I don't think it's actually pointless.
Correct me if I'm wrong here.
Statuses are being extended to give you more time to use your status level benefits.
But, that doesn't mean that you automatically get your special benefits that you use in 2020 again in 2021.
For example, Diamond gets one $100 dining credit for 2020, that would normally need to be used by January 2021. Now they're giving you until January 2022 to use it. But, if you don't earn diamond again in 2020, you're not going to get an additional dining credit for calendar year 2021.
Overall, not a bid deal for Diamond, where the $100 dining credit may be the only thing you'd miss out on by not getting diamond from this year.
It's a much bigger deal for Seven Stars though, where the annual perks include a $500 dining credit, attending one Signature event, and one Retreat to a Caesars property where they'll cover up to $1200 airfare, airport transportation, four nights, and another $500 hotel credit.
With that in mind, it's probably worth keeping an eye out for special promotions once properties start to reopen. 125,000 tier credits for Seven Stars is still a lot, but is significantly less if they're offering a lot of 5x tier credit multipliers as suggested in this letter:
