Moving up is just going to take to long. so I have applied for a few different jobs out here with the intentions of working during the week and putting in 16-24 hours a week at night at weekends.

When I lived in California my wife worked 2pm-8pm part time this allowed her ample time with the kids. Here she is gone 8am-530pm m-f thus she isn't with them that often during the week and I can tell this is having a toll on her. Me getting a job would allow her to go back to part time and be with the kids more. And with the cost of living out here + money ill make from still playing 3+ sessions a week should allow me to save up a roll to play 2,5+ a lot quicker then grinding 1,2 is going to. With playing 5,10 as my regular game as the main goal I might as well take the path that going to get there the quickest.

So until I get a job (Ive applied at 10+ places already. most sales) I will be playing only online. Small tourneys and what not. I have a personal life roll of about 4kish and would rather make sure all the bills are paid until I start a job then play poker with it. A downswing would put me is a bad situation and I'd rather not chance that with the family and all. If anyone would like me to keep the the thread updated each week with results and what not I will but daily updates won't be happening any more. This isn't a failure in my opinion just a speed bump to get over.

Final stats since March 1st

402 hours played
Total profit: $10,750
Hourly: $26.74

Any questions feel free to shoot.
And here's your problem. In 5 full months you managed to work only 402 hours at your full time job. You failed because you weren't serious enough about it. You failed because you were lazy. It's nobodies fault but your own.

I've been reading this thread all day and I kept seeing where you were playing 2 and 3 hour sessions and I was screaming on the inside. You're not a "professional." You never were. You were just some immature 20-something who doesn't wanna work a real job. Grow up. If you had put in the require time you would have succeeded.

And you have a wife and kids FFS! It's hard to even fathom the irresponsibility you have shown towards your "profession."

Everybody stroking your ego while you were failing is what led to your demise in the first place. You needed someone to put you in your place a long time ago. Instead, you were out playing 2 hour sessions and getting drunk and partying at clubs on "off days" while your kids were home in bed. This is not what a responsible husband and father does.

You sicken me to be quite honest.

Re: I moved to vegas to play poker blah blah blah follow me thread

I normally don't post in these blog thingy threads, but a couple of thoughts.

1. All the people (and mr. smith is just the most recent and worst) telling OP that he needs to do this and he needs to do that to provide for his family need to chill the **** out. Coming on the internet and monday-morning-quarterbacking this guys decisions about how he is going provide for his kids is is about as ignorant, low class, and inappropriate as you can get. Seriously, racial slurs are more appropriate.

Im not saying don't levy legitimate criticism. God knows there is plenty to be levied itt (u know what u did IMP). But if you can't make your point without bringing his kids into it, then you don't have a point worth making, and need to shut the hell up IMO.

2. Personally, i thought it was a good decision to stop and look for a job. If you are really making 10+bb/hr at 1/2, and four months later you are still playing 1/2, something is terribly, terribly wrong. Because any time youre playing 1/2 full time youre living on the edge. Read bo goldman's excellent post in LLNL "be more aggressive with your bankroll" .

My best friend is a sales rep for Verizon and loves it. If ATT offers comparable pay and bennies then you should be way better off, and able to continue to play 10-20 hours a week on the side with much less stress. GL!

I still love the old Eminem songs.

OP, best of luck with whatever you do, but if you do continue playing poker on the side, try to update the thread a little bit more often

Re: I moved to vegas to play poker blah blah blah follow me thread

*grunch*

So, serious question...if you made almost $27 an hour at 1/2 NLHE...then why weren't you willing to work 40 hr weeks and avoid the whole job scenario?

Thats $1080 a week before taxes....take home of like $650-$700 a week.

That's not too shabby ....actually it's pretty amazing at 1/2.

I am guessing if you had put in 1000 hrs instead of 400 and ran anywhere close to as well as you ran in 400 hrs....you would be rolled for 2/5 now and making a couple grand a week gross on average.

This ISN'T a "you were stupid and blew your chance and let your family down" post

I am simply curious why you couldn't get motivated to put the hours in when you were running so well.

It's been posted before. I had a few things that held me back. Number 1 being myself and my lack of taking things seriously at the time. The main reason I got a job was not poker related. It was something I did for my wife. She was very unhappy at here job to the point where I would have to argue with her to stop her from walking out. And even though I had a great win rate I was not about to try and support my family on my own by playing low limit nl.

All in all I got a bit caught up with vegas when I moved out. The shiny lights got to me, something that has worn off.

Re: I moved to vegas to play poker blah blah blah follow me thread

I'll read between the lines here and am probably stepping over the line... but [footinmouth.jpg]

The words from you wife's mouth in an argument was "If I have to pay all the bills, what do I need you for?"

And your not so subtle avatar changes since the thread first started reveals a lot. People do pay attention.

Best of luck getting back into poker and in your new job, working hard to be successful at both.

If you ask me how I know?.... been there, done that.

A lot of people don't realize what they have until it is gone. Here is hoping you hold onto what you have!!
