Transport won't be a huge problem. Around 3AM it shouldn't take very long to get into a taxi or Uber/Lyft unless you get unlucky and hit closing time of a night club.

But if you're going to play cash games and want to do that on the Strip instead of the WSOP cash game area, there's not really a reason to stay at Rio unless you are worried about spending a couple hundred bucks more.

You'll be fine with cabs - a little more expensive than Uber but you have a grand to play around with

Surely there’s a middle ground on the Strip between Vdara and Rio though?

The Rio is a dark and gloomy hotel and even if I was doing the full wsop schedule I probably wouldn’t stay there.

When you add the fact that you’ll be spending a chunk of commuting time and probably $30 per day on cans getting to and from the Strip, is there really not a Harrahs, Linq, PH type property you can stay at that?

I consider the Rio much nicer than Harrahs.

The new tower at Harrahs has great stock. The old towers are way worse

The casino floor is pretty awful though, but it’s an excellent location

We have reservation at PH 13th-22nd June for $832.89 including resort fees. (renovated Ultra Hip)

I was rather surprised to see that basic room would have been cheaper than Excalibur. Since I play only poker, we don´t have any comps from either Total Rewards or Mlife.

By staying new tower at Harrahs, he could always walk behind to the Linq (The Ferris Wheel) and take the Boyd Gaming shuttle to Gold Coast (next door to Rio).
It runs till like midnight or so, to get back to Harrahs he could cab it back...but essentially save money by using shuttle on way to Rio!

i always book for the lowest room and just ask for an upgrade to the preferred tower... hasn't failed me yet...

Harrahs is very liberal about giving out upgrades to the new renovated rooms/tower (Valley Tower rooms) - with or without the $20 tip at the front desk. Unless it's a crazy busy week or weekend, they usually have plenty there.

I use Las Vegas Advisor and I got an email about a 5 percent discount on CET rooms that apparently works in addition to any other discount.

Another big fat reason to pick anything else over the Rio- there is not one good dining option at the Rio. At least if you stay at a strip hotel with ****ty dining options there will be plenty of better ones within walking distance. Rio coffee shop can't even make a serviceable club sandwich.

Some people like Smashburger. KJ Dim Sum is acceptable but inferior to Ping Pang Pong across the street at the Gold Coast.

Hash House, Smashburger and the American food place are all plenty serviceable at Rio, while agreeably not elite.

Good to know.. I'm comped Harrahs Madi Gras 6/10-6/14 have been regretting choosing that over RIO as of late after how awful the rooms look. Was def going to try the 20 dollar trick, but was unsure if the room being comped in the first place would hurt my success rate. Also assume Harrahs will be busy during the series.. Will for sure ask of VT now after hearing this!

Late night Lucky Penny Cafe at the Palms would be well worth the walk. And you got Chinatown up the street for dining options too

Yeah they don't have anything amazing, but the All American Grill isn't bad and I thought the Deli near the sportsbook was pretty good for quick eats. Don't mind the buffet there either.

Stayed at The D for part of my trip in 2016, and it's fine.

If you go through booking.com, you can get a room package with no resort fee, and the girl at checkin gave me the wifi code anyway.

4 Queens is fine, too. My mate stayed there last summer, and they had just refreshed the rooms, new bathrooms etc.

I'll be at the Encore next week.
Any advice? Secrets to share? Magic words to say at check-in that will enhance my adventure?

Thanks!
