SO been almost a year since i was on 2+2, but i need some info you guys may be able to help me with...The wife surprised me last night w/ a last minute trip to the WSOP for last half of next week! We are looking to add Sat. night onto the trip, and need a cheap option for a room. I was thinking about either the D or the DT Grand (i thing GN is all booked that night). Any opinions on one over the other? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Both places have resort fees of $26 and $28 dollars a night so factor that in. If you want what should be more quiet slightly off Fremont I’d got for DG. Also DG should be slightly cheaper. If you want want something more happening and busy and on Fremont go for The D. The D is technically one traffic light block down from the Golden Nugget so actual walking distance to the GN is probably only a minute or two different.

I’m actually staying downtown for an upcoming trip and staying at the Four Queens. Recently remodeled rooms and no resort fees makes it typically $20 to $60 cheaper a night.

I stayed at the D 2 summers ago and Downtown Grand last summer so i can directly compare them. I strongly prefer the D.

An annoyance - for downtown, the downtown grand has a very long walk to get to your room compared to most other downtown hotels. not just that its a block up. But even when you enter the casino, the hotel rooms are actually across the street from the casino and front desk. you enter the casino, walk through it. take an escalator upstairs. Walk through an elevated walkway across the street, then finally you are at the elevators to go up to your room. Seems like literal unnecessary extra steps.

The pictures of the downtown grand rooms look much nicer than the D, but they really weren't. Both similar, maybe D even a little better.

Noise - amazingly the downtown grand was actually pretty loud. the stage between the D and the four queens blasts straight up the street to the downtown grand hotel a block away and there must not be any soundproofing because it sounded like the stage was right outside not 2 blocks away. An east facing room at the D that is on the opposite side from the stage will actually be quieter than downtown grand.

Cannot speak to the Downtown Grand. When I decided to extend my WSOP stay, I needed something on the front end and wound up at The D. My room was at the end of the 7th Floor basically butting up against Fremont Street. To say it was noisy on a Friday night into Monday morning is a slight understatement...far worse than anything I ever had at Four Queens.

Other than that, the room itself was a basic hotel room with bed, desk, couch/hideabed and also one of the small refrigerators. Shower only, no tub...if that matters.

Sportsbook is slated to open tomorrow...currently, Circa has been operating out of the Golden Gate. Numbers were better on most of what I was betting than I could get through MGM/Caesars/WilliamHill. Of course, if sports betting isn't your thing, then disregard LOL!

Did you do a trip report? If so I sadly missed it.

I’ve stayed at the D many times...they gave me comp rooms for a couple years based on one long day of VP play. When I first started staying there (about 3 years ago), I thought the rooms were pretty good. But they steadily degraded over time. The last time I was there (about one year ago), the room was very sparse...no fridge, no table, or sofa, or even a chair. I was told if you wanted a table and chair in the room you needed to pay for an upgrade.

So my last time downtown I switched to DTG (which I paid for, though it was quite cheap). The room was very nice. Much better than the D or any other room I’ve stayed in downtown, though certainly a step below the better strip rooms. And much quiter than the D, as others have noted.

If the prices are similar, I would definitely go with DTG, even though I’ve only stayed there once.

If you’re looking for a pool the only place with a halfway decent one downtown is the GN. That being said the DG seems to have a better pool than the almost non existent one at the D.
