Going pro & moving to Vegas

Hey all, well as the title says, I'm moving to Vegas this week. This has been after much thought and prayer, and I'll try not to drag this post out too much Basic rundown of myself and how I came to this decision point:
-I've been playing poker for 6 years. (Youngish, 25, started at 19)
-I started online early this year, (chico, WPN, Ignition)
-I'm winning 10-50nl cash games at a rate of 60bb/100.
-I really enjoy the math/theory side of it, studying is part of the game if you're serious imo.
-I do have a "day job", I'm an avionics technician which I do enjoy, and will always have that as a backup should I fail as a poker pro.
-I recently came into 20k through a family inheritance.
-I now have the talked about "6 months of living expenses in addition to poker bankroll."

So my plan is to grind a mix of live and online, always keeping strict BR managment now since this will be my life. When I lived in Cali I took many regular trips to Vegas so I'm not too concerned about the overwhelming effect it can have. I'd really like to meet up with some local grinders and hear your stories and advice, talk hands, etc. as this is a really big step for me. So that's it in short, again after much research and talking to fellow peers etc. this is the choice I'm going with.
So please respond with advice, pointers, if you'd like to meetup, etc. I'd really greatly appreciate it. See ya on the felt!

Best of luck to you. You are set up for success better than a lot of other topics I've read about this subject. Well done on having a day job, half a year of living expenses covered and a proper bankroll.

So far 7/8 sessions have been winning. Playing all 1/2 or 1/3, haven't played any tournaments as of yet. Got here on the 30th, up $1400 with 15 hours of play put in so far. Moved into my new place in Red Rock Saturday, loving it so far!

Re: Going pro & moving to Vegas

I say, go semi pro... its a much better choice for folks with some assemblence of "work skills". There is a real feeling of "disconnect" from a moving society when you dont have a daily commitment, work.

Poker will always be there when you are off and who wants to see the same smelly ugly mugs on a daily basis.

I done it both ways (semi and full-time) FOR YEARS...For me me, semi is the best option.

Fyi.. online sucks from nevada.

15 hours, 8 sessions...So, your sessions are averaging less than 2 hours each? Why don't you play longer?

shorter is better guys, after 3 hours its a fact that concentration wanes, better to play poker in 3 hour bursts then break. Nothing glorious about sitting in the same place for a million hours and if you're A game goes down after 3 hours anyway whats the point?

In Vegas, it makes sense to play short sessions, if you are playing multiple sessions per day/night. It's so easy to get up, take a walk (or a drive) and go play somewhere else.

Feel free to unsub then. Yeah agreed with carnivore and Kingscasino, in addition to the fact I haven't made out a schedule yet for all my volume. Also if it's any comfort I just put in an 11.5 hour Sesh

Good luck with everything Bikeking19! Keep the posts coming, keeps a lot of folks inspired

As someone with a pending Vegas move of my own within the next month, I'm curious what area of Vegas you went with for living? Of course I continue to look at Zillow and HotPad listings until my eyes hurt -- and ultimately decided to use a Real Estate agent to secure a rental. (zero cost on the renter's side, and they do all the heavy lifting for you)

But would love to see what areas or complexes were looking good for someone else that just did the same move.

Hey good luck man!

Questions, why Vegas over LA ? Aren't there more games in LA ?

What are you doing for health insurance ?

Did you find an apartment or something ? What is your monthly rent ?

Hey bro thanks appreciate it! More games in LA, um yeah most likely, the commerce is great with several other casinos. Cost of living mainly. Nevada has the lowest tax rates in the nation on a lot of things, no income tax, and I have a prius so LA is still only 3.5 hours away which is maybe 25 bucks in gas. I got health insurance through Obama care. Pretty reasonable rate. I'm living in a 3 bedroom house with my pal in the air force, rent is $800 for everything.

Wow thanks for the encouragement man, honestly I'm pretty surprised anyone reads this at all haha. Yeah I'm living in the red Rock area, which is west of the strip, about a 20 minute drive. This wasn't my choice this is just where my friend moved, but I actually like it a lot. The views are outstanding, its quiet, red Rock casino is right down the road which has good games running pretty often, and with a prius driving isn't really a big expense either, and after grinding several hours it's nice to go home and just be away from all the bells and whistles

How have you been making out? Moving back out there soon, can't wait. Maybe some hand histories, bad beats, or crazy stories since you have been there would be awesome! Good Luck!

Thanks! Yeah sorry haven't been a great updater with this. So last night went to the venetian first, table wasn't that great, so I left after an hour. Sat down at Caesars at a great table, made $385 in 3 hours before two fish finally got felted once too many and then it pretty much broke. Planning to play some LAPC events, I know a floor manager who can get me some room deals and met a semi pro last night I might end up doing that with. Loving Vegas so far, to this point up $1632 in 34 hours of play.
