Ive only played 2 sessions of 2,5 since i got here. after seeing how soft the game was last friday im going to start taking more shots. Ill be short buying for 300

That lets your opponents do the same, no?

It doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with shortstacking when taking shots, depending on what kind of game it is. If it's at the Wynn and half the stacks are 1k to 2k, that may not be the best game to take a shot in. If it's at the WSOP and most stacks are 200, that's a different story.

Not quite. Ive gotten a couple k worth of stuff sold on ebay but my wife has been really busy so we havent been able to get everything listed. No worries though, it will get listed and ive been crushing live pokers so its all good

you know what, they do have a really good point, im the same way as chris though i love 100+bb at all times to maximize deepstack edges, but short stacking can be very +ev, esp if no one adjusts to short stacks at the tables

Doesn't shortstacking increase short term variance since you get in more marginal situations? It's never a bad thing to ease into things as you move up though. Instead of short stacking you could play 1/2 or 1/3 during the week then 2/5 on Friday/Saturday during the fishier games. That way you have a little more stability, but you have a chance at a huge upswing on the weekends. All it takes is one upswing to move up for good.

indeed... 500 is somewhat SHORT for most 2/5 here.

I prefer the deeper 200bb stack myself, but beggars can't be choosers and 500 is okay if you play accordingly.

The only reason to buy in short is if you are outmatched at the table. If you have difficulty folding TPTK and overpairs, buy in short. If however you know how to fold, then play as deep as possible so those rare nut hands actually pay off big. Most of the pots you win in NLHE are only about 30-50BB's on average, so as long as you can cover this you are making decent profit. It's those rare 300BB pots that we dream of.
