Can't fault you for the path you chose. I think it's smart to get a guaranteed income while playing on the side to build up that bankroll. That's what I do, and although sometimes I wish I grinded poker full time when I see these donks in my 2/5 and 5/5 games, knowing you got that job and the feeling it gives you to play stress free and not worry about busting...priceless.

The stress free & not be scared $ is so key.

Literally became a better player when I got promoted @ work just b/c I started having more $. Sometimes you just need to be able to toss out a $200 bet and not care about what the $ means in the real world.

I'm working a good job and building a poker roll now and I feel very comfortable at the tables knowing I have an overall bankroll which is constantly replenishing every Thursday morning! Me personally, I need to make x amount of money from poker saved up and x sized poker operating before I quit.. and I'm 26 no kids no wife and live in the southeast where we have to travel for hours for casino or find shady underground games!

I didn't get any hours in last night. A friend of mine was playing a show at hard rock hotel, so i attended that. Had a couple drinks and i have a long standing rule of no poker after drinking. I will be putting in 6-10 hours tonight.

Played a decent session on Saturday. Logged 8 hours and finished up 280. Overall I was pretty satisfied with my play. There were a few spots where I might have been able to pick up a few pots if I had put in a big bluff but I try not to make it a habit of taking tourists off strong aces on semi scary boards. Just doesn't seem to work enough to be profitable in the long run.

I don't really have any interesting hands to share. I did mange to get stacked within the first 20 minutes of being there when I got it in with bottom set vs AKss on a 4s10sKh board. He binked turn and I whiffed the river. For a good for hours after that I would pick up a couple small pots here and there until I picked up a beautiful spot with KK vs QQ on a 9 hi board and got it in for a 400 pot. I had opened to 10 from ep got called by the button and the bb made it 45. I smoothed and the button folded. Flop was 9 hi with a spade draw. He lead for 70 I shipped he called I held. Called it a day a hour or so later.

I'll be playing at either venetian or aria tonight, not quite sure which yet. I'm off at 6 hope to be at the casino by 7.

Got a short session in last night aria. Only played about 2 hours and finished up 140. Played one hand really bad and cost myself about 180. I know my mistakes in the hand so I'm not gonna post it. However I did run into a weird spot where a guy sitting on a 150 stack opened to 34 from utg +1 folded to me in the bb and I look down at JJ. He had done tho silly raise size earlier and showed 72 afterwards. I didn't think he was doing something like that again and felt his range was 88-qq and ak aq. I didn't think he would do that big sizing with AA or KK seeing how you would think he would want some action. So with the range I gave him and me having JJ I just put him all in. He calls with KK and holds. Wouldn't mind hearing opinions on that hand from or resident LVL guys. I got tomorrow off so I'm going to try and put in some decent hours tonight assuming the games are good. Will update with results

On the JJ hand... couldn't you have re-raised and found the same info?

Min raise and fold to a shove sounds spewy. He only started with 150 so 150-35 =125-35= 90 more. So I'd then be at 90 to win 210. Seems bad to fold getting those odds when he still proly ships 1010 or AK. You feel different?

wouldve def taken my time and try and talk/get a read before making a decision (not saying you didnt of course), call (to reevaluate)/fold/jam all seem close to me tho, probably wouldnt be folding too often pre

I did. Like I said I didn't think he would have done it with AA or KK which led to my decision. If I had thought he would do that with those hands I wouldn't have shipped it. I was wrong obviously. Bad read on my part about his range.

Hmmm... in general, I don't like jamming pre-flop w/ JJ (unless villain has small stack) because you are usually not getting called by worse.

Like there are def. spots where I would jam pre with JJ... but the idea is to want the guy to fold.

Like, say we re-raised to 100.... he either has it...and shoves rest for $50 more... or he folds right? So maybe we save $50 here?

Are you saying that if we raise to a 100 were folding for the 50 more once there is 250 in the pot? I can fully agree with just calling or maybe just pitching our hand but can't get behind the raise to a 100 then fold for 50 more getting 5-1

Like, I wasn't there... so it really depends on your read of the guy.

However, in general.....

1) I would prefer to call or fold over raise

2) If you decide to raise, raise $100 is preferable than all-in
-Why? Because the way I read it, if he calls that $100/re-raises all-in you are WAAAY behind
-Basically, when you shove with JJ, you are almost never getting called by worse

3) I feel it's very iffy to assume dude doesn't have it b/c he showed BS bluff before
-People do things like that on purpose to set-up bigger plays

4) This is why I am a big fan of long sessions
-I really don't care about losing/folding the $100 b/c I know I will make it back as long as I stick it out at the table
-Before you think about what you will make if you win, remind yourself that not all your $ needs to be made in one hand
-This reduces your volatility, and actually allows you to play higher stake games without unnecessary BR swings

5) The fold actually sets-up other plays
-Ie) now the table thinks you can be pushed around
-You wait for his over-aggression and smack them for a 300BB pot
-You just need one hand, to make your night

I think I have lost more $ with JJs than any other hand..... so I am probably giving out horrible advice here.

Btw, if we decrease our re-raise to say... $85.... I think we can still get the same info?

Trying this thing Limon was talking about... he was saying decreasing the size of your bet to the minimum needed to get someone to fold (or to find out info)... small edges to get more incremental win rate. .... so the "decrease size of re-raise" has been something that's bugging me lately and that's probably why I focused on it so much.

Sorry man, this is seriously ******ed. You can't fold for $50 getting 5:1. Even if he shows you his AA you still have to call as you're only a 4:1 dog.

Besides, he could shove with AK.
