I stayed at Budget Suites off of Tropicana & Wynn for two months when I moved here. It was fine, as long as you mind your own business.

You may have survived, but you definitely ran some risks. Among the risks you ran, someone somewhere in the building was probably cooking meth. You might have been minding your own business, but if they screw up and there is a fire/explosion it quickly becomes your business. Also, at any one time, probably a third of the building was rented out to prostitutes and their pimps. Not your problem, until there is a dispute, and the fighting which might escalate which will make it your problem.

I have stayed in a few places you can rent by the week, but like most stuff, the surrounding areas matter.

When you are done with it and move on you should leave it behind, locked up, and give LVL the combo so visitors can borrow it while on vacation!

I walked back n forth past Harbor Island last Mar going to the Virgin for concerts x3 nights (Fri - Sun). Seemed like there was a lot of security. Lots of flashing blue/red/lights (LVPD or security or just ???). Traffic in/out was restricted, not sure if that was just for the concerts or ???. Was thinking it would be pretty conveniently located to center/south Strip poker rooms for low-stakes grinders. Easy walk to PHo, so not too bad for the Bell, Aria, Bally's/Horseshoe or (less so) CP. June might be a bit warmer :-)

Walk on Harmon, even at midnight or later, seemed pretty safe. Well lighted, lots of vehicle traffic. Minimal unhoused.

Jesus Christ people, if you can’t afford to stay in a casino hotel for a short stay or an actual apartment for a longer one please stay home. It is not worth your safety and I sure as hell don’t want some cheap young poker player to read this and think staying in the ghetto is part of paying dues or whatever.

Am I the only one thinking that the Siegel Suites sound bugsy as hell?

+100

Bring a car. The savings on groceries and the convenience factor can pay huge dividends if you get a free parking pass on the Strip.....

If you stay in a weekly down by SouthPoint, you are near a decent poker room, plus the LVBD bus runs 24 hours I believe, if you don't have a car.

In any event, if you alternatively can stay pretty far out west and ride to/from the Strip on Flamingo.

Holiday Royale is an exception...that area is pretty dicey ..but i have only heard positive things about them....I know it used to be a good value and a lot of 2pl2ers have stayed there///...But Siegal is an absolute nightmare ...all of them...

Harbour Island is a hell hole....drug addict central, pimps, hookers, meth freaks, I remember reading in the LVRJ that they set a record for most Metro calls in a year....that whole surrounding area near Paradise should be avoided....

A recent google review:

First night I found myself being an exterminator because roaches were coming out of ever crevice in the room. The following day I purchased a can of RAID, to make things easier on myself.

The people living in this motel seem to LIVE HERE PERMANENTLY. Perhaps the Government is giving them vouchers to live here. Unfortunately they are a seedy, Grass Roots bunch. Non stop cigarette smoking, of the crystal meth, crackhead persuasion. Constant hanging out on the balcony. As if they are waiting to rob you. It's honestly a zombie motel. Gates are all broken so people can wonder in off the streets and hang out. Folks Wondering around all night knocking on your motel door at all times of the night. Constant banging on the walls and screaming/yelling and extremely loud car music throughout this place.

Excellent decision..... (based on 30+ years in Las Vegas, I think you made a wise choice. In the interim, build your bankroll locally.)

Going to need a review on the quality of drugs and hookers available there.

One of the best tacos stands in Vegas is in the tire shop parking lot across from those Budget Suites on LV Blvd and Bonanza. You'd have to pay me AYCE tacos for me to even consider staying there but at least you have a good meal close by.
