It still wouldn't block all of it. I agree that calling it a "race view" is a stretch.

I don't think the Flamingo rooms are in the basement, but I don't think they can see the race, either. Then again, these are still the same rooms that cost $700+ a night earlier this year.

Didn't see it mentioned in this thread. But those $200 seats for locals were for the practice runs on Thursday 11/16. Not actual tickets for the day of the race. So really more of a bait and switch than any kind of a deal.

I'm far from a big player and I'm fully comped at any MGM property that is located south of Park MGM, excluding Delano and Signature, from Thursday through Sunday night. So demand must be very low for the properties that aren't in the vicinity of the track.

Sure, and you will be at/near the event and be in earshot. It's an option I'm definitely considering, whereas I was not 2 or 3 months ago.

Yeah, but it's worth it if you've never seen those cars in person. And you can still watch the race itself on tv or in the sportsbook (I would guess).

I am 100% against what they've done to the Strip experience and brand for this multi-week sh*tshow. I truly wish the course were elewhere, like, you know, the LVMS

However, I have seen F1 cars running in person and do agree they ARE worth a gander, even in practice runs.

I agree. It's also not like you can watch the race from the grandstand the way you would watch a football game. You see what's happening in front of you and, depending on your location, what's up and down the road. For everything else you rely on a second screen anyway. Very different from an oval course like the Las Vegas Speedway.

I have a very distinct memory from being at a race (probably late 80s) where, after no car had passed for a couple minutes, people figured there must have been an accident somewhere.

I like that no matter what they do, it will be picked apart

$200 for tickets? “He he he I guess demand isn’t all that!”

$200 for practice runs? “Cheap scummy bastages should offer that for the real race to locals!”

F1 has figured out that they might need to find a different name for the paddock in Vegas:

Quote:
The Las Vegas Grand Prix empathises with this sensitive topic in the community, and as such has always intended to announce an alternate name for our complex that will feature F1 activations, food & beverage, merchandise stores, event space and more throughout the year.

Oh I get it now, Vegas shooter, but it wasn’t Paddock’s paddock. What if his last name was Grandstand.

Doesn’t seem like it should stir anything up

Obviously they're supposed to make up new words in English.

Considering between Sahara and MGM for a trip weekend before F1. Is the main part of the strip going to be that inconvenienced that it is better I stay a bit further North (i.e. Sahara)

There are several articles in the RJ about the road and lane closures. All I can say about it is welcome to the **** show.

They make it sound like it will be horrible for at least two solid weeks. Things are always worse than they make it sound. Basically you had better like where you are because you won't be able to move.

I think I will stay home and just watch it on tv.

Sounds like a lot of employees are planning to not go to work. They think it will be too much of a hassle to go on that weekend.

I thought I saw a RJ article fly through my feed that basically they were "still figuring out" logistics for employees but couldn't find the article later in the day.

I did see a notice going around that one of the grandstands on Harmon won't actually be built due to issues with sight lines and people will be moved to the Sphere area who had tickets.

I normally wouldn't repost rumor tweets like this.... but VitalVegas does have a pretty strong track record with regards to posting Vegas related "rumors".

I'd find it hard to believe this race is a one and done, but wouldn't be surprised if it was gone in 3-4 years.

They have a 3 year contract that might be pretty expensive to get out of. There have been significant one time costs like construction of that building that's not supposed to be called Paddock and pit garages. Apparently they spent almost half a billion dollars just on that?

F1 also has a ten year agreement through 2032 with Clark County to shut down the Strip for the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. But that might not come with any obligations.

It looks like they've spent a fortune on this. A "temporary" bridge? Good grief. I could see where there would be some really pissed off people if they don't sell a lot more tickets.

Yeah, the land purchase and subsequent construction really makes seem unlikely of a one and done. Then again the FIA is pretty corrupt or Vital is just sick of all the F1 drama and wants them to leave asap.

Unfortunately all sports sanctioning bodies are pretty corrupt. But I'm not sure how much say FIA has in any of that? The commercial rights are with Formula One Group which makes Liberty Media the de-facto owner of F1.

Let's see how race weekend goes and what the economic impact is. Might be a situation like the Ironman Word Championship in Kona that's financially worth it even though all the locals hate it.

I’ve never seen an event that made visitors want to avoid Vegas as much as this one. Doesn’t mean I expect this to fail though.
