That's a great question and I have no idea. One of the things Aria/Vdara has been known for is their awesome beds. My one time experience could have been a rare occurrence, it was just the first time I've experienced it. Aria is still easily one of the top 3 properties on the strip.

The GO rooms are pretty beat up now after a decade but they’re tolerable. I stayed in their brand new renovated rooms recently and they’re really nice. The biggest gripe I have with the Flamingo is they downgraded all shower heads to 2.5 gpm about a year or so ago so that awesome shower pressure is now gone

Water control regulations. We are in the desert after all, and soon enough we’ll be in a drought

Cheap hotels probably change them every 10 years and I wouldn’t be surprised to find one from the late 90s in one of those low occupancy dumps next to the interstate.

I wonder how much longer a modern mattress would last if the average male was still 166lbs like it was in 1960 and not almost 200lbs like today?
Wow, I would have guessed at least six plus years. My biggest gripe is how the beds at Encore are so sunken by the 200+ pound peeps that sleep on it. Fun fact, the rooms at Encore depreciate at a rate of around 30 dollars a night. Somebody had fun with math when they announced a full room rehab a few years ago.

A couple of years ago the beds at Aria were amazing. Was one of the better qualities of the hotel but it seems like they've worn a bit. (My gf had the same comments this year) Also a sign I'm getting older when talking about bedding at a hotel is a point of interest to me...

$30 per night? You mean 30 per night per year?

He means each room depreciates $30/night which is roughly $10k/year.

How do they come up with numbers like that? After 5 years in business, the Wynn gave all of their 2700 rooms a remodel for a total of $100mil. So on average, those rooms depreciated $20mil/year which would mean close to $7.5k per room per year. That translates to around $20/night per room. Now 7 years later, those numbers certainly increased significantly, so $30/night sounds like the right ballpark.

thanks for explaining the detail - that's really interesting.

so it would seem that GTO is to book a hotel that's been recently refurbished. Is there published information on when each of the premium properties remodelled?

or maybe they're just closing a floor or two at once and refurbishing them while leaving the others open. I stayed at the Palazzo last year in a room that looked and felt superbly brand new and I believe there were three floors at the top of the property that were closed for remodelling.

Does anyone know the best place to book multiple rooms? Direct with the hotel or just use a travel agent?

20 of us coming from the UK, so I am after 10 rooms - we are looking for the Mirage or somewhere similar in standard to that. Not too cheap, but nothing fancy.

And prices that include resort fees ideally for when we all do our bollocks in while there! Assuming the $20 trick doesn't work to get them waived of course...

I don’t think any hotels on the strip, at least decent ones, include the resort fee in their pricing. The best place to start is calling the hotel directly and see what you can get done. I’ve never stayed there, but plenty of people like Treasure Island. It seems above average as far as rooms go and since they are independent they might be willing to make a deal with booking multiple rooms.

You can always contact a travel agent and compare what they can get for you.

TI is great value if you get the resort fee waived. You'll have to book the specific promotion, $20 trick won't work.

However, pool is small, and the food options are pricey.

Just call or email the resort, they'll either handle directly through room reservations or they'll give it to their people who handle group sales. Then see if you can make a deal.

Steve Wynn built the Mirage and TI at about the same time. Mirage was to be the best hotel in Vegas, and TI it's slightly downscale little brother. For people that wanted Mirage prestige but for less money. Everything is slightly "less" at TI than Mirage, but still pretty nice.

I agree, they are the best shot at getting a deal. Contact them directly, don't use a travel agent. Make sure you get a website price for 1 room first, to see how much discount you would be getting.

The $20 trick worked for me last year. Stayed for two weeks and upgraded to a strip-view room.

For food I often had noodles at Pho for brunch, but played and ate a lot across the street at the Venetian.

Anyone ever stay at aria? I’m staying there in December. It was only 66 a night lus resort fees

I had the choice between aria bellagio or Vdara. I’m staying solo if that helps and only playing poker.

Pros/cons?

I have a deluxe room with a king bed.

I've stayed at vdara and aria and preferred vdara. It's just less busy/no casino which makes it easy to walk to room. I could get quicker to both aria and bellagio poker rooms from my vdara room compared to my aria room iirc

You can’t go wrong with either one. As noted above, Vdara is nice because it is not as loud since their is no Casino, and it’s a non smoking property. It’s also right between Aria and Bellagio. Aria is great as well, especially if that’s the main place you want to gamble and play poker.

What I meant is that you can't use the $20 trick to waive the resort fees. Room upgrades work though, I got upgraded to a corner suite for ~ 2 weeks myself.

I have stayed in all three. All comparable but my preference would be Vdara Aria and Bellagio in that order.

You can walk to both Aria and Bellagio from Vdara without having to go on the street which is nice. Also, Vdara is nonsmoking and doesn’t have a casino.

Are there still hookers walking around in Vdara or would one need to ‘import’ from Aria or Bellagio?

(Asking for a friend)

I sure there are at the right moment. Considering there is only one bar and no casino, it’s never seemed to be a rich environment on that end.

I also forgot to mention another pro about Vdara. It has a large fridge/freezer and a cook top. So if you are wanting to keep food and drinks in your room, you can.

can’t answer FW’s inquiry but will say that hanging out in the lobby bar or Starbucks usually involves seeing women that you’d normally be leering at from CP/Wynn poker tables while they’re in the Omnia/EBC line

also the fanciest greyhounds i’ve had in town

as you are surely well aware, the A/V/B strip of properties have no shortage of available methods to turn $20 into $5 or less within minutes

if i don’t care about anything but having a comfortable room and playing poker at A primarily and B secondarily, i’m booking Park MGM for likely free plus resort instead of 66. the hallway to Aria and tram isn’t that long and you’re basically in the poker room at the end of it, same as coming in from self park.

everything was very functional, nice having table and chair, bed was great and had some cool stuff on the wall obv not pictured, bathroom was well done, quiet and elevators were fast

good question while on subject but not relevant in December: is there actually a way to walk Vdara to Aria without going outside? only ways i ever went were around the valet and taking the tram, neither are great in June
