With location criteria, looks like MGM, Monte Carlo, Excalibur, NYNY, Treasure Island and Flamingo are our best bets. Can anyone elaborate on quality of hotels, entertainment, shopping, table games and poker rooms (or proximity to) of these hotels?

Thanks
Flamingo has some sweet rooms: check out the Fab or Go Deluxe rooms. Great central location on strip. Poker room has 1-2, but within walking distance to 2-5 games. No resort fee. Table games aplenty.

MGM also has sweet rooms, with plenty of poker (both 1-2 and 2-5). There is a resort fee at the MGM. Also, MGM is located at the south end of the strip. Table games aplenty.

Monte Carlo has a tiny poker room . . . NYNY no poker room . . . TI has a tiny poker room . . .

As for the Monorail: there is one that runs from MGM to Ballys to Flamingo to Harrah's to the convention centre. Look for coupons in Vegas magazines. Its not free.

There is another tram between Excalibur-Luxor-Manadalay Bay which is free.

A free tram also runs between Aria/Monte Carlo, Crystals, and Bellagio

Google is your friend. Check out the maps.

Can't go wrong with either MGM or Flamingo, IMO.

What about all of hat construction at the Flamingo?

plus, he's bringing his wife. Flamingo is kindle a dump IMO

How od are ou SIAR? I think that the younger crowd would enjoy PHollywood or Aria. Older crowd would probably prefer somewhere like MGM (or Cosmo for a few extra $$)

We're 24 this year.

If Flamingo is indeed under major construction, that could be kind of a turnoff, but tbh for the price we're looking to pay, we're okay with a 'mediocre room'. This won't be our only trip, so our budgets will only get higher with subsequent stays.

As far as the 'younger crowd' goes, we're not really into the nightlife scene. When we're not in a casino or shopping or seeing shows, the only nightlife we'd be up for is drinking at a pub.

With all the comments I've seen, it looks like Flamingo is the nut high here. Smack down middle of the strip, good price, good selection of table games, walkable to many different poker rooms etc.

The construction isn't at the Flamingo, it's at the Quad and the Linq construction next door.

You keep asking about "trams." I doubt that any form of transportation here is equivalent to what you think of as a "tram." City bus passes are $5-8 per person per day. Take taxis.

Yes I was misunderstood about trams. But from what I hear mostly everything is walkable on the strip so I don't mind walking from hotel to hotel

Nothing is walkable on the Strip unless you're in great physical shape. It'll take you 20 mins of walking to get from your room to the front entrance of your hotel, which won't be at the street.

Not sure. You're kidding?

I'm in pretty terrible cardio shape, and walked from Venetian to just about everywhere on the strip

Just walked out of the Flamingo on Thurs. No construction going on with the Flamingo, but it is right beside the construction noise. If you do choose to stay at the bird, ask for a room facing the strip (west) or Bally's (south). This will keep the noise to a minimum, as the noise will come from the north. Might cost you an extra $10 (or more) a night for these rooms, but well worth the silence!

From your above description, you'll enjoy the rooms at the bird. GO rooms or FAB rooms, depending on your budget. Plus all the other things you've mentioned.

Yes, at flamingo in the habitat facing rooms you will get woke up early with contriction noise in the fab deluxe rooms, get a room in main lobby tower facing ballys but I suggest the farther away from elevator the better as there the air handlers are loud and can be heard unless you go to end of hall.

Starting feb 4 th construction at bills starts so will be noisy everywhere.

A friend of mine defines out of shape, he's like 5'9" 300 pounds and we have walked from Mirage to Bellagio and back with detours to MGM and over to Wynn. Saying it isn't walkable is so laughable.

Yea, I've never been and just examining google maps I see that it's very walkable for someone whose time isn't 'extremely valuable'

Pro tip: when using google maps street view, you can use your keyboard (WASD) to move around and drive around like a first person shooter in chrome.

honestly, whenever i'm in vegas i'm pretty much always working and i would consider my time 'extremely valuable' and i still walk like 90% of the time just because it's usually about the same time or quicker than a cab.

Agree. As a tourist, you can experience so much more by walking. A map and some planning can go a long long way . . .

If your not walking on your visit to Las Vegas, you're probably sitting down, eating, gamboling, or at a show. Walking is your only exercise. (O.K. you could take a swim, use the hotel exercise facilities, or go dancing, but you won't.)

stayed at the flamingo a couple weeks ago - had 5 nights comp'd in a fab deluxe

20 bucks at diamond check in got me this on the 25th floor of the habitat tower

(there was some sort of standard king room attached to the right)

yeah everything was old as hell, but the fridge was cold - kinda a waste since i wasn't there with any friends (just the parents and grandma) but all that space would be really legit for pregaming/beer pong purposes with a group

Planning a Vegas trip with my school friends. We are going in March around the 25th or so. There are 7 of us going right now though it could end up being one or two more. Ideally we would like to all be in the same room but its def not a deal breaker if we have to get multiple rooms.

Price is probably our number 1 concern but we also want a fun party experience so if we needed to pay a little more that would be fine with us. Pool would also be sweet if its warm enough during March in Vegas for a pool to be worth it.

Would like to be on the strip.

Basically none of us have much if any experience in Vegas and there is a ton to choose from so any advice would be really really appreciated. Thanks!

With 7+ people, I would look into a "holiday rental", get your own house with bbq, pool table etc if you're going to be there for 3+ nights.

Unless you're specifically looking to stay in a hotel.

No no no....

They're basically new to Vegas and want to party, and they're going to rent a house off-strip somewhere? Come on.

To answer the OP's question, unless a bunch of you want to sleep on the floor, you're not going to end up in one room. Suites are never the best value and in most cases will have one or maybe two beds. Suites at Planet Hollywood though typically seem to be the nexus of price to value to beds to reasonable luxury, so search for more info on that here. There's also Venetian/Palazzo, where if you got adjoining rooms you're looking at four beds, two couches and about 1500 sq. ft. of space between them. In general though, I'd be thinking more about individual (but perhaps adjoining) rooms than suites.
