Well, mostly its because it doesn't have a casino or clubs or shopping. So inside the hotel will mostly be hotel guests which greatly reduces the amount of people and noise/excitement.

Great rooms, smallish casino floor (I actually enjoy it), very small poker room with very little action, off strip (pros/cons there), and great pool (Rehab - Sundays)

I haven't stayed there yet, but I agree with all this. It's probably my favorite casino floor in Vegas. It's open and laid out well, the music is great, lots of eye candy, the drinks come quick, and the table minimums aren't crazy. It may be off strip, but it's a trivially quick cab ride to MGM.

MGM Signature

A quick trip planned at the last minute to attend the 2+2 party. I didn't get to experience the place that much, but the rooms rock. Very clean, modern, quiet. Kitchenette but no minibar??? Passes the "vegas hotel rooms have to be dark in the morning" test.

Room service a little delayed at 2 AM and somewhat pricey. Hotel amenities look nice, and while its a long walk to the MGM its covered and air-conditioned.

I think if I were staying >week and didn't rent a house I would stay here.

I stayed at ARIA for a week in June and thought it was very good, the poker room was my fav in vegas and unlike bellagio had free wi fi and the waitresses were hotter,
position was good, parking easy and I thought the room was huge and I got the deluxe king which was the lowest tier available. Staff service was a bit meh but then I went to NYC and in comparison I was treated like royalty. The downstairs bakery thing was excellant and had some healthy options albeit it was a little expensive. The tram to the other casinos was handy (10min to bellagio poker room) overall its where I want to play poker and I liked the sportsbook set up too, therefore I think its a good place to stay for anyone playing a significant amout of poker (although I found it tougher than bellagio 1-2)

Thoughts on this? I just checked in for a 2 night stay in a GO Deluxe. While I can't say I'm a fan of the casino nor the constant pink, the room is quality. Def wasn't expecting a 1.5 bath nice suite given the affordable price I paid.

I got to the Flamingo on July 4th and had a pleasant experience. I had a GO Deluxe room but was pleasantly surprised when they upgraded me to a suite when I checked in. The nice thing about the Flamingo is that they don't require a deposit to stay there. So while I could not make any room charges (and this helped lighten my bill), it allowed me not to have to use my credit cards or debit cards for a hold on the room and gave me free use of any available funds I might have.

The room was nice and clean with 1.5 bathrooms (no tub though) and a separate living area with a large flat screen TV and couch in the living area. This included a DVD player in both the living room and bedroom areas. I wish I had brought my own porn to watch however. The room had good climate control and was very comfortable. Overall I was happy and the price was right...free!!! I am diamond so I guess I'm a degen.

The food was fine for the most part. The buffet and cafe had selections and the food was what I expected but wasn't bad at all. But for the most part it was good old fashioned American comfort food, burgers, eggs with cheese over potatoes, etc. etc. I did not try the Mexican food joint inside the Flamingo so I can not comment about it. Now they do have a Diamond lounge but aside from the weekends it opens at 4PM and there is only a selection of hot food for about 2 hours. I was disappointed in this.

The casino itself is small but comfortable and pretty much the only poker the Flamingo spreads is 1/2 and 2/4 LHE. But the location is great and accessible to pretty much any centrally located stip casino you want. I even walked to the MGM for the 2+2 party and this is doable although a cab is probably easier. It was nice to see $10 Pai Gow and $5 black jack as far as the eye can see at the Flamingo especially if you want to do Vegas on a budget. Bills right next door as a $0.50/$1.00 NLHE game that has a minimum buy-in of $20. I bought in for $60 and lost unfortunately, but it was a fun game with lots of loose action.

I did not try the pool at the Flamingo which was my one regret while staying there but I'll definitely try it next time I am there. So I can't comment on that. But I like the Flamingo better than Harrahs but kind of up in the air as to which is better between the Flamingo or Ballys, but Bally's rooms are nicer in general, especially in the North Tower. I would definitely stay there again if I felt like it. The shuttle at Harrahs or Ballys makes it easy to get to the Rio too.

I saw plenty of good looking women while I was there too. But that is Vegas for you and Bill's next door has a nightclub that a lot of young folks were going to I guess if you're in town on a budget.

All in all I was pleased staying at Flamingo and would choose that over Harrahs any day of the week. And the price is comparable.

Agree with your comments. I stayed in the same type of room. Great value for the money. Also stayed at Aria which was very nice overall and has the plus of a good poker room.

i'll chip in. all my stays to date have been in basic rooms at the relevant spots.

Wynn
I stayed here back in 2007 before Encore opened but with that in mind I think Wynn is the most luxurious / attention to detail / expectations of international luxury travelers spot on the strip. plus/minus of that is it tends to draw an older, richer crowd, not many young people. casino floor tends to be a bit dead as a result. the poker room is a bit isolated and quiet, which i don't like but you might. really hot cocktail waitresses. I would recommend Wynn #1 for someone who wanted a nice place to take the wife or gf.

Mirage
I made the mistake of staying here in the spring, thinking it was a good location and last time I was in Vegas it was pretty buzzing. The room was pretty nice, I think recently renovated? Although hallway noise was a problem. The buffet is good. otherwise this place is completely dead and there's no reason to be there. the prices + resort fee are outrageous making it a terrible value. would only stay if comped.

Flamingo
Stayed here a couple weeks ago and was really pleased. I read a lot of bad reviews but found the basic rooms to be fine for my purposes, which were poker grinding elsewhere. I also got upgraded to a GO room on a second stay and it was definitely an improvement. check in/out seemed to be a nightmare unless you go in the TR Gold (ie just signed up lol) line. the pool was pretty crowded, lot of young people. didn't spend any other time there. location is very central to the strip. I got a great price through TR.

Aria
My fave spot in Vegas for their poker room. I stayed there on the Flamingo trip. the basic rooms are very nice, but not wow-worthy IMO. (vs. the strip view room I had at Wynn... maybe not fair since i had crap view at Aria.) they have a lot of neat tech toys in them. the bed is really soft which i didn't like at first but got used to. the pool area was relaxing. Skybox has great sports bar food but get it to go or at the poker table. i would kind of think of Aria as a younger/hipper Wynn. it's slick/techy but doesn't scream luxurious. for poker grinding i can't really justify the extra cost plus resort fees vs getting a good deal at a TR property.

Wynn/Encore of 2012 is much more of a douche farm, with XS and Surrender/Beach Club bringing in that kind of crowd. It's not better.

Vdara panoramic Suite $244/night vs Cosmo 1 bedroom Terrace $270/night ?

I don't think you can go wrong with either, and the location is almost exactly the same with a slight advantage to Vdara since Aria is a short walk around the valet and Bellagio is connected. But keep in mind Vdara will hit you with a $25/night resort fee while I'm fairly certain Cosmopolitan does not charge one.

I think it also depends on how busy you want the hotel to be. Vdara has no casino while Cosmo has tons of people walking through it all the time.

Yep, very different experiences. Also, rooms at Vdara are nothing to write home about. Nice, but staid.

I'm looking to stay in Vegas possibly for a few months and was wondering what a good extended stay place might be. I'll have a car, so travel is not a problem (but would like to be within 15 miles of the strip). I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to living accommodations. I don't need 5 star, but it has to be clean and safe. I'll be there strictly for the poker and couldn't care less about the night life and scene.

I'll need at least a sparsely furnished place preferably with some type of kitchenette. I'm looking to do this as economically as possible (within reason). Again, something nice and clean is important to me so I realize dirt cheap is out of the question.

Can anyone suggest some decent extended stay places? What am I looking to spend per month? Would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

This has been talked about ad nauseum your choices are something off VRBO including MGM signature suites, meridian 1500/mo to 2000/mo but they are nice or a standard extended stay place in the 200 to 250/wk category suggest looking at ones by southpoint in s lv blvd

There right now. Without doubt the best value in Vegas, imo.

Cons: Location, location, location. It has a pretty bad one if you don't have a car. Only poker room worth a damn in walking distance is Gold Nugget. Freeway is right out your window if you get an even numbered room. Ask for odd numbered room. Not exactly party-central, which can be a pro or a con depending on your preference.

Pros: Gorgeous decor, nice spacious rooms, excellent buffet, brew pub on premises, dirt cheap. I mean DIRT cheap. Like three nights for $84 total (midweek special) including all taxes and fees. My wife is super happy and says she like it better than Paris etc, since the decor is all real, instead of disney-fied.

I have stayed at Fitzgeralds. It was cheap and fine. Nothing special. Good shower. Noisy air-conditioner. Good location for blackjack twenty years a go. I bet this doesn't help.

You can pick up chickies in the middle of the casino at the bar there. That is what I know about the Hard Rock. Plus all the 18 year old trim pussy out by the pool is very nice eye candy.

We are going back but I wouldnt mind staying at a different hotel just for a different experience. The Aria was great but its very clinical, I fear my second time around I'll only like it half as much

My GF has stayed at the B before when she travelled there without me, she liked it but didnt love it. I love the casino floor but have heard you can get stuck a long walk from there.

I love the strip area of Aria/Cosmo/Bellagio etc so I would like a hotel around that area with a poker room that'll have a 2/3 or 2/5 table running 24/7. Any ideas?

I was thinking Planet Hollywood but wasnt really sure, we arent party heads but we'll have a couple of drinks and a laugh. The Aria price range is fine, we dont want to stay in a dive
