Best I know, both signs are down there in the museum, just in pieces. From a random foray with Google:

They restore and display signs, but I don't know what they might do for the Stardust sign. It's kinda big to put back together.

My parents took me to Vegas in the mid and late 60s.
Circus Circus was very cool for a 10 or 12 year old kid.

Thanks for those photos, I never knew Circus had fountains in front at one time. I also like looking at those old cars. Life was so much simpler back, then, when gas was plentiful and cost 25 cents a gallon.

yea and when we wanted to go to a different casino, all you had to do was go to the parking lot and jump into your car and drive up to the next one. no walking a mile just to get to your car. and no need for valet.

How about the one that happened back in the 1980's where the guy walked into the Horseshoe casino with a suitcase filled with 777,777 dollars and placed the whole suitcase on the don't pass line and won.

Then a couple years later he did the same thing but this time he had one million in the suitcase. But he lost the bet. He then went to his room at the old Marina hotel and killed himself.

back then binions had a rule that the bets were unlimited to what you can bet but your first bet had to be your highest bet when betting over the set limits. the guy came in and wanted to bet about a million on one bet at the crap table. so they let him do it. i guess he came back again and lost. but it is a true event.
it also was great for publicity for the casino.

You got to wander why a guy who had a million to bet would be staying at the old Marina Hotel.

The Marina Hotel is still there? It's part of the MGM?

The exterior shell is still there but basically they gutted the entire interior. The only thing I remember about their casino is that it was dark and ordinary.

Same small rooms though.
"MGM bought the Marina hotel and demolished all but the rooms building.

The rooms were gutted and all new fixtures and air circulating systems were
installed. The old Marina rooms are smaller than the newer standard rooms."

Actually I used to date a girl who rented a room in a house where the owner said Joe Lewis died in it. But I just looked on Wiki and it says he died of a heart attack in Desert Springs Hospital. The owner looked believable so who knows what the real story is. The house was over behind the Boulevard Mall.

Also I drove by Liberace's house a few times. It was actually in kind of a dumpy neighborhood but it practically took up the whole block. It was probably worth three times as much as any other house.

Also Red Fox"s house was in just a normal mediocre neighborhood.

for many years the stardust was joe lewis's home. the old mob guys had a soft spot for him so that is where he stayed, for free of course.

He bolded what he changed. That seems to be a fairly standard way of saying "Oh by the way this bolded part is what I added or changed". Maybe you are reading this somehow on some crazy old palm or something doesn't distinguish the bold?

I do agree it seems a little odd..or rather lazy, but that's the internet.

Yes I remember the Orbit Inn. Remember the huge spaceman and planets painted on the side of Bob Stupak's Vegas World.

On another note I remember how the Dept of Energy use to announce Nuclear underground tests to the hotels so workers such as window cleaners on high rises would be prepared for the slight shaking. Actually I did experience an unusual rumbling noise one time like a train. The next day I read where they had a nuclear test right about the time I heard the noise the previous day.

Also they used to have parties where they would watch the mushroom cloud back when they had above ground tests in the 50's.

And I've stated in another thread that I was actually in an elevator with Edward Teller (the father of the Hydrogen bomb) when I worked at the Dunes. They had a party for him at the Top of the Dunes back in 1988. He was probably in his 80's at the time. He also had someone that looked like a bodyguard with him. I wonder if Teller played poker.

As far as old night spots how about The Metz niteclub, Port Tack, Calamity Janes, Cosmos Underground, The World Greatest Reggae Bar, Play It Again Sams Jazz Club, The Drink.

Another old casino was the Boardwalk. Also before the name switch Harrahs was the Holiday Casino. They had a great poker room with a lot of good action 1-4-8 and 1-4-8-8 games.
