specifically recall ever gambling there. In the 2000's, I stayed and gambled at Bill's fairly regularly, and even had my Bachelor Party weekend there. Good times!

Yep, Bills was the last LV Strip poker room to have 0.50/1.00NL.

Bills and O'Sheas(the original one, not the joke one that exists today) both had super cheap daily tournaments that ran almost non-stop every 3-4 hours..usually filled with drunken frat boys..

I remember at one point O'sheas had poker tables sticking out on the side walk right? Back during the poker boom.

I dont recall it being on the side walk but it was damn close to being outside. I think they touted it as Strip Poker if I remember correctly.

1) Not saying at Caesars. I'm thinking the Bellagio or the Wynn.

2) I'm going change the stakes I play. I used to enjoy playing 1/2 back in 2010 when I first started because the money actually meant a lot to me. I think I need to start playing 5/10 to actually have the money on the table mean something to me again. I figure this could make a big difference.

3) Will dabble with some PLO!
#1 best possible way to improve a Vegas vacation is to not stay at Caesars

And I do remember 'Poker on the Strip' being more Bills than O'Sheas, but it could have been both, for a time.

Back when I was grinding those $40 O' Sheas tourneys, every 3 hours it was definitely inside...not right near outside like Bills was..

If you say so. Every time I went in there only 1 table was going. It seemed like the list never moved either.

I don’t think tables were on the sidewalk, which would probably be a violation of gaming regulations, but O’Sheas was open towards the Strip and poker tables were right next to the rail.

Also beer pong and Burger King right next to it, good times..

I played there and the tables were like 6" inside the door off the sidewalk.

The past 5 years or so I find myself going more and more off strip for everything outside of poker (food, lodging). Being nickeled and dimed with fees by casinos on the strip and gouged for meals is a thing of the past. 80% of my meals are eaten off the strip, wheather it be China Town, Town Square or a steak at Morton’s. I find the service and quality of food better.
I am heading down in a few weeks. What are your "go to" places to eat off strip?

Fairly certain, You can see the LVB side walk from the Flamingo poker room. But that's thru doors not windows.

I've been invited to go the weekend before Halloween. It's a fun time to be there but I can't talk myself into pulling the trigger. I guess I will wait for the annual Spring trip. Hopefully I'll have the hunger back by then.

I took a quick trip to Vegas yesterday and I totally forgot how sad Mandalay Bay poker room is run.

First off it’s a beautiful room. Too bad I forgot how it’s run like a soup nazi

1) no black chips play at 1-2
2) dealer bank is a bank out only not in. Dealer was low on $1 chips i offered to swap since I had a lot. Dealer says sorry can’t do that it’s a gaming violation...
3) I can’t sit backwards in a chair.. it’s a liability. Floor was a complete dick about it
4) tourist was talking to a local about high hand promo in chopping Sb vs B.B. and while dealer was shuffling, dealer says you can’t talk about that.
5) two foreigners who had no idea how to play were talking about basics of the game and not during a hand dealer says only English. No way they were talking strat but just basics.
6) a newbie player was confused about utg straddling and btn straddling and when it was his turn. Different dealer was getting upset for not acting in time.

Never was really upset but they sure made me not want to come back and play. This room feels like it’s gonna die soon

I always thought Mandalay Bay poker should be a lot better considering the nice property.

MGM should have closed Mandalay Bay's poker room instead of the Luxor..the Luxor was of course much smaller and not as nice, but the employees always seemed friendly, and the room had a nice vibe..
