If your neighbors are very loud, then IME it's not uncommon to be able to hear them. Otherwise, don't even notice them.

Anybody been at Gold coast recently? Thinking about booking for WSOP. Website resortfeechecker says a fridge is 15$ per stay (not per night) is that correct? Any value to the "premium room" upgrade from "deluxe room"? Thanks

When I saw that upgrade, I thought it said per day. Look it up on the Gold Coast website.

My understanding of the premium/deluxe difference is the more expensive rooms are on higher floors.

I double-checked my email and it said per night. For that much money I just get ice from the ice machine.

I’ve stayed at the D, Luxor, Harrah’s and TI in recent years and they were all absolutely fine for me. This year I’ve booked the flights but have yet to add on my hotel to the package. I have a reservation (cancelable at no cost) for the first week at the Stratosphere, which I understand has changed ownership and has been partially remodelled. I still need to book somewhere for week 2. As long as the rooms are clean and everything functions well, I don’t much care about the amenities of the hotel, especially as I’m doing the trip somewhat on a budget this time. The price was £168 = approx $210 for the week (plus resort fees), which is a terrific price. But the reviews I’ve read on Tripadvisor and Expedia are very polarised - ranging from ringing endorsement to dark warnings about sewage-laden bathrooms, cockroaches, filthy linen etc etc.

I can still cancel - any thoughts/ advice.........

Thx
Stayed at Stratosphere and everything was clean and quiet. Area around hotel was ghetto though and there were hookers in parking garage. So just avoid going out and about around hotel. This was in 2015 though so it may be different now.

Looks at palms place for 20+ day stay. I struggle with allergies and usually hotels room are awful with the way the AC units are setup. Can someone confirm if Palms place or Vdara are similar in that regard to say any strip hotel?

yes-all of the large hotel towers function on the same type system-these use a central system to supply chilled (or heated) liquid to the air handling unit in your room. This unit circulates and tempers the air. You are probably sensitive to the microbes that grow on the heat exchange device if they are not cleaned often enough (most are not)

For me as a total non-expert, the AC at Vdara works exactly the same way as the one at Aria and other comparable hotels.

Stayed for the weekend last October with my wife. I'd personally stay at Orleans if the choice between the two was the same like it is with our free room mailers and such. I've heard *wink wink* that if you say you have insulin for your diabetes or some other medication that needs to remain cold then they will comp the refrigerator.

Just as a related FYI for those coming out for the WSOP and struggle with location decisions and transportation. Enterprise just dropped their rates again and I am getting a intermediate car for 13 days for $340 total cost (includes all the airport pick up fees, taxes, etc). If you leave the hotel at all and take UBER's you can easily spend that much if you are playing at different Casino's -

Lower rental car rates only help if all casinos you frequent offer free parking.

Or have free parking nearby. Rio and PHo and Venetian and Wynn covers half the poker of interest this year.

I wouldn't bother with car rental for only 2 weeks. Just book at the hotels near where you will spend the majority of your play. If it's Rio, then book Rio/Gold Coast/Palms etc.

Also driving in Vegas looks like a mess and I would worry about getting into an accident on the strip etc.

To each their own...... I stay at the RIO for convenience but will play at the Venetian, Hollywood, and Aria as well as the WSOP..... BUT I also plan to take a day or two off to get away from the grind and stay fresh- Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, Red Rock, Mt Charleston are all great mental refresher options and the LV traffic doesn't bother me. Being able to hit an outside restaurant, convenience store etc makes the $340 or $25 a day a bargain from my personal perspective.

I just found the latest rates to be very reasonable so I thought I would pass the info on for those so inclined.

You're right if you enjoy those things. I've visited a couple of times for about a week long stay and the last two times I rented a car and enjoyed the trip a lot more because I was able to go wherever I wanted whenever I wanted without dealing with annoying cab drivers.
You have to go from and to the airport anyway and depending on where you're staying that pays for your first 2 days of rental costs.

Has anyone stayed at either Hilton or Westin Lake Las Vegas? I'm visiting with my girlfriend in August and want to stay at the lake a couple of days to get away from the strip and enjoy the lake.

I once stayed there for a conference.

Basically, Lake Las Vegas is not Lake Mead, so be warned if you plan to "enjoy the Lake". Otherwise the property I was at was fine, for what is essentially a condo community. Certainly convenient to stay there

If you want to enjoy the Lake, meaning Lake Mead, hire a nice boat and captain for fishing, skiing and deep water swimming. None of those activities were available on Lake Las Vegas if I recall correctly ... there was stand-up paddle boarding, I think.

uber ?

(I recall that the RIO gets really old in about 2 - 3 days. Transportation off the Rio property is a must have in my opinion .... if you are dead-set on staying there.)

I’ve done both with and without rental car. Without rental car, I did Uber/Lyft exclusively.

Benefits of rent car over rideshare:
1) ability to go on longer trips, like Red Rock, etc.
2) makes changing hotels WAY easier. I usually am out 10 days or so and often switch hotels to get comps or a change of scenery. Being able to toss your stuff in a rent car after checkout and before checkin is a lifesaver.
3) similarly, gives you a spot to store your stuff after checkout on your final day without having to mess with lines/tipping at bell desk or checking valuables with them etc.

Benefits of rideshare over rent car:
1) no parking fees
2) I always end up doing rideshare sometimes even when I have rent car for drinking nights
3) not having to mess with the rent car shuttle and center lines and the rent car insurance hustle. Took me almost 2 hours from touchdown to get in my tourney this trip. Of course without a rent car, I would either have to go to my hotel first etc.
4) no risk of hassle/costs/etc if you are in a wreck or some imbecile hits you in a garage etc.

So I would answer these questions if you’re debating between the options:

Are you going to go outside the Vegas metro?
Are you going to drink often or infrequently?
Are you able to check into your hotel when you arrive?
Are you going straight to the airport when you check out?
Are you changing hotels?

when u say enjoy the lake, what do u have in mind exactly for activities? As Gzesh noted, Lake Las Vegas and Lake Mead are not the same thing.

The Westin property is nice and u won't have to deal with the Strip crowds if u stay there. It's a resort and they have plenty of resort-like amenities. Having said that, the whole Lake Las Vegas area was much nicer in the early 2000s before is got soooooo overbuilt.

Venetian pool deck was scheduled to be finished by late Spring. Here is how it looked this morning. My guess is that it’s at least 6 weeks away but I’m no expert

Palazzo pools are available with an approximately 7 min walk from the normal V pool entrance and there’s also the small one in the Venezia Tower.
