+1.

A friend who is the posterboy for due diligence researched many engagement/wedding ring sources and ended up using this site. He came out very satisfied with price, quality and consumer experience.

On his (actually, his now-wife's) recommendation, I used the site and was very happy as well.

The "value" of diamonds is about as quantifiable as the "value" of love.

Solitare diamonds exist basically for one purpose: for people to propose to one another. "Appraisal" is a worthless concept because there really is no secondary market.

Can 99% of the population tell the difference between an A-color and H-color or 0.95 carat and 1.02 carat or VS and VVS clarity, even if you gave them microscopes and balances? **** no. So the massive price differences between these are all marketing.

Getting 30% off an arbitrarily priced product is totally meaningless. Having it valued at 150% of the price you bought it at is equally meaningless.

It's traditional to get a ring when proposing. It's tradition that it's a diamond. And if tradition means a lot to you, by all means follow tradition. But don't buy into all the bull**** - diamonds are not the hardest mineral known (they're ironically thermodynamically unstable), 3 months' salary is insane, and buying a ring that's so valuable that she won't wear it is foolish.

If it's amenable to both of you, I recommend bucking tradition. Buy a nice non-diamond ring. Or a necklace. Or get matching tattoos. It's a symbol of your love, so just as you should bristle at someone telling you how you should ****, you should bristle at someone telling you what jewelry you should buy.

Spend the extra money on an upgraded honeymoon, or as a wedding gift to yourselves by paying off high interest debt, or as part of a down payment on a house.

I will add my $0.02 on a guy's ring. Wife picked out my wedding band (platinum, 9.9 grams). Basically it's as big as **** and I never wore it. Just picked up a tungsten ring with a carbon fiber inlay. Total cost shipped, $21.50.

My old ring was bought for $1100, it's worth $300 melted right now 11 years later. Yeah, jewelers have quite the racket.

Best Advice in this thread by far, I bought my rock from here after a ton of research, and then got a local jeweler to do the fitting, before i proposed I got it valued and insured afterwards and they quoted double the value i spent. Had a humm.. moment but gave it to her anyways.

Just remember every diamond is not the same, always go for a great length/width ratio (1.15+) depth % should be as low as your can afford and our 1C ring will look much larger then anyone who buys from a store jeweler.

Jim Beam, I'm frankly not surprised with your attitude to all threads and your responses to a legit question.

Sorry I cannot recommend any jewellers in Las Vegas. Just want to say ignore all the haters on here who have been through an unsuccessful relationship with a woman. I asked the right one first time, and she said yes. This year will be my 46th year of being married to the same lady. The only thing I will say about an engagement ring is, as long as you can aford it, buy what she likes, and if it makes her happy, then so will you be. Good luck to you both.

Just my 2c, obv buy for the diamond and not for the ring. Find a dealer for that. A good 0.9 carat will look much bigger than a crappy 1 carat.

I don’t think the problem in the post is with the girl or the number of her marriages. There’s nothing wrong with a girl who loves you and wants to celebrate this moment during the wedding of her dreams! So, please, don’t spoil your lives and simply do deeper research to find the best diamond ring. I bought my love a diamond ring from Diamond Registry and never had problems in our marriage.

Don't laugh, try Costco.

Shopped around for awhile and actually got the best bang for my buck from them.

The one I received was slightly bigger then the advertised 1.0 center stone (1.03) and came as a VS1 and not VS2.
They also have a very good return policy if you don't like the look of it and you want a refund. Spent $4300 before tax.

Got all the paperwork and for insurance replacement value it was appraised around $10,500. Also got a 2% cash back check from them at the end of the year as an executive member.

She has no idea I got it from there but really does love it and gets a lot of compliments on it.

Here's the link if you wanna check it out

Yep, was just going to post same thing. For sure, in Canada, Costco is the best place to buy diamond rings. Apparently, that applies in the US as well. Quality of stone is superb. I have bought 2 rings at Costco - one diamond and one sapphire. I shopped extensively at other jewelers, haggled, etc, but the bottom line is - for same quality of stone, Costco was 1/2 the best price I could find. Costco warranty is also great, plus you get the rebate if you have the exec membership.

Odds that the ex was the one willing to put up the $1200 ?

Just go see Mordechai at the Jewellers on western ave off Sahara. I bought my last two bespoke rings from him and they are wonderful... their custom work is limited only by your own imagination.
