I used to stay at the Imperial Palace while in college, and shortly after. I remember requesting a room on lower floors so I could take stairs down because those elevators were soooo slow. Seems nothing has changed.

I enjoy playing at the Linq but I just can't talk myself into staying there because it was the Imperial Palace.

I'm trying to book a hotel for late march. What I'm seeing is a King bed rate of 168/night but a 2Queen rate of $207/night. Both seem egregious, but is it worth taking my chance and booking the king and try to switch to 2queens when I get there? This seems like a $20 trick would work well and save me ~$40/night. Thoughts?

You can do that? Doesn't set off any fire alarms?

Won't work if all the 2 queens are sold out.

WRT the Rio shuttle, last I heard they had stopped it. Probably don't want freeloaders parking there and clogging up the shuttles.

Sure. I used the stairs at a hotel in New Orleans this past weekend. I had to pass on 3 full elevators stopping on my floor (6th).

I've also used the stairs going down at Flamingo within the past couple years. Same reason - full elevators.

I can’t imagine wanting to stay at Rio over staying on the Strip. Such a dark, dreary resort and the cash game environment is awful

Depends on your definition of "environment" and "awful".

Ordinarily yes, but it IS decent during the WSOP.

I would only stay there if I were grinding WSOP events and satellites and happy to play cash there to. And even then it'd be fairly miserable.

For OP playing one WSOP only in a week, I think the Strip casinos are a way better option, with better food everywhere, far better cash options and just the energy/non poker stuff of the Strip

I've stayed at Bellagio, Vdara, Aria, Venetian, Palazzo & Mandarin Oriental.
Most of these my wife has been with me.

Of those, the worst was Bellagio, it was very dirty and the room was dated. But maybe if you pay more it improves a lot (we had the entry level room).

Best value was Vdara, and will be my first choice when I go back.
Next best value was Aria, which consistently seems cheaper than the others but is much nicer than Bellagio.

Mandarin was very nice, but I thought rather overpriced in comparison to the others. Room was smaller yet cost twice as much.

I really liked Venetian and Palazzo, but they are always more expensive than Vdara and Aria.

My favourites would be:
Vdara
Aria
Venetian/Palazzo (very similar; venetian better location, Palazzo newer rooms.)
Mandarin

Bellagio

Thanks. Do you know which tower is renovated? Anyone know estimate cab and Uber prices to and from Rio and the strip? I think Ill take Rio off the list and go with Harrahs or Linq.

Harrah's rooms (and beds) are nicer than Linq imo. Linq closer to more cool stuff and better food (ie the promenade). If the same price I pick Harrah's and don't think twice about it.

Uber is $6-8 from Harrahs area to Rio.

Or free shuttle from a short walk across the street to Gold Coast that takes you to the Linq Promenade

Stayed there last summer. I enjoyed it but it had its up and downs.

Good:
Upgraded me for free to a large room with view after trying 20 dollar trick. I originally booked a Go room. If it matters I had fridge, view, large couch.

Cons:
Internet didn't work in room so they transferred me to a different large suite. Room was clean but the furniture had scuff marks all over it.

Elevators were really slow.

Thanks for the response. I don’t mind the internet issue as long S the room is clean and the bed isn’t disgusting. Not planning on being in it much

I thought about that too, or even just staying at Gold Coast.

I believe they're calling it the Valley Tower, fka Carnaval South Tower, iirc.

Timber i go every June and b/c of the wife's slot play we stay at a Total Rewards property, either Harrahs, or Ballys, however, Last June we gave Linq a shot.

The elevators there last June weren't bad, crowded at times yes, but not slow. They were all running. Room was actually nicer (more recently renovated), than the rooms I stay in at Harrahs and/or Ballys.

From what you said you won't be spending much time in the room (like me), and frankly i've never had a bad room and/or elevator at Harrah's, Ballys or the one time at Linq.

Stayed at Ballys twice last year, Linq once, and again Ballys in about <3 weeks.. can't go wrong for the purposes of location 'ok' room.

If playing the WSOP in June you may want to also play some of the series at PH which is an easy walk (most indoors), thru Paris and then out their main door and you are almost at PH w/out much "heat" if staying at Ballys.

I've always heard the elevators and check-in and rooms at Flamingo are the worst so based on that word of mouth I've never stayed there.

So what's your current ranking of Harrahs, Linq, and Ballys if they are all the same price?

Every June and this past November I stayed at and preferred Bally’s given its walkable proximity to Planet Hollywood for their Phamous Series in June and WSOP Circuit in November.

Would have preferred to stay at Harrahs later this month since it will be closer to Wynn and Venetian for their series, but the wife misunderstood and booked the room at Bally’s. No biggie. Gonna can to the Rio for their Circuit Event one day

Gun to head preference would be Bally’s (as per above), then Linq then Harrahs. Just something about the casino floor layout and traffic flow of Harrahs that I don’t prefer. Rooms, accessibility to rooms/elevators are equal (in my opinion), for all three.

PS: FYI, even though I listed Bally’s first I’m pretty sure they removed the free shuttle stop to the Rio.

Stayed in the basic strip-view room a week ago (no upgrade with 20$) and it was alright for a 3 star hotel. Bed was nice, Internet worked fine, size of the room is good and I liked the view on the strip. The bathroom definitely needed a renewal, furniture in general was run down and you could hear a lot from adjacent room/floor.. Meh, I will give a different strip hotel in that price range a try next time, but it was not terrible.

If you keep an eye on the web for specials, you can get a room at the Wynn or Encore for a reasonable price. I stayed at the Encore a few months ago and had no complaints, really a first class operation in all respects.

Any opinions on Paris? Booked a stay with my wife, some of the room pics look great, some look awful.

I've used their gym before, it was awesome, and can get resort fees waved.

I just stayed at Tuscany Suites - 15 minute walk from the strip if you don't Uber - but really liked that place. Italian villa style - so like 15 separate buildings - rooms were big, bathroom big, and all seemed very well maintained. Only downside to room was small 30" flat screen - very small for 2018. Very quiet also. Food in their restaurants decent quality and not pricey. Friendly staff. Low-key casino - only ever saw 2 BJs tables going, but nice playing in a smaller quieter casino sometime.

I didn't have a car, but seems like a good place if you do with plenty of parking spread throughout the property.
