Do you want to stay in a hotel or a casino-hotel?

I’m a huge fan of Vdara because from your room it’s only a couple minutes to the poker rooms at Bellagio and Aria and even faster to sit in an Uber with a coffee in your hand. When people say that Vdara doesn’t have a poker room, I tell them that it might take longer to get there from your room at Aria or Bellagio.

I haven’t been to the remodeled ParkMGM but location has always been the major plus factor for that property as well. Vdara fridge/kitchen is certainly a plus but at least to me that’s not worth $40 extra a day. If the cheaper room is a priority for you, I’d try ParkMGM otherwise I’d go to Vdara.

Can i check in without a credit or debit card?

You will either need a credit/debit card, or you will have to pay an incidentals deposit in cash, usually about $100/night. You will receive that back at the end of your stay assuming you didn't make charges or damage the room.

I like Vdara for proximity to Bellagio and Aria poker but no casino and quiet rooms. I haven't stayed in one of their basic rooms in a while though, mostly try for upgrades. Still think there's reasonable value if you find yourself eating leftovers or wanting a place to prepare a simple breakfast.
Concur with this. The kitchen (with full-size refrigerator) and the in-room washer and dryer make things so much easier for a stay of more than a few days.

Vdara staff have always been very prompt at bringing dishware/cookware up to the room and will also bring things like laundry detergent and dish soap. Even if you don't do much more than bacon and eggs, it saves a ton of money over going out to eat every morning.

Hey. Looking to book a trip mid September for 8 or 9 nights to catch the end of the Deepstack Extravaganza III and I could use some hotel advice.

Planning to stay in 3 different properties, 3 nights each (or 332 if I stay for 8). Will stay at a hotel on Fremont for one of these, likely over the weekend to save some $$ and because it would be cool to experience downtown at the weekend, then will stay on the strip for the rest of the trip.

No strict budget but as the room will be mostly used for sleeping in and not much else I'd like to save money where possible without staying somewhere dirty n sketchy.

Fremont I was thinking Four Queens, The D or El Cortez. On the strip I was thinking Linq, Bally's, Luxor, Polo Towers, Park MGM, Harrah's, Flamingo type places.

How do this sound? TY

I'm a fan of staying downtown. I have never stayed at the Four Queens, but my guess is that the rooms are older. The D has the most modern rooms. El Cortez is a bit of a walk from the other downtown casinos, but will have the most space of the three you mentioned.

I would do all the time you have planned for the strip at one hotel, especially if you are a fan of sleeping in. On the days you check out you'll need a plan in order to not waste a day of your trip. Still you will need to check out by 11:00 (or pay for later), store your bags, and play poker till you can check in. If that's what you want, fine. But you can sleep in one more day if you just pick a hotel near the card room of your choice and stay there.

My friends from back home who come for edc every year use the D and love it. I’ve been upstairs and would say the rooms are clean and well appointed for being on the small side.

T.I. Could be a solid value option near the Venetian for your time near the tournament.

Thanks for the replies guys ^.

Good point regarding the checking out and back in but I'm an early riser and travel light so I'm not certain that it will be that big of an issue. Something to think on though, TY.

Same again for picking a location near the Venetian for the Deepstacks, thanks.

PSA: Some hotels have TWO lost and founds. Like a dolt, I checked out of a hotel and left the ac adapter/charger cord for my laptop behind. The desk was black and camouflaged the cable well. So I called security/lost and found, nope, didn't have it. Then a couple weeks later I called back to see if it turned up, and this time the security guy told me they also had a Housekeeping version of lost and found. Sure enough, they had it.

Some of the rooms at FQ have been updated...I don't remember which tower. Biggest thing I remember is that you want a room AWAY from Fremont Street, although even those will come with ear plugs.

The showers in the renovated room had those fixtures with multiple jets from the wall in addition to the regular shower head.

Stayed at The D for three nights earlier this month. Room was certainly functional, albeit basic. If costs were the same, I would take the renovated tower in Four Queens due to the lack of resort fee. Although, being at The D will give easier access to Walgreens and a good sports book. Probably take Andiamo over Hugos Cellar in terms of the option of eating where I was staying...

Google Maps has El Cortez to Golden Nugget as a nine-minute walk, so from a room to the GN poker room should take most people at least ten minutes.

Seven minutes walking via Fremont street, but only four-tenths of a mile, so they are presuming that people actually get stuck at the light at Casino Center and wait for it to change. Anyone in reasonably good condition ought to be able to walk it inside of the seven minutes...

Consider also the average mass of the human obstacles in front of you on Fremont Street, which can slow down even the most able-bodied and nimble travelers.

I'm usually moving when the lazy people are still in bed...not a lot of traffic before 8AM. It also helps in dealing with the temps that so many seem fond of whining about...

The relevant point for me is that it is too far to go back to your room for something during a break if you are playing a tournament at the Nugget or Binion's. GN also only gives 40 minutes for dinner, so taking something back to your room and chilling feels rushed.

I have no idea how long the walk from the tournament area to a hotel room is. But if the total time is between 10-15 minutes, that’s actually not (much) longer than what you experience at the Rio or several Strip casinos if you stay at the hotel the tournament is played at.

I’ve had a room at MGM where the walk to the poker room felt like a day trip. During a different stay at MGM Signature, I was significantly faster in the MGM poker room than a friend who stayed at MGM.

Wait, since when do tournaments have dinner breaks?

Has anybody noticed that the booking section of the 4Queens appears broken?

For example if you select Friday + Saturday night it displays Thursday + Friday night in the price breakdown with the price that is displayed on the rate calendar for Friday + Saturday, if you select Thursday + Friday it displays Friday + Saturday with the price for Thursday + Friday. Potentially good for saving a few dollars unless you turn up and your room reservation is for the wrong day.

Downtown casinos are significantly smaller and closer together. You can often get from the street to your room in two minutes.

When I stayed at the Fremont, I could go back to my room from GN or Binion's, take a dump, grab some food I had in my room, and be back before a break is over. The Plaza is dicy because you have to wait for the light. El Cortez is right out. Any other downtown casino is doable.

Has anyone rented a cabana for the day at the Mirage? We usually go to Bellagio or Wynn, but got a good offer at the Mirage - but we had a crap experience at the TI in terms of their pool cabanas.

Thanks
