That is a (car shuttle) train. They are used all over the world, for example the Eurotunnel Shuttle. Not too different from driving your car onto a ferry to cross a river. It’s still a ferry even if you sit in your car.

I was under the impression that Elon Musk was planning a system where electric self-driving cars are used to do that autonomously?

he could make money from it by charging a toll.

flying cars would be optimal but going under the traffic is a good second best option.
The sled/skate idea is not what was implemented in LA (see my post above with the Jalopnik link). What they implemented was a tunnel that can barely fit one car, with an ordinary Tesla that has been modified to have retractable ski-like things to connect it to rails, and go at like 30mph.

For a subway yes, but this isn't a subway in any way shape or form. The tunnel he built in LA is barely big enough to hold one car and it was much cheaper than a subway tunnel.

But none of that matters because his plan ain't going to happen in any meaningful way.

There are many places tourists want to go and it isn't easy to get around. Well it isn't torture either but whenever I go to Vegas I am always reminded how spread out everything is and how much walking is involved. Travelling underground also helps protect against the heat which is a big deal in Vegas.
Someone in Canada saying Vegas is spread out gave me a chuckle.

Musk says a lot of things, almost all of them are false.

Vegas should not even be entertaining this idea.

Agreed, but that’s just a test loop. In the totally hypothetical case of a 5 mile tunnel partially below the Strip and open to the public, safety regulations would force them to basically build it like a regular train/car tunnel. There’s even a good chance that two separate tubes would be required for approval.
