Depends on the hotel and noise level. In general, cheaper hotels have thinner walls but even at Wynn you hear your neighbor if he’s smacking up a couple hookers and they’re vocal about it at 5AM.
If we travel by car, my wife always brings a large fan to combat hotel room noise. If we fly and stay more than a couple nights at the same place, I order a fan for her from Amazon and have it shipped to the hotel.
Re: earplugs, even if you don’t hear the alarm sound from your phone, you should definitely hear/feel the vibration if you put in on your night desk.
