What else do you think makes up the flooring of hotels?

The Rio for me during WSOP time is perfect as long as I'm bacheloring it. Not too bad of guys dive and includes very large rooms with coffee, a fridge, a sink ensuite with a large mirror next to the main bathroom, and a small living area with an ok TV,

But I wouldn't go near it with my wife because, in Vegas terms, it is a dive. And I don't take my lady to dives.

Of course, I understand this; but how many hotels have you stayed at in which you were clearly aware you were standing on concrete ?
This room was in the bank of rooms away from the tourney event where you walk through a dark portion of the casino to get to the elevators. Either way, it wasn't my idea of comfort.

The "stone" flooring you see in many venues is simply textured, tinted concrete. Walk through the restaurant area or lobby at Mandalay Bay for example.

OK, and so what ? I'm talking about the room but that's up to you to check out as to whether that textured concrete would be appreciated in the room .

Its not difficult to place appropriate carpet/pad but it is an expense. I understand that if placing carpet on concrete that the pad may not be used in which case the carpet should be resilient and be able to stand prolonged wear and tear.

At the Rio, it seemed like there was nothing between me and the concrete ; OK for the lobby, etc.... Again, the point is not whether concrete is used but whether the comfort, in the room, is lost due to a thin veneer of carpeting.

And yes it was dingy, not pleasant for a 10 day stay. Also, either at the Rio or Hurrahs, when I stayed there, the coffee cost $20 as you had to brew a small pot. This was a couple of years ago (5-10) and of course things may have changed with the coffee.

If also playing at other venues during prolonged stays one can do better in all aspects.

Staying at Flamingo in a couple weeks for only the second time; I've avoided after my first experience, which was an ok but nothing special room that I'd get to after walking 20 minutes to find the elevator, then 20 minutes to the room after leaving the elevator. I'm comped a Go Room Strip View; any tips for check in? Any upgrades I should be asking about? Towers/elevators to ask for or stay away from?

Thanks.

Pretty sure go room strip view is 99% of the battle right there

Does anyone have annotated maps of the different hotel towers?

For example, I gave these names, but they must have actual names.

No argument re the Rio sucking as a place to stay. I would not stay there for a week under any circumstances, even if it was for free and the floors were made of Stay-Puft marshmellows That said, I have rented a room during the WSOP some years, but as a place to hang or work from on-property.

Fwiw, there has been a decent Starbucks there the past few years I went.

Go Rooms with strip view (AKA Go Luxury) are perfectly fine though the newer updated Flamingo rooms are better IMO. Ask for a room near the elevator, it will save you the walk and also get you a better view of the Bellagio fountains.

Never had a hard time finding the elevators from the casino though, in fact one appeal of the Flamingo is the walk from elevators to the strip is about 30 seconds. The only long walk I can envision is from the Valet or way down in the north part of the old Margaritaville casino.

I just returned from 5 nights, 2 @ MGM and 3 @ Planet Hollywood.

The MGM was in the grand tower facing the strip on the 21st floor. Planet Hollywood was 33rd floor with a southeast view.

MGM had a really weird AC situation and it was hard to keep the room a stable temperature through the night. It made sleep impossible with the room being too hot in random intervals overnight. Planet Hollywood had a much more comfortable bed and a large bathroom with a deep soaking tub with water that was very hot.

Both stays we're comped. As a single guy, I would never pay to stay at MGM, Planet Hollywood I definitely would. The MGM room was definitely "nicer" it just was not comfortable.

going with the wife for 3 nights in Sept. Celebrating a landmark anniversary and it's her first time in Vegas in 12 years (and second time ever) so we'll go to a premium property

Wife really likes the styling of the Cosmo and thinking about getting a Fountain View room, either the Studio or the One Bedroom - anyone stayed in both and have a pov on whether the additional $50 gets you much more?

And...happy to listen to povs on staying at Aria or Bellagio instead. (Palazzo and Venetian are out because I've stayed there too many times and we stayed at Wynn last time and wifey would like a different experience)

My only Flamingo kiosk experience was that it allowed me to skip the line, but it gave me the worst room I had ever been assigned in a Vegas hotel.

But! If you have a room already that you want to change, you can go to a smaller line, to the right of the main registration, and request a new room.

The combined time of kiosk+checking the lame room+waiting in line for a room change was surely less than the total time in the regular registration line.

At least that was my experience.

If your wife likes the style of Cosmopolitan, I don’t see a reason not to stay there.

I often choose Bellagio for one night stays because I play there anyway and there’s nothing really negative to say besides the rooms getting a little dated. Based on the other guests you see during check-in, there’s just no reason for them to get more modern I guess.
Haven’t been to Aria recently because I stay at Vdara instead, but I’d say the style is right between old school luxury Bellagio and hip-chic Cosmo?

As for the difference between Studio and 1BR at Cosmo, I think both rooms are pretty much the same size (?) with the main difference being the layout. Studio has the living room area right next to the bed, 1BR has them separated. I also remember that fancy Japanese tub was only in the 1BR but I am not 100% sure if it’s always that way. In general I think 1BR has a better layout for 4 people staying in the room. For a couple I actually like the Studio better unless you want the fancy tub.

I agree with Madlex. If your wife likes the style of Cosmo, do it. The nice thing about it’s location is you’re right between Aria and Bellagio. So you have three premium properties very close to each other. I’ve never stayed there mainly because when the wife joins me she likes to stay at The Wynn, but the fountain view rooms at Cosmo look awesome. Seem alike a great choice for the wife since she hasn’t been there in a long time.

As far as Aria/Vdara, they are my fave, but I think Cosmo is a little nicer. I don’t think you can go wrong with it.

We used to stay at the Bellagio frequently - we've moved north to the Wynn the last couple of years for no particular reason. We did the Cosmo once and it was very nice - the only reason to stay at the Bellagio would be if you wanted to get a cabana for the day - I think they have the nicest ones in LV in terms of ambience and service overall. Not a fan of the Aria, but there's nothing wrong with the place - we had a lousy experience at Sage that left me turned off on the property but I recognize others would disagree.

But the right answer is Cosmo - happy wife, happy life.

Thanks guys. Hotel Review Thread

Aria is her second choice decor and style wise so I’m open to there too if I can see an amazing deal but I think Cosmo is the go. I’m really looking forward to trying a new property too - I’ll be staying at V again for wsop in June and while I always enjoy it and it’s really convenient, it’s not ‘exciting’ any more because I know it so well

I just returned from the Cosmo and stayed in a 1BR terrace facing the Aria...great view as well (5516). I have never been disappointed in any room at the Cosmo. Last year I had a terrace studio fountain view in the Boulevard Tower that has IMO one of the best views in Vegas. I like the terrace to be able to pre-drink, get some sun, eat breakfast on etc. Its the main reason I choose the Cosmo, as well as the location and ease to get onto the strip. The hotel has so many quality food choices. Opium is worth seeing and Identity Rewards has decent value. My favorite place to stay.

I love the style of Aria, but unless you are going to do a high dollar large suite, I don’t think it will match the views from the Cosmo fountain rooms. I say that having never stayed there, but the pics people post of them make it look like a great place to take the wife. The great thing is that you can try Cosmo this trip and next time she wants to go you can try Aria if you like.

Oh yeah, when you do go post some pics for us.

Just a +1 to how awesome the fountain view experience from balconies at Cosmo is, especially at night during the water show.

I still remember being totally blown away the first time I saw it.

During the WSOP is there any advantage to staying at one CET property over another or are they all fairly similar? (Other than the Rio)

Didn't want to start a new thread so I'm sorry if this isn't the place for this question.

I'll be in LV April 21st-29th (encore 3 nights, mirage the rest) for a bachelor party (which starts the 25th). I'm not a huge nightclub person, but the groom is dead set on getting bottle service for the beach clubs as well as the night clubs on multiple days. I figured I'd try and help out if I could.

Can you get comped tables/bottles at these clubs based on gambling play? I assume it's best to speak to a host regardless if you can or can't(feel free to PM me contacts if you think it will help!).

Clubs they are interested in going to:
-10 Oak at mirage on Friday(4/26).
-XS at wynn or Omnia at Ceasers on Sat(4/27).
-Pools (both fri and sat afternoon) - IDK, but I assume encore beach club is probably one they are interested in (any recommendations in this regard are welcome).

Other Misc Info:
-10ish Guys (not sure on the final number).
-My average bet is about $130 with both wynn/encore and mlife properties.
-The prices the best man quoted for cabana's was about $450-500 (for each day we go), 1-2k for bottle service at omnia, 1.5-3k for table service at 10 oak, and didn't put any thing for XS(I assume its more expensive than the others).
