Thanks.

Also plan to check out VegasChatter for info...

Plan to be out there for July 4th, likely arriving on the 3rd and staying at least through the weekend, maybe a full week?

Friends are staying at Caesars Palace, so we thought we'd do the same.

Looking to book Ocatavious or Augustos, as the wife enjoys space and a view. Flying out, doubt we'll rent a car, so valet is not important. Having a separate (no line) check-in would be cool though.

I'm hoping for an elevator that comes out near the poker room, or pool. Will have to continue to look for a property map, no luck yet.

Wife saw Nobu and that is now an option.

Also considering booking Palace Tower, and shooting for the $20 trick, or resorting to paying for an upgrade upon arrival. Downside... getting stuck in a room that we really don't want. Understand Palace is great for convention center, which leads me to believe that it's not so great for casino/pool access.

Anyone stay at Bally's recently? Thinking about going for their poker rate. Any other good poker rates going on right now?

Call the hotel in question and ask. Also, allvegaspoker.com have a lot of info.
I'm pretty sure this info could be found with the search engine on this site.

Enjoy!!

The closest elevators to the poker room would likely be the Forum or Nobu, but you're still trekking across the casino. For pool access, Octavius, Augustus and Palace are all fine.

In general though if you're concerned with how far the elevator is from anything, Caesars is absolutely the wrong place to stay. The place is massive and poorly designed. But I also might make fun of you for apparently being so lazy that you're concerned with the walk from the elevator to the poker room

Tee hee. I've been made fun of for much less... One of my complaints about Revel in AC, is that going back from the casino to the room requires walking the whole casino floor (or at least the length of it to take an elevator/escalator (they have both near each other) to the lobby level, and then to the 'back' of the property for the room elevators. On the positive side, less randoms walking the halls.

Yes, I know how expansive CP is, and most of LV in general. I guess I'll have a shorter walk to some places than others.

Thanks.

One motivation that I have for selecting a nearest elevator to the poker room is
not to avoid walking but to avoid smoke. Now the smoke in CP is not bad and you can select routes that avoid it (I think), but this not the case in many many hotel-Casino's.

If found a couple of useful property maps (google was my friend) and it appears that Octavius and Augustus are likely destinations for us. Poker room doesn't look close to anything and the 'split' casinos mean that it's a haul anywhere. Last year, we stayed at Encore @ Wynn. I can walk if necessary, just don't like to I do like the room near the club, should provide good late night scenery at least.

Sounds good to me. Going with the GF for 2 weeks in June. I want to play poker for some of it. Is there anything in the hotel for her to be doing?

You mean besides gamble?

For free she can:
  • Stare at the giant Aquarium behind the front desk.
  • Visit Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat (almost free)
  • Watch the Volcano erupt.
  • She can visit the atrium and see the towering palms, the lagoons, waterfalls and the exotic blooms.
  • Hang out at the pool.

She can go to one of the Marquee shows: The Beatles LOVE, Terry Fator, Aces of Comedy, Boyz II Men.

(BTW Terry Fator is an excellent inexpensive show!)

Or she can spend your money at the Spa, the Salon, and the various shops.

She can eat at the restaurants.

She can go alone to the clubs and meet someone else.

Maybe you'll let her leave the Hotel and go next door or across the street.

Chick flicks on in-room Pay Per View. Cheaper than slots, shopping or shows (unless you didn't feed her and she orders room service). And -you- don't have to sit through the chick flick.

You could teach her basic strategy BJ. Or a game played with cards
.

Quad review from my trip report (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/10...-pics-1317310/):

Quote:
Checking in at the Quad was HORRIBLE. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had to wait in line to check in. Had to wait 40 minutes at the Quad. When I got to the front I asked if there were any upgrades available, even though I understood that no upgrade at the Quad is going to get you much better. Regardless, since I was only paying $24 total for three nights I thought I'd see what was available, and ended up "upgrading" to a "LuvTub" room for $20 a night. I had no interest in the LuvTub aspects of the room, which is pretty much a King Deluxe room with a GIANT bathtub in the bedroom portion of the room and mirrors on the ceiling above the bed and the tub. My wife is way beyond my league in the looks department, and while I wouldn't mind checking her out in the mirror I have a strong desire to NOT see myself. I was sold by the desk clerk telling me pretty frankly (although it was probably upselling) that the beds in the LuvTub rooms were newer and better than the regular rooms. Not sure if true, but it WAS a comfortable bed, so I'll give it that.

Unfortunately, comfortable bed and big screen TV (which was on for MAYBE ten minutes total the whole trip) were the only positive aspects of the room. Here it is:

Bathtub was bigger than the picture shows; if you're planning an orgy with some water play, I recommend the LuvTub room. If not, it's just a really awkward oddity. Here's where I was pretty much just an idiot: location to the exit was important to me, and I KNEW that tower 5 was right by the door (not to mention remodeled). However, no LuvTub rooms were available in that tower, but I let desk guy convince me that the elevator/room was still close, and that the "mountain view" was great, something that people specifically requested. Here's the ****ing mountain view (with bonus shot of progress on monstrous ferris wheel):

We do mountains different here in Oregon. Also, bonus touch of class on our balcony. This was on the wall:

While we got to our room from the Tower 1&2 elevators, our room was at the far end of that hallway, i.e., a long ass way from the entrance and we got to walk along the path of truly disgusting carpets and peeling wallpaper. I truly cannot overemphasize how bad of shape Tower 4 is in. Imagine what you'd consider bad then multiple it by quite a bit. I didn't take pictures, but the carpet was pretty much stained entirely, with the accompanying occasional cigarette burns, with the carpet bubble or torn up in multiple places. Carpet peeling off the wall in multiple places. Just really, really rough. The room, to its credit, seemed relatively clean, although the sink had issues draining and the maids clearly don't make it out to the balcony. Actually, you can see a stain in the picture of my shoes. That was in the room. Similar stains pretty much covered the carpet outside the room.

In hindsight I should have taken the "King Deluxe" in Tower 5. Had no use for the LuvTub or the accompanying mirrors, location and appearance of Tower 4 was terrible, and the one downside of Tower 5 (proximity to Carnavale Court and accompanying noise) would have little impact on us since we intended to be out to the wee morning hours each night. $60 total down the drain.

One final note about the Quad, which has received more print here than it deserves: it's funny how you definitely get a certain type of person at the Quad, namely the person who wants to stay on the strip but can't afford anything else. Not knocking it, but wife and I observed that neither of us could remember seeing so many ****ing coolers. Coolers and/or cases of beer seemed to be pretty standard luggage for your usual Quad patron.

Again, a friend of mine stayed in a standard room in tower 5 in February and said there was nothing wrong with it, and confirmed that the stains and cleanliness issues I saw in tower 4 didn't exist on the floor he stayed on. Further, the room itself, and bed particularly, seemed clean and fresh.

So yes, if the price is significantly better than other properties (which it often is) I would stay at the Quad again. I'm truly rarely in the room when I'm in Vegas, and the location can't be beat. I would 100% request tower 5, however.

TI review: small but comfortable room. The casino itself was ok. Not fancy schmanzy like the places nearby. Gilley's party area was fun. If you're on a budget and don't really care to be surrounded by marble and waterfalls, you could do worse than Treasure Island. The coconut smell when you walk through the doors gets old fast though. A solid 3.5 stars out of 5.

That's not a Luv Tub. Luv Tubs are circular, shallow, and useful for their intended purpose.

Funny you mentioned the pumped in smell at TI; my wife loved it! She thought it was great. The smell that gets old to me is the pumped in sweet smell at the Venetian. Oddly enough the same perfume smell used at the V is the same smell of the complimentary shampoo at TI.

I just booked a flight to Vegas for August - September. The past few days I have been wading through the hotel reviews and I'm having trouble deciding which hotel to stay at (I have never been in Vegas before, nor anywhere else on that side of the pond).

My main activity will be grinding $1/2. I am a huge life nit, so I don't need a luxurious room or stuff like a pool or a spa at the hotel. Bally's looks like a good option to me, assuming that their free room promo will still be going on when I'll be there. I am also considering booking a cheap hotel further from the Strip. I don't know if that's worth the time and money I'll be spending on transportation though. Imperial Palace and the cheaper hotels on the north side of the strip are getting poor reviews, so I guess I have to avoid those.

What would you guys recommend?

How long are you staying? Assuming no more than a week or 10 days....

Spend the few extra dollars and stay on the Strip. Cabs are expensive and notorious for long hauling in Vegas. Just 2-3 cab rides per day would probably take all the value out of staying off the Strip and being right there in the middle of all the action and lights and such on the Strip is an experience in itself.

I've don't have experience with Bally's but I would say this; if you don't care much about the room, stay somewhere like Bally's, Flamingo, Harrahs, Casino Royal Best Western etc. Not saying they are bad hotels but they are usually cheaper than Caesars, Bellagio, Venetian, Mirage etc and they are all mid Strip and an easy walk to all the popular poker rooms.

Just my 2 cents!

Thanks for your reply. I will stay in Vegas for three weeks, so I guess I could also start at a cheap off-Strip hotel (and travel by bus during the day) and switch hotels after a week or two.

Pick a hotel that is located mid-strip (PH, Flamingo, Aria, etc.) that fits your price range. All the hotel rooms will be fine for a 1/2 poker trip, except maybe The Quad (former Imperial Palace). Keep in mind if you go for the poker rate you'll have to play a large amount of your poker at that spot. I would not recommend playing that much at Bally's. Not a nice room. IMO, the nicer 1/2 (1/3) rooms are Wynn, Venetian, Aria, Bellagio, MGM, and you can throw Planet Hollywood in for a mixture.

Again, despite the bad things I had to say about the Quad, I would 100% stay there again if the price was right, and ESPECIALLY if I'm going for a poker trip. Bed was fine and comfortable, location is hard to beat, and I would DEFINITELY stay at The Quad rather than off strip.
