Great TR. Really love that up to here it had already happened. Maybe now that you are caught up you can do weekly updates?

You seem very level headed. Be sure and stay that way and don't get over confident. Variance can be a beast.

I second the nomination for weekly updates. Great results and a nice recap. Interesting blue collar backstory (Trooper-like) with vlogger like results (non-Trooper-like). Also a good reminder of how tough poker is, especially mentally. OP was up $30k in half a year and had to take a month off.

Was alcohol involved? Not judging, just wondering if that could be a factor in the late-night meltdown.

It was not. They make you pay for alcohol there. I REFUSE!

Re: I moved to Vegas seven months ago to play poker

Love the thread.

One comment about the quitting part above. Assuming your roll is OK with the swings, the spot was either a good one or not. If you were a favorite 3 handed, you were genius to stay and try to clean them out. If it wasn't a good winning situation, it was a mistake to stay win or loose. Looking at it as "I could have quit even" should have no bearing on your thinking.

Knowing this is still in the past, looking forward to more.

October in Venice

The Venetian is running a promo for October where they give away thousands every hour for high hands. I'm planning to grind 2/5 there all month and log the results here.

Ok heading out now to get this kicked off.

Thanks for the heads up!

Would not have known about it otherwise. Going to be in Vegas in a few weeks.

Re: October in Venice

10/1

Today I was burned to ashes and reborn as a beautiful Phoenix.

Bought in for 500 at 2/5. Here's the rundown.

* I open pocket 4's first in from the cutoff to $15. The BB 3bets to $45. I call. The flop comes J 9 7. We both check. Turn is another 7. He bets $45. I call. River is a Q. He bets $100 and I fold.

* I open 8h6h to $20 from mid position. I get a caller behind me and one of the blinds calls. Flop is K J 4 with two hearts. Check, I bet $40, player behind me calls, blind folds. The turn is a 6 giving me a pair to go with the flush draw. The villain has about $200 left and there's around $140 in the pot. I ship it in for maximum fold equity. He calls with KJ for flopped top two pair and he wins.

* I add $400 to my stack, in for $900 now

* I win about $125 in a pot from the BB against a button straddler. Everyone folds and I limp with KTo. The button raises his option to $35 and I call. I flop top pair and check/call a bet. The turn brings the 3rd club (I have no club). It goes check check. The river brings the 4th club. I check, he bets $65, I call and win.

* I get AK and double some dude up who has around $400. We both flop top pair and he hits a 3-outer on the turn with his AT to make two pair. He check/raises me on the turn after I bet $130 and I called him. He had just lost a big pot and was visibly upset before this hand.

* This leaves me with around $250. I add $100 more and try to get focused again before adding another $200. Im in for a total of $1200 now and sitting on around $500.

* My stack dwindles a bit and then I go broke in a hand with J9hh. I flop top pair plus a flush draw and get it in on the flop against AJ. After that hand I add $500 more, in for $1700 total now. Getting ugly.

* I flop a set of nines and win about $100

* I finally double up in my biggest pot of the night. A guy raises from early position and I flat with QJcc. It goes 4-way to a flop of T 9 3. The raiser bets $35, I call, another calls. Turn is a 2 bringing the second club. The raiser bets $40, I call, the other player folds. The river is the K of clubs, giving me the 2nd nut flush. He checks, I bet $100, and he tanks and shoves for around $400. I make the call and he was pulling the ol' dry ace bluff.

* I'm sitting on $1100 now so stuck $600

* I open KJ from late position and both blinds call. I flop trip kings but one of the blinds has KQ and only $200 so I double him up.

* I isolate two limpers with 7s5s. One caller. The flop comes 8 6 2 with two hearts, one spade. He checks, I check. The turn is the 9d giving me the 2nd nut straight. He leads now for $30, I raise to $100, he calls. The river pairs the 2. He leads again, this time for $100. I call and he shows a busted heart draw.

* I open JcTc from the button and call a 3bet from the BB. I flop an open ender and call his flop bet. The turn is a beautiful Q giving me the nuts. He bets $50, I raise to $200, he calls. The river is a K and he checks. I bet $350 and he folds.

* Im up to a stack of $1350 now. Still stuck $350.

* I make quad sixes and get on the high hand board. Just gotta sweat it for 55 minutes. I don't have much hope since all the other hours have been won by straight flushes. I take a break and go eat and when I come back Im still high on the board with 15 minutes left in the hour. The sweat is real but it somehow comes through and I win $1000 of promo money for the high hand.

* I win a few more small pots. When the high hand money makes it into my stack, I'm sitting on over $2400. I decide its time to call it a session.

Time played: 5.5 hours
Results: +735

Would you say that you have a wide range? Is that an important part of your strategy? Or is it a typical range that takes into consideration position and the opponents?

I dont think its all that wide. Im very tight in early position (will fold AQ some) and get looser as I move towards the button. I dont have static rules for starting hands though so if I feel like going for something then I probably will.

Frustrating session. Extremely card dead in an action game and the few hands I get are no good. QQ<AA and KK<AA. Back at it tomorrow.

I don’t want to HJ the thread but turn I would check/call or bet small.

He is never folding a K or a good J, actually most of those players will never fold any J.

You save money if you don’t improve the river and he will be committed when you hit.

Also checking the turn will induce some bluffs with all those straight draws or flush draws he might hold.

Venetian promo is 1 winner each hour for the $1k. Unless more than one person has the same hand. It’s almost the same as when it was two $500 winners each hour. They just took that idea and decided to have fewer winners with bigger prizes for the winners.

I don't mod here, so no inside info. Really enjoy your thread. Did they ask you to move to House of Blogs? If so, I'm guessing a friendly mod (who has privileges in this forum) could copy and/or move this whole thread into your HoB thread.

This did not happen. I am not sure where you are getting this idea from. You started a new thread "October in Venice" about the Venetian tournament and all that happened is that it was merged with this thread.

I also enjoy your thread and would never shut you down.
