Does everyone get a roll? Are they time limited? What else?

It has been a while, but IIRC they are indeed timed. Not everyone will get a roll. Some (most?) will announce a point near the end of each round where there will be a certain number of more rolls--"three more rolls" rings a bell.

A given number of players from each table will advance to the next round, and then again, etc. The number of starting players, number of available dealers, and time allotted usually determine how many from each table advance.

I have neither of the above. Just 1 out of 50 times I get on a mega-heater. My only strategy would be to do nothing until I get the dice, then bet like an idiot.

Not much.
1) Some people believe they have skill throwing the dice. I am willing to allow them to indulge themselves with their beliefs.

2) Knowledge of which are the best (least worst?) bets on the table and having the discipline to limit themselves.

3) Recognizing situations which may give the players an advantage. They are rare and not applicable to craps tournaments.

Somewhat related....I got an invite to a mid-week slot tournament at the Linq where the top 200 get prizes. Can there really be 200 people that would stay the night there just to enter that tourney?

The prizes are all awarded in free play so they know most people will just lose it all before leaving, but didn't find it all that much of an incentive to think 200 people would show up and play.

If they send out enough invitations for a comped tourney especially if comped rooms are included, they will fill it up. They will probably send out enough invitations.

You didn't say that the tourney and rooms are comped, but it sounds like it from your post.

Yes, tourney and rooms comped...plus an extra entry for every 50 credits earned during your stay.

I got the same offer. Agree they will far exceed 200 entrants, especially with the extra entry you can get by earning 50 tc. I would go if I lived closer to Vegas.

I would prefer not to share my favorite as it was a promo that I would love to see the same or another casino offer again. Only a couple of partners and I seemed to recognize its value. The casino certainly did not recognize it, nor did other players at the table--truly astounding. It was amusing that at least two advantage players were present in the casino but otherwise occupied with far less valuable opportunities. Those were some of my most fun and memorable times in a casino.

Others included:
earning entry into a craps tournament by making and winning a specific bet (much less expected loss than the entry fee)

obvious coupon plays

opportunity afforded by casino closing table at a specific time or # of throws rather than at the end of a roll.

This is the only one I can think of: On the last throw, bet everything on the come/pass line because you are 2-1 to double your money since there won't be a next throw to seven out.

Correct. Even if there is more than one throw, your $ is returned to you if no seven-out. Line/come bets on every toss until the clock chimes midnight or tosses expire.

Thanks I wouldn't have known these edges even exist, really interesting. Where I live its really just roulette and blackjack being played.

They don't exist most places. Not sure if there are any casinos that close tables like that any longer, but it doesn't hurt to keep your eyes open. For that or any other possible edges.

Not sure if you are still around or not, but I just remembered a craps promo that I happened to stumble upon that was flawed for a while due to a misunderstanding or generous crew. I immediately thought of this thread, so I figured why not bring this derail back from the dead.

The casino in question offered a promo for several days (don't recall if they were consecutive or certain days of the week for the entire month) where if the roller hit all points (4,5,6,8,9,10) before 7'ing out they received a sizable bonus and any other players betting the pass line received a smaller bonus.

The first couple of days the crew and pit interpreted it to mean simply rolling each number rather than establishing the point and then hitting it. Needless to say that changed the casino's expected payout of the promo and even the most degenerate gamblers recognized a profitable opportunity. The mistake was rectified after a couple of days, but the promo did keep the craps tables full

Moral of the story: Keep your eyes open as you never know what you might stumble upon.
