With almost a $40k bankroll do you only play $1/2 or do you take shots at $2/5?

Wait...you have $40k and you live in your car? What?

Yes I thought of this too. Most people seem to advocate having 6 months of expenses in reserve in addition to your BR. Being a bit more conservative, I would want a year in reserve. It appears to me that bikeking19 is frugal and so a year in reserve might fit his plans. If a year in reserve totals $25K (arguably) then that leaves him with $15K for a BR. Plenty for $1-2, probably a little light for $2-5 perhaps.

Pretty sure failure at poker is not an option for bikeking19 so if he can add $10k to his BR he can move up. Cutting expenses is fastest way to add to BR and have a year in reserve. I couldn't do it that way but obviously he can deal with it. Hope he gets a roof over his head soon and wins enough. I am pulling for him.

I think that a more realistic card-playing bankroll is closer to $30k than $15k. So that would only leave about $10k for a living expenses reserve. Thus, bikeking19's current lifestyle choice.

You either missed the point: Location, Location, Location probably matters in determining the likelihood of your being attacked at almost any time.....

or you have zero street sense

If you think simply being"ready to defend yourself " is a better strategy than minimizing getting yourself into poor situations, you must come out to Las Vegas and play some poker, ...please.

LOL. Good point. Once in a while someone hits a one-outer, but I would surely rather be all-in against a one-outer than a 15-outer (e.g getting yourself into poor situations).

A 1/2 grinder having $40k to $50k to his name is f'ing crazy. Don't you know that everyone in poker is broke?

It depends on your skill level but $30k would be ridiculously overrolled for 1/2 and 1/3. I wouldn't expect good players to need that much for 2/5 either.

I think the main thing that perhaps should hold him back from moving up to 2/5 is his skill and inexperience, not his bankroll. Although, I hope he's taking some weekend shots in the Bellagio 2/5 regardless.

How are you going to be ready to defend yourself when you are asleep? A gun does little to help when you are sleeping, which is exactly what he will be doing the vast majority of the time he's in his parked vehicle.

Anyways, I support the decision to be homeless if you are happy but I wouldn't make any illusions about it being safe.

Make friends with an employee from MGM resorts, (i.e. A poker dealer) and have them be a cool friend to get a copy of their work badge.
Park at any top floor of any MGM Resorts International hotel. Use different ones on daily basis so it doesn't alert security. Probably safer than parking at a gym parking lot.

Not trying to be nitty about BR but depends on how much risk you are willing to take of going broke. A 0.01% chance requires a much larger BR than a 5%. Pretty sure our hero in this thread isn't quite certain of what his win rate really is at the lowest limits. I pretty much agree with what post though, he probably is a bit too risk averse.

Really solid feedback and perspective, honestly 2p2 has impressed me which is rare lol. Am I overrolled for grinding 1/2, 1/3? Sure, and there's many 2/5 regs who are likely working with not as much. I have 10k from hospital bills I'm going to pay off in a lump sum as opposed to payments so that puts a bit of a dent in the brm but still very comfortable. I'm not attempting to make an illusion that living in your car is a safe option, sure it comes with risks I accept. That said I'm pretty selective on where I park, it's never without well lit parking and plenty of security cameras, and while this by no means guarantees safety, its safer than parking in the ghetto off Washington Ave. The point of the article was simply to show that "success and happiness" isn't something defined in a dictionary.

Sorry if you've already answered, do you keep your money on deposit at the casinos you play at or in your car? Car seems a really bad option if it's the latter but gl with whatever you do.

Bikeking, I've played with you a bit at C's, and you were well-behaved, contrary to your exuberance at the vlogger's game, lol. Just pointing it out because some people seem to have an unfair perception of you.

I think it's very cool, living as you do. Takes some balls, saves some money. At your age, I traveled the country in a van, and loved it.

As to safety, people here are nuts if they think car living is dangerous. The biggest threat, by far, is law enforcement. Other than the random psycho--the type who can "get" you anywhere--car sleeping isn't dangerous at all. No one's looking to mug someone so poor they live in their car. It can happen randomly, sure, as it did to MJ's father, but more people get killed in home invasions because, duh, more people live in homes.

Car living is sometimes uncomfortable (and I was in a van when I did my traveling) but it's okay, about the same as hiking/camping, in fact more comfortable than that. And being without a lot of possessions is incredibly liberating.

I only, like others, don't understand why you aren't doing more traveling. Reno/Tahoe, this time of year, is cooler, and because you play low stakes, you can go anywhere. The Cali beach, the Colorado mountains, are all yours.

Also, dude: get a Diamond card. Free meals every day, free gym and spa (with towels, shampoo, everything), free fruit and bottled water, free parking, line passes, $100 a month in mailer bennies, and you'll pick up free rooms a few times a week which might provide you a nice break.

Good luck.

1. Parking: Usually Walmart or a Casino parking garage. There are certain garages which work out and certain ones that do not. In the Summer it was pretty mandatory to have the car on during the night, it's now getting to where it's not as bad. Also with a sunshade and providing you're parked in not some weird lighting with the tint on my windows it makes it very difficult to see in barring someone pressing their face against the glass. Only had a few incidents thus far which I'll post about in my thread. Someone had mentioned $7 was the actual number for running the car at night and I think that's correct I misspoke as to the cost of running it. It does matter at what temperature you have it set at as well.

2. I still maintain an address where I receive mail and packages. LOL at the thought of keeping my entire roll in my car I do have bank accounts. And a trusty 9 mil. for added security in the car.

3. Hourly: $24 at 1/2 1/3.

4. Volume: It honestly depends on the week and I think I should have more a rigid schedule for putting in volume, but it can be anywhere from 12 hours to 40 hours. As I stated in the vlog, I'm unhappy with this and it's really no one else's fault but my own and I'm working on improving this.

5. Poker is my only income. No other side things.

6. Food. Eat a lot of sandwiches, there's things like no cook oatmeal, canned foods, nuts, protein bars It's for sure probably one of the biggest things I sacrifice living like this and I maintain a pretty active lifestyle. Pretty much been skinny my entire life and for now anyways still high a ridiculous metabolism which burns through everything.

7. How do I sleep? The rear seats fold down flat with the trunk and like this, I'm able to stretch completely out.

8. As weird it sounds, this whole thing kind of just "happened." I no longer had a place to live with my old roommate and was looking for a new spot for about a week or so just living in my car and then realized it really wasn't too bad and I could save money doing this for the short term. Long term idk when I would look to move back into an actual residence, probably once I've been playing 2/5 for a decent enough time to know I have a solid enough hourly but I really have no set plans either way as of yet.

9. Moving into a van or RV etc. Two words immediately come to mind and that's gas mileage. I get 45-55 mpg now and run my A/C for a few bucks, giving up quite a bit of space and immediate storage but I'd rather continue to fill up for ~20 bucks right now.

10. Sex life. Yep little to none. Have had quite a few misc. dates while living in Vegas nothing that has come into an actual relationship as of yet. Maybe it's just a personal viewpoint of mine but I would never move in and bum off a chick I'm in a relationship with just to have a place to crash. Just not something I would ever see myself doing. If food was the biggest complication I suppose women might be the second biggest, "wanna go back to my place" doesn't exactly work, but then again, it's not something I'm putting a lot of time and effort into other than the casual 1st or 2nd date so far, if I meet someone I really like then I might alter my living situation rather quickly.

11. I saw references to a couple other people who have lived a similar lifestyle but was unable to pinpoint specific threads, any links would be appreciated if you think it would contain some valuable information.

12. Vegas games really aren't worth staying in my car, traveling around to other games is a pretty interesting idea and one I would entertain, although there is a difference in wear and tear on your car between having it idle for part of the night vs. life on the road. I really enjoy Vegas, not just the strip but the friends and church I've connected with and all the really cool options you can do without spending a ton of money.

I think that addresses the majority of comments and questions.

I'm not convinced this saves you any substantial amount of money UNLESS like mentioned already in this thread you are a) playing a lot more hours because of it or b) using the freedom to travel to softer games in expensive locations like San Diego, Tahoe, Colorado etc...

To me it makes sense when you're doing it somewhere with beautiful weather/scenery and is expensive like Cali but if you're going to be in Vegas anyways why not rent the cheapest place you can near the strip?

Even for free, writing could help build your brand, get exposure for the channel, and maybe it turns into something bigger if it goes well. I enjoy the articles and I life your story.
There's no payment as of yet for what I've written, but Carlos Welch sort of followed the same path and now gets paid to write articles there and on other sites and I wouldn't mind getting to the same point by producing some more content. I do still own the rights to what I've written and am credited as the author, the only editing they do is perhaps to adjust a couple links or paragraph lengths. Writing is something I enjoy and will try and produce some more on a more consistent basis, as you said it's good for exposure.

I just returned from a trip to LA that proved a meager monetary profit however quite a fantastic life experience. Hung out with Will Kassouf quite a bit and regardless of love/hate him he's a genuine nice guy who is the exact same on and off the table, might actually write an article about just that he's pretty interesting, got to meet Allen Kessler, Phil Hellmuth, Mike Matusow, went to dinner with the CEO of the WPT and Pat Lyons, all really cool people. Before that I was able to rail a 25k SNG on PAD live in studio which was pretty sick as well. It's really cool getting these opportunities as a fan of the game.

I'll also be leaving Vegas for a few weeks coming up here. Will first be going to Saint Louis, MO for the HPT event there with a few of my friends, never played this series and the sattys and single tables look really appealing so I'll be there for the duration of that the 19th-2nd, and then I'll be in FL for about
a week or so. Will be attending a bachelor party for one of my good friends and seeing the family and friends back there. Had actually considered driving and making a big trip, but plane tickets were just so cheap, $150 total to Saint Louis, to Orlando, and back to Vegas. Should have a couple vlogs out this week, also should set myself a schedule for editing to produce things on a more steady basis I feel.

Sounds like you were hanging out at the Bike last week, bikeking. I was there last week too and saw Hellmuth, Kassouf and Matusow playing in the Live at the Bike room. I got into a game so I missed them walking out. Heard Hellmuth got 2nd place in the WPT Legends tourney they just had. Bet he was pissed about that.

As far as Vegas, how much is your buddy charging for a bunkbed? I suggest you get it. You don't want to get unlucky with multiple armed, desperate druggies at your car who'll do anything for money. A gun doesn't make your body bullet-proof bud. Take care.

If so, do you have info about why they recommended a certain line in his big KK hand that he posted in the recent vlog? It seems awful and I'm wondering why they would come to that conclusion.
