I have stayed there

It's a nicer hotel than the quad. The new tower is approximately similar to a holiday inn

But location is slightly too far south

Depends on where you want to go

Ie. aria is really as far north as you can relationally walk.

Try the Monte Carlo.

Still cheap but better location

Just booked a Fountain View Room at PH. Does it make sense to try the $20 trick and what could I potentially get upgraded to? Or should I re-book a Hollywood Hip room and try to get a Fountain View Room using the $20 trick?

Also, which rooms should I avoid if i want to be as close to gaming floor as possible?

TI.

Awful program though.

It's like $500 for 50/wk of play....

Thanks to those who responded to my earlier query about Caesars, Mandalay Bay or Aria.

In the end I've booked Hilton Holiday suites at the north end of the strip.

I'm only there for the WSOPME so hopefully won't be in the room too much so the wife picked what she wanted ......which was - away from the strip a bit, good pool, good for kids and preferably no casino.

Anyone here ever stayed there?

It seems to look ok online

Is it best to book hotel + flight through a site like mrjet or should I buy it all separately?

you will normally get a better deal when booking together, certainly from my experience

last year i use ebookers (irish website) to book my vegas trip: Return flights from Dublin and 12 nights in Aria for 1380EUR. If booked separately, the hotel itself could have run for more than that price elsewhere

however if you have multiple flights/legs on your journey all booked together and you miss one, then you could have the rest of your itinerary cancelled for no-showing on one leg

There's a very easy way to figure out that answer for yourself.

Would you be so kind to tell us what would be easier than posting a quick question and hoping for a quick response?

If you are going by yourself it has been my experience that you get a better deal booking it all separately. However if there are two of you sometimes you do better with a hotel+flight package.

I just got the Stratosphere on Hotwire... ouch. I knew it was worst case scenario, but I was convinced I had the Riv. Anyone with remotely positive experiences? I can't complain too much- $29/night, compared to $162 for the Quad on the same nights.

It's all by itself and not walking distance to any "strip" casinos/poker rooms. But if you rent a car that shouldn't be much of a problem. And renting a car for a few days is probably +ev over taking even a few cab rides, including two airport runs. The rooms at the strat are probably a good deal for the price (and leave plenty of money left over for the car rental).

It's different for different hotels. You have to do some homework and compare prices. The online travel agents frequently offer discounts on the hotel price if you book the airline with them. But each has different deals with different hotels, so even there you have to compare different OTAs. But sometimes you can find better deals by directly with the hotels using discount offers. First decide on a hotel (or a few) and go on from there. The airfare should be the same everywhere.

Edit:

I see you're from Sydney. The advice was meant for domestic travel hear in the US. It might be more complicated for you. Compare the prices of your options. There's probably no easy answer for the best prices.

the hotel itself is fine for what it is (a low end hotel). much nicer than the quad (not that thats saying much) and on about the same level as the riv... not taking location into account, i would choose the strat over the riv, tbh.

As noted earlier, the main problem is distance to the strip. It is walkable if you like to walk. Very safe during the day. Fairly safe at night. At a guess, id say its maybe a mile-ish to the circ/riv, which is where most people agree the strip begins. Maybe like 1.5 miles to the wynn.

Renting a car is going to be cheaper/easier than cabbing it. If youre <25 sign up for hertz gold family (free but you have to put a cc on file) and get no surcharge.

If youre too cheap to do either one of those, the strat is relatively close to the sahara monorail station. However, if there are more than two people on your party, it might be cheaper just to cab iut rather than buy mono tickets for everyone.

Thanks for your help. According to Google maps your distances are spot on. I do love to walk, especially in 68 degree weather. My biggest concern is walking that mile from the Riv to Stratosphere late at night. I'll probably attempt it the first night then adjust from there.

Hilton Holiday Suites is a time share property. My sister and bro-in-law stayed there a few years ago when we met up in Vegas because they offered them 2 free nights if they would agree to a short presentation and tour of the property. The 'short' presentation ended up being 2+ hours of heavy sales pressure. I would rather be stuck in the eye with a fork than waste my time in Vegas on that BS. Next time they come, they will pay to be mid-strip for sure, as they got sick of riding the bus or taking a cab anytime they wanted to leave the property.

Sounds like you paid up front, but I wouldn't be surprised if the sales agents don't try put the hard sell on you to buy a time share while you are there.

With that said, the rooms are really nice. They had a 1 bedroom suite with a full kitchen and large living room and very nice bathroom. The pool is decent, especially for kids who are happy if they can get wet. Wouldn't recommend to someone trying to pull some tail.

Based on your wife's criteria, sounds like you picked the perfect place. But definitely rent a car. You will need it to get anywhere.

Hilariously, I was on the phone with the Flamingo tonight because prices when down and I wanted them to change my reservation, and they asked me if I wanted to transfer for a "special offer of two show tickets and $100 in gaming chips." So of course it was a "short presentation with a fabulous breakfast buffet in the lobby of Harrah's" and all the usual BS that sounded like we were going to get kidnapped.

These deals are always EV-, right?

Take out some life insurance

You might get stabbed on the walk back late at night on the stretch between Wynn and strat

Yeah I could spend like 123123 hours looking for it myself or just ask a fast question.

Okey thanks! Good to know! I'm not really sure if I'm going alone or with friends yet so I will remember that when I decide! Great!

Hi.

Bachelor party in LV at the end of the month. Bachelor is a Diamond, has comped room at Caesars, others staying there. I'm cheap. Got a cheap deal at Flamingo w/ TR points. I plan to spend no more than 6 hours at a time in my "fab deluxe" room. Am I gonna be okay or is Flamingo so bad that I'll get aids?
Hotel Review Thread Quote
02-01-2014 , 02:54 PM
You will only get aids at Flamingo if you don't double bag it when banging the hooker you brought back to your room.

Been going to Vegas a couple of times a year since '89 and stayed at Flamingo about 80% of those times due to the location on the strip. As long as all you need is a comfy bed to sleep in, a shower that will get you wet and a toilet that works, you'll be fine.

CC, how easy is it to get in/out of flamingo hotel rooms? Any 2nd/3rd floor rooms so I don't have to take the elevator? Or are the elevators not bad? For this trip ill walk often from flamingo to Caesars -- I assume cutting through the casino and out the southeastern entrance makes for the quickest route?
