I did a search but didn't see much recent info about either of these two hotels. I'm guessing they're not big choices for poker players because they don't have their own poker rooms.

I'm interested in them because I'm Titanium Elite with Marriott, I have a ton of points, and probably stay at either one of for "free" (I'm sure there are monster resort fees at both but you know what I mean).

Also, I haven't called them to check, but usually when a Titanium Elite stays at a "fancy" Marriott they have a concierge lounge where you can get free breakfast in the morning and free ordervs (too lazy to spell it right) at night - free food in Vegas? I'm sure I don't need to explain how valuable it is.

Feedback and/or secrets in each hotel will be appreciated!

I haven't personally done this, but you should get auto upgrades to better suites at cosmo, and have the benefit of being super close to aria which is one of the better poker rooms in vegas.

It’s not a brag that someone travels like a dog for work.
It is questionable that they don’t take the simple step of calling the hotel directly.

Famoly who are non gamblers/poker players stayed at the Marriot last year. It’s a decent hotel but a bit on the far side - it’s approximately 10-15 minutes walk to PH or Aria. Cosmo on the other hand is much more fancy / exclusive and is in the middle of the action. Out of the two I would choose Cosmo no question.

I stayed at a suite at Grand Chateau at it was very very nice.

We didn't get breakfast or anything, but the suites were huge - we had adjoining suites - one with 2 bedroom, other with 1 bedroom. Nice views / windows floor-to-ceiling, etc.

When I was there, Planet Hollywood was having a tourney series, so cash games there were actually very good. PH is literally right next door.

I could be wrong but I think you're talking about the Las Vegas Marriott, not the Marriott Grand Chateau, which I believe is right across the street from the Cosmo.

For whatever it's worth, the responses I get on here are often more honest and unbiased than the ones I get from the hotel itself.

Also, the people who answer the phone at the hotel often don't actually know every nook and cranny of the property. Sometimes people who have actually stayed there and explored find hidden gems and are happy to share their discoveries.

Marriott Grand Chateau is on the South side of Harmon, next to MGM Signature. Las Vegas Marriot is next to the convention center.

Not sure which hotel right across from Cosmopolitan you’re thinking about, maybe Waldorf Astoria (preciously Mandarin Oriental)?

We are talking about the same thing, except “right across the street” is still a 10-15 minute walk and that’s just from the hotel lobby. Add another 5-10 minutes depending on what floor you are on. Nothing mayor, but if you make that trip several times a day it adds up.

Cosmo all day. Much better location and better food options. I'm pretty certain if you book with 100% of your stay with points, resort fees are waived.

Turns out I didn't have anywhere near enough points to stay at either hotel LOL.

Ended up booking the Orleans so I can play a lot of O8. Looking forward to a great trip.

Reminds me of a story my brother told me last weekend. Couple of weeks ago they went to meet a customer in North Carolina whose offices are located conveniently next to the airport. Unfortunately, the closest Marriott hotel was almost an hour away and the guy organizing the trip booked there anyway to collect the points. Doing that is one thing, but having the balls to tell your co-workers about it is a whole different level.

Where in NC? If the airport was RDU there a dozen Marriott properties within 20 minutes.

Sadly, in my 20+ years of business travel I've encountered more than my fair share of point whores. I'm not one of them. For example I'm a million-miler-club member on American Airlines but if another airline has a direct flight and AA does not, I take the direct flight. I had a coworker who got up at 4am Monday every single week so he could take connecting flights on Delta instead of the direct flight on American. I got about 6 to 8 more hours of sleep a week than he did LOL!

Same coworker was on a project where it was a fairly large team so they were all required to stay at the same hotel (a Hampton Inn), and he'd show up and pretend he was checking in with everyone else and then go stay at the (Marriott) Residence Inn next door.

When I'm visiting a client I always try to get a hotel as close to the client as possible, preferably within walking distance - I like the free sleep more than the free points!

lol @ American. Years ago I got a lifetime gold status but have avoided them in years. Why ? They had older planes, poorer schedules and crappier sseats than any of their competition on routes I travel. When they finally redid some of their fleet, they cut the size of the bathrooms to where you literally cannot turn around in one or use more than one hand in the so-called sink. If it is even close, I'll fly another airline instead .... points not withstanding. (To LatAm, try Copa.)

If you business travel a lot, the last thing you look for is going out of your way for "extra" points. Get the travel done as conveniently as possible, the points will come or they will not.

You also speak the truth. Walking or easy uber distance to clients offices is a huge factor in hotels, also more so than mile rewards.

Re the thread topic: definitely Cosmo. It is purpose-built as a hotel casino. The Marriott is built to be Marriott (which is fine, and I do stay with the brand frequently) .... just take advantage of a unique market in Las Vegas.

No idea, I didn’t ask. But he also told me the Marriott had a Krispy Kreme production facility in walking distance where they got some fresh donuts at 1AM?
Taking a stopover instead of non-stop flight if the latter isn’t offered by “your” airline is pretty common at my brothers company, too. He actually has a clause in his contract that allows for business class flights for all travel of 3+ hours and several of his co-workers asked him why he would take sub-3h non-stop economy class flights instead of taking the 3+ hour stop-over where he can fly business and collect significantly more points.

I meant to post sooner that I can't believe how cheap hotels are in Vegas. The Cosmo was actually only about $120/night for the nights I am planning to be there - not going to lie, I was tempted! The Orleans was only about $50, and there were several other hotels in the area similarly priced.

In Texas, you're lucky to find a Motel 6 for $50, and you're lucky to find a Residence Inn for $120!

Having to stay in a Motel 6 in Texas is what you consider lucky ? The Orleans will seem like the Ritz in that case.

where did you get Cosmo for $120?

I've signed up for their membership and also use Hotels Combined which aggregates all the best deals from every global travel site and I can't ever see anything for less than about $300 US for 3 night in Sept (Sun, Mon and Tues)

Try travelocity and look for it in June. The 120 price seems to be gone, it's like 160 now. I must have just gotten lucky at that moment.

Do not forget about resort fees on most properties in Las Vegas. That can add another $30 to $45 per night to the advertised rates...

There are a few properties that won't have the fee, but most do. They are disclosed up front, although the third-party sites sometimes bury them in the fine print few people bother to read.
