Re: I moved to vegas to play poker blah blah blah follow me thread

Ok, you're clearly an experienced enough player to get away from this spot. The question is, should u have gotten yourself in it to begin with. How can u have minimized losses while maximizing profits. Well, in a lot of cooler type situations you really can't (set over set). That's the nature of nl. Anyways, I would say your only real tool is to recall back to how he seemed when the flop hit. Especially at 1-2 your opponents don't know how to mask their tells. Again, I understand your line on the turn since u put him on a draw. There's nothing wrong with that bet. But before you design such a bet you tell urself if I get raised I'm going to shut down.if river didn't slow him down were you prepared to call a $100 bet?

Calling the turn and reevaluating riv isn't bad. Especially if you call fast and make it seem like his range isn't good. That way if he fires you can get away from it easier

To quote the infamous rounders, 'noble work you're doing'

But srsly, you'll be beating the 2-5 before you know it. The key is to not get over ambitious given so much is on the line. Seems like you know all of this though and do have the disipline to succeed. I wouldn't keep bluffing at 1-2 tho in unnecessary spots like the A7. It did work this time but when it doesn't there's nothing worse than losing to bad 1-2 players. Play it safe. It'll take less of a toll on you emotionally.

with no reads/past experience w/villain and that turn bet sizing you dont know what he thinks of you, if you bet larger there and he plays back you can fold easier because you have more of an idea what your hand looks like to him

Damn. Wish you hadn't posted results before I got here.

The hands you're beating OTT are KT, QT, KJ, QJ, JT, AhKh/AhQh/AhTh. There are a total of ~50 combos of these. The non-two pair hands have 8-17 outs to improve but if one of the ~20 scare cards come on the river you won't know which draw villain was on (assuming he was behind of course).

Hands hero is behind are KK, QQ, TT, AJ, and J9. There are a total of 40 combos of these hands. Hero has 4 outs against all but the least likely hands (KK and QQ).

To summarize there are more hands hero is beating than getting beaten by (however, villain's raise size is relatively small and feels more like a value raise than than a semi-bluff) but villain has more outs when behind than hero had when he is behind. Also, it'll be easier for villain to get away OTR if hero improves than the other way around.

Given all this a 3! is out of the question. Since hero is ahead ~1/2 the time (assuming villain is capable of semibluffing) folding is also out of the question. Therefore calling and reevaluating river is the best line.

Btw, after this hand it's obv villain is a nit and if a similar situation comes up again I'd be much more inclined to fold to the raise (and also to bluff him liberally lol).

Thanks for the input everyone. Much appreciated. I agree that bet sizing on the turn was to low and a bigger get would have made it easier to play after the raise. Once he raises my weiner bet though I just can't see folding on the turn. He can easily take the same line with all the hands mentioned above that I beat, and I feel just pitching top 2 in that type of board to a unknown raise is super exploitable.

Finished least nights session +7. yup 7$. But I was down 150 at one point so I'll take it. I only played for 4 hours per I might be getting sick thanks to my little one. I'm thinking about taking sundays and mondays off each week, ganges just seemed crappy both of those days.

I actually like the turn bet sizing, esp since you're OOP. 60%ish of pot is enough to get value from hands you're beating and doesn't commit you to the pot when you're behind and drawing thin. I'd only bet pot or more than pot if I'm willing to b/f (which is think is bad line). Bloating a pot when you're OOP on a super wet board (~1/2 of the potential river cards are scary for your hand) just seems silly.

I think you played the hand well and got lucky that villain wasn't good enough to vbet the river.

Re: I moved to vegas to play poker blah blah blah follow me thread

i dont like it because im always about balancing my range with my bet sizes so no one can exploit me (and i love getting max value out of my hands), but thats very unnecessary at this limit, a lower sizing there does have merits, its just not what i wouldve done

Last edited by thenorcaljew; 03-12-2012 at 07:22 PM. Reason: range = bluffs too obv

Nice thread so far op.
Just a suggestion. Use spell check on your Iphone.
I know you're doing most of these posts quickly(while you're playing) and sort of twitter style but some of your posts make it seem that English isn't your first language.

Lol, hilarious. English is my only language so that's pretty funny. I use swipe on my android phone and tbh it sucks and since all my posts are from my phone I don't notice mistypes per it being a pain to reread posts before they get posted. I'll take more time from here on out though to please the masses.
