I’ll admit it got my interest. I am sure it will look incredible in person when it happens. But I want the seats to be empty (doubt they will be though).

Bellagio fountains have some bad signs too. People don’t realize some of the walking areas are blocked even when they read the signs. And this is something that is easy to fix.

The Prince of Monaco is in fact the Duke of Valentinois

French law disagrees with that but that's a different story.

FWIW, I'm now seriously considering a trip to Vegas for the F1 weekend. If I can find a way to sell that to the family.

Awesome! I really thought about going. I'd be curious to hear about the experience.

When I was there a couple weeks ago they had the right lane in front of Bellagio completely blocked off, for no reason that I could see. Screwed up the traffic there pretty bad.

Why would Monaco care about French law?

If I could get $200 tickets, which I can't because not a local, I probably should, because I love a relative bargain. I just can't forget the two Vegas F1 races I went to. I think the first year we got cheap seats for about $30, the second year we lived it up and got deluxe seats for about $70.

I'm going to try to be in town just to hear them, but I'll probably watch it on tv. I've seen a somewhat recent Ferrari run flat out at Laguna Seca trying to set a record, so I know what fast looks like in person. The cars from 1980 might have been almost as fast - they had much bigger tires then, and the BMW turbo had something like 1400 hp. It depends on how cheap the tickets get, and maybe how good a week I had in the market.

Not sure if serious but the region of Valentinois is a part of France. Basically the same as you declaring yourself Duke of Texas.

Based on those ticket prices I assume there are going to be some GA deals too. Worst case on the secondary market. I had asked two friends who are residents if they would buy tickets and both said yes. When I asked again today if they managed to get some yesterday their reaction was basically "what, that was yesterday only?". But maybe they'll do it again.

I thought Monaco was an independent principality.

It is but there's only a Prince of Monaco not a Duke. That Prince also claims the title of Duke of Valentinois. The latter is a courtesy title though because that region is part of France where all that BS has been outlawed.

But now that we officially crowned marknfw (which my phone autocorrects to marinate) the Duke of Texas we can probably get back to F1 again.

I just rechecked the schedule and it looks like qualifying starts at midnight Saturday Vegas time? Practice sessions Thursday at 8:30PM and midnight, Friday 8:30PM.

I’ll be amazed if Albert doesn’t turn up.
Anyone who’s anyone in the world of F1 will be there for the inaugural race.

As well as being the Duke of Valentinois, he is the Duke of Estouteville, Duke of Mazarin and Duke of Mayenne.
He is also a Count, a Baron, a Marquis, a Seigneur and a Sire of various areas/regions.

The Duke of Texas is probably going to the Austin Gran Prix, it's cheaper.

Updated MGM prices for non status ppl.

This is what I had early this year via my MGM account which included "discounted rates".

Flamingo and Harrah's are $170. Cosmo will still run you $1800 a night, Thursday to Sunday required, non-refundable, and you need to pay the entire stay when you book.... and you don't even get a terrace.

I'd assume the Cosmo terraces on whatever the east tower is called has to be the best spot in terms of viewing from a hotel room as you'll have direct sight of the main straightway and braking zone into Harmon.

Although I'm sure those rooms were never even offered to book to the public.

The fountain view rooms are noted as "non race view." I'm not sure how that's possible unless the grandstands block the view. Even still, there should be a partial view.

No idea how tall those grandstands are going to be but the main one, across the road from the paddock at Koval & Harmon, is supposed to be 78ft tall. That's already pretty high for a temporary structure.

This is a crappy comped room (although I did get in at 9:30am on a Friday). How is this not a race view (even though it will definitely be partially blocked). But this is a 1 bedroom suite in Chelsea.

I'd assume the ones available to book right now are in the west tower which is farther back from the strip and would have an awkward angle to view the street itself.

I literally just posted a view from the west tower on a mid floor from 2 weeks ago. I guess there is a % of the view of the strip that constitutes a "race view"?

For that price you basically get the basement. I wonder how much the rooms are that can actually see the track.

For $1800 you probably get a great view of Mt Charleston.

I wonder what the mobs outside of the hotels will be like. I would guess high vantage points will be as blocked off as possible.

Does anyone know what the viewing areas on the back side are like? That's where most of the corners are, and probably the best views of the cars.

I saw a rendering of giant grandstands right near the Strip in front of the Bellagio. You would mostly see the back of the grandstands.

When do you expect the strip to return to "normal" after the race?

Would a trip starting on 11/20 be too soon?

Thanks.
