I'm trying to come up with something you can do in other cities that you can't do in Vegas. Nothing is coming to mind.

But I didn't ask "what can you do in other cities that you cannot do in Vegas?" As a courtesy to me and the rest of the forum, please answer the question I posed directly.

Go outside during the day time and not melt into a fleshy puddle?

For academics like myself, Las Vegas strikes me as a complete wasteland unless you specifically study gaming or hospitality. As far as I can tell, there are no liberal arts schools in the region, and only one research university (UNLV), and it isn't even the best public university in Nevada. It's hard to think of another major city where that's true.

Cost of living isn't really a factor, Vegas is one of the most expensive places to live now.

I've been here ~15 years and I prefer the options. You can get great Thai food from so many different places at any hour of the night. Sandwich at 4am? They got you.

Tinder hookups with tourists (so many 2am you ups and when I respond they're on their flight out of here)

etc.

Sounds like someone needs to turn that frown upside down .

Jokes aside, it is really more about who you are with. I love Vegas as a holiday destination as I am always with a group of friends or my spouse and we have a great time.

I think Vegas can feel lonely if you are not connected to friends and family locally.

Strictly as a location I think Vegas is a pretty fun city: live music, world renowned DJs, pro sports, casinos, live comedy, various other shows, and high quality restaurants.

If I lived in Vegas I would need a swimming pool and an AC in my house to survive the summer. I would also want to park my car in the garage to precool it prior to driving around.

I think if you setup your life properly it would be pretty good (AC office job and AC car and AC house). You pretty much just avoid being outside during the summer months except in the evening.

As someone who lives in the pacific northwest being in the rain for 8-9 months of the year also sucks in a different way. Every place can suck or be awesome depending what you make of it.

Having lived in Vegas for several years, here's what pops into mind as things I enjoy in this town:

-Tons of selection of restaurants, especially Asian restaurants which is what I like a lot, at great price points and I'm talking off the Strip. If you go on the Strip, the prices skyrocket but there are some amazing gems that are worth the money. We also have a ton of chain restaurants if that's your thing.

-AYCE Sushi places (yes I've mentioned restaurants but Vegas seems to be tops for AYCE sushi compared to other major cities in the US)

-Great hours on everything as many things like supermarkets and gyms are 24 hours which I've gotten used to living here. There is also an abundance of supermarkets and stores to buy stuff no matter what part of town you live in

-On top of real estate, day to day expenses seem cheaper in LV compared to other major cities. I do a ton of produce and meat shopping at the Mexican supermarkets and prices are dirt cheap compared to what I see when I travel to other cities across the US

-Now we have good sports facilities to go see VGK, the new ballpark in Summerlin, and the Raiders are right around the corner (that stadium is coming along quickly). If you like sports, you can sports bet on your phone or go to a sports book which is like a sports bar on crack! (in a good way in terms of environment)

-Lots of great music acts pass thru Vegas now with T-Mobile so we get all of the major concerts that hit the other major US cities and the Smith Center has had some great Broadway shows pass through over the past few years (I've gotten more into this recently)

-Lots of comedy shows on the strip (I like live stand up) and tickets are often free for locals

-Awesome outdoor activities at Lake Mead, Red Rock, and if you don't mind a drive for a weekend trip Valley of Fire and other state and federal parks (major parks like Zion and Bryce are within driving range too)

-Good selection of local parks if you're looking for a run

-Great airport that is super close if you live on the south side of town with a ton of cheap flights to lots of domestic and some international locations too (I am companion pass on SW with tons of points so this is a big one for me)

-For weekend trips, LA and Phoenix are drive able (more so LA)

-Real estate has gotten more expensive but it's gotten more expensive everywhere so Vegas still seems like a good deal compared to CA and other major cities with this many entertainment and food options

-For me, I like the warm weather so the summers are tolerable and the mornings and nights are actually comfortable. The winters are pure gold!

-Cheap property taxes and no state income tax (these 2 go a LONG way)

-TONS of poker rooms to choose from with games always going and evenings and weekends offer amazing game selection (even outside the WSOP)

-Random personal pluses: good library system, good donut shops, and cheap bowling during off hours

What do other cities offer that you are missing here in Vegas? I know culture like museums are non-existent and the job market definitely pays less than other cities but if you have your own business, you don't have issues with that. Meeting good friends is definitely much tougher here but with time you'll find good people and will have a nice circle.

I think looking at the full package and the cost of life here, Vegas is definitely one of the best cities in the US. Would I rather live in San Diego for the weather? Yes. But too expensive for me. Would I rather live in NYC, Chicago, or SF for the culture, entertainment, and food options? Yes. But too expensive and the weather sucks.

Let's not brush off the cost of living factor...
From LA to LV, I've doubled my living space and saved $700 on rent. No state income tax?

1. Great food at an affordable price.
2. Access to major/efficient airport.
3. Winter in Vegas the weather is literally perfect for 4 months minimum out of the year.
4. Soon to be two major sports teams.
5. Concert venues.

You're the self-entitled jackass who posted in another thread:

"Jokes on all of you tools who do the work for me. Thanks and see you on the felt! "

You are due ZERO courtesy from other posters in this or any other 2+2 Forum.

You are very poorly mannered and deserve no substantive responses at all.

My direct response : You reap what you sow, sonny.

Ok. Pretty much everything you can do in most cities. Hope that clarifies.

LV sems like a very good destination to me. In addition to gambling, entertainment, and food, I didn't see the canyons mentioned, or LA/Cali being so close for getaways.

Breaking news, different people like different stuff. If you’re looking for somewhere with legal weed and lower cost of living than Cali or Denver, LV might be perfect for you. If you want to live close to the beach, LV might not work out so well for you.

I own a house, but if you're renting standard apartments are $1300-2k, sounds unaffordable especially since the median household income in vegas is 3k lower than US average

ok I'm delusional, but i've never masturbated in the Caesars poker room

I would have loved living in Vegas at least for a couple of years if it wasn´t for the strict immigration laws (generally for the US as a European) and healthcare situation. I love the city, it has everything that I want in one place.

Yeah what I mean is that I couldn't possibly move there with family long term, legally.

Is there a point to your post? You state that Las Vegas is one of the most expensive places to live now and link to a site that only shows Las Vegas's number of 120. Did you bother to look at any other major metropolitan area? Las Vegas is one of the cheapest major cities to live in in the entire U.S.

Miami Beach, for example, has an index of 143.6 according to that same site:
https://www.bestplaces.net/cost_of_l...da/miami_beach

Miami is at 137.1 https://www.bestplaces.net/cost_of_l.../florida/miami

I originally moved to Las Vegas (Spanish Trail) from the Washington, D.C. metro area, which is significantly more expensive than either LV or Miami. It's index is listed as 173.9. https://www.bestplaces.net/cost_of_l...bia/washington

In fact, I specifically lived in Chevy Chase, MD, which has a cost-of-living index of 227.1, which is close to double that of Las Vegas. https://www.bestplaces.net/cost_of_l...vy_chase/20815

And we haven't even touched on other high COL areas such as Boston, NYC, LA, SF, etc.

Just because Las Vegas has an index higher than 100, that doesn't make it one of the most expensive places in the country to live; it just means it's more expensive to live there than to live in Podunk, Illinois or Kansas.
