I admire people like Hoff, movers and doers, no matter their political affiliation.
That being said, didn't know the guy, have nothing against him.
My commentary was just a very poor comedic attempt to say" I'm confused. How come it's voter fraud if a vote of a deceased person is cast, but a deceased person can get votes? "
I.mean, if the people of Parhump county feel that a Republican is the person that best representative for their values, by all means, but couldn't the election be postponed until a replacement was found?.
I'm guessing each state has their own laws and you'd know Nevada law best.

My post referred to your mention and questions re the POTUS, not the late Mr Hof.

However, to answer your current query, it is cheaper to have a requirement that the deceased guy's successor be of the same party.

Also, can we have the thread renamed Dennis Hof still dead, sort of like the "update" done for the Wynn bumper cars thread ?

Great article. Well, Trump is the president. And, Hoff and he were friends.
So, we can't neglect POTUS can we?
And, I done all I could to keep the thread going.
By the way, is Dennis Hoff still dead?

I think it was for national office, so it would be federal law that applies, not Nevada law.

Ok, good enough.
I tried googling but didn't get too far.
It's all well. I'm more on the liberal side of the fence and it's probably obvious, I'm no big fan of the President, but like I said, you have to respect the voters wishes. Heck, if I lived in Parhump, I would have probably voted for him too!

He was running for state office, not national

Ok, this is turning out into something it wasn't originally meant to be probably.
And it's probably all my fault.
But now that we're at it, and going about it in a civil manner, who oversees federal house elections?
SURE, Hoff was, or bizarrely is, running for the federal house of congress, not the Nevada congress, but is not every election in each state, none the less, run by the state?
Technically, the federal government doesn't run elections.
Forgive me if I come across as a total ignoramus.

Ok first off it's Hof, not Hoff

Like I said he was not running for federal office, he was running for Nevada state office (state assembly to be specific).

Correct, the federal government does not run elections. Elections are run at the state and county level. The rules for determining how the seat of a dead person gets filled would be state or county-specific for the seat in question (US senate seats would get filled differently than state senate, for example). In Hof's case, state law dictates that the seat will remain vacant until this happens:

Quote:
According to Wayne Thorley, who oversees elections at the Nevada secretary of state’s office, the commissioners in the three counties included in District 36 — Clark, Lincoln and Nye — will meet separately to nominate one candidate each. Then the three county commissions will hold a joint meeting to vote on which of the three candidates to appoint.

Nye County will hold the most sway, as the commissioners’ votes will be weighted based on the number of precincts in each county.
