I'm headed to Vegas for the Circuit event at Caesars in a week or so, My Question is:
As someone who has stayed at nicer hotels usually how bad is the Luxor?

I have a few free nights and the rest almost free, After booking an expensive flight I'm just looking to save a little $$$.

Or am I just kidding myself with perceived savings do to likely more expensive can fare and likely accommodation tilt?

Thanks for any help

Stayed there my first ever Vegas trip. Wasn't that bad. I think the only thing I personally noticed that would date the room was the OLD tv.

The location is just horrendous.

when i stayed there about a year ago they had new pretty nice flat screen tvs. was in a tower room, not a pyramid room. I thought the rooms were pretty nice.

that said its probably close to a mile and a half from luxor to CP.... definitely long enough to be irritating either coming from or going to a significant tourney. the walk is through one of the most typically crowded/congested areas of the strip.... so basically its 1.5 miles of shouldering your way past families of fat people walking 3 abreast and standing still on the moving walkways. You can take the tram for some of it (monte carlo to the B) but IMO you save yourself pretty much no walking milage because of the boarding locations (you have to walk from the front of monte carlo all the way to the back to get the tram. Then when you get to the B you have to walk from the absolute back of the B to the front to get access to casears. Ironically enough, once you get to casears, you have to walk all the way to the back again to get to the poker room)

Which is to say, youre probably going to want to cab it both ways, which im guessing would be in the range of 25/ish a day with tips.... if you can get ballys for close to the same (IMO they are comparable in quality... ballys a bit better), i think you might save yourself some headache.

Good to know, I was there way before that.

Speaking of the Tower...Big-Z, you should definitely try and get upgraded to the tower. I was originally assigned a pyramid room but was upgraded to the tower for free.

Totally agree on the cab costs.

People always forget to factor that in.

If you are staying at encore, unless you just want to hang out at Wynn or Venetian, tack on $50/day for cab costs.

Luxor is too far from Caesars. Like even getting to Aria is a hassle.

Unless you just want to hang out at Mandalay bay or MGM, do NOT stay at Luxor.

Cheers,

S

I agree. I have stayed at Luxor on two separate occasions, once was just for gambling and we stayed at that end of the strip for the few days we were there and it was fine. I then had an offer to stay there free a few years later and booked the rooms, but was planning on playing more poker this time around.

The first day or two I made the trek to Venetian (probably about an hour walking) and the 2nd day went to Aria, but after that I got tired of all the long walks and ended up playing at MGM, which I simply don't like that much or took a cab or the monorail and ended up spending $100+ traveling over a few days. Now I try to stay more in middle of the strip.

Why not just rent a car if you stay at Luxor?

Because a lot of people that go to Vegas like to keep their BAC above .08 at all times, or maybe it's just me.

Fingers crossed for this or the Go with strip view. Mini suites have a view of the strip?

Has the construction of the Cromwell affected any of the "views" from the Flamingo? The south-facing rooms had a great view of the Bellagio fountains... But now, I wouldn't think so.

Thoughts?

I would actually prefer a non-strip-view Flamingo GO Room. Last time I stayed there (December 2013) the "strip view" was obscured by a shredded Donny and Marie wrap, and it was noisy as hell. I had good experiences with GO rooms that faced the interior of the Flamingo before, but that stay sucked.

How long was the walk from your room to the casino? Staying at Flamingo in two weeks and don't want to take forever to get out of the hotel.

It's not bad at all, my elevators were the bank of 6 or 8 in the lobby and there's never a wait, and the lobby is really close to the main part of the casino and strip exit. It's actually one of the shortest trips from strip to the room that I can think of off hand.

Regular summer visitor from UK here, staying at Aria for 11 nights during WSOP. If any has any Aria specific recommendations (bars, Restaurants, entertainment etc) , I'd appreciate it

Lobby bar is a nice place for a couple of drinks, Manny the (head?) barman is good banter

Restaurants:

Lemongrass, American Fish (great happy hour!), Sirio and Julian Serrano Tapas (this is a must). Sage if you are feeling baller

Kind of a random question, but how will my overall stay at Aria compare to my stay at Palazzo in 2012? Does it just come down to personal preference at the end of the day?
As far as the room itself I'd have to give the edge to Palazzo. Unless you can $20 trick yourself into a larger room you will def notice square footage being less at Aria. I wasn't as impressed with the bathrooms at Aria compared to Palazzo and the step down living area is pretty neat.

Aria room has the neat "goodnight" feature where it turns everything off at bedtime.

Aria pool/fitness area is better. Much nicer greenery around pool area and fitness room is really more than just a room. It's much more substantial than Palazzo. Aria location very good although we'd walk from Palazzo to B all the time and found it easy esp with all the people watching in between.

Hmmm? I have been staying at the Palazzo/Venetian for the past 4 or 5 years on my LV trips. I especially like it for the pool. I like that it has enough space/room not to be overcrowded and that it has exceptionally nice cushioned chases. For the ten years before that I stayed at the Mirage and the pool was always a hassle. Lousy chairs and overcrowded and basically a nightmare to get a good poolside spot. I always spend 2-5 hours per day by the pool sunning. reading, and drinking. After all it is vacation

I get lots of offers from Aria on email but have been so happy with the pool accomodations at Palazzo/Venetian that I have been ignoring them. I already have Palazzo booked for my April trip but may try Aria for my fall trip this year. I am just skeptical that the pool can be as good as Palazzo/Venetian.

As far as Aria pool goes, Is it easy to get a good space? Are the chairs cushioned? Pool comfort and pool space availability are maybe my number one priority with a good poker room attached. I like Aria poker but am afraid to roll the dice on the pool. Why is it better?

Trying aria once won't kill you.

If you like it, new option kin forward

If you don't, can always go back to Venetian

I'm def not going to vouch for all the features you just covered. Don't think all of the chairs are cushioned. When I was there it wasn't overcrowded but that could easily change depending on day/time of week. It had a peaceful vibe to it mainly because of the amount of greenery surrounding it. I'm sucker for that I guess.

At Palazzo i mostly stayed at the smaller pool rather than the large one closer to Venetian side. It just didn't seem to have as much atmosphere/character to it. JMO though

Its been 6yrs since I've been to Vegas and I will be there next month for 5 days for the 1st two rounds of March Madness. Last time we stayed at the Flamingo and we loved the location. This time we will be at the Monte Carlo. We booked our flight/hotel way back in August, but now that I have read a lot of this thread I am kind of worried. I haven't heard many good things said about MC on this thread. Why does it seem like no one likes this property? Has anyone had a good experience there?

The Monte Carlo is fine, and also a great advantage is that you can walk a short distance to the Aria poker room. It seems like it is closer to the poker room than the Aria rooms. Also the tram stops at Monte Carlo and is a short rid to the Bellagio.

Some may differ but it works without the big price of Aria but it still depends upon what you are expecting. For me, its perfect for poker and it even has a food court.
