There is no evidence that the current increases are due to protests. If it were, we would see increases in all locales where there were protests and at this point we don't. The vast majority of protestors wore masks, and based on video analysis it was greater than 90% in many locations, which is the threshold that epidemiologists say is required to stop spread. Imagine that - people with a social conscience fully participating in a behavior that is good for them and their neighbors.

The increase in cases is happening in locales where bars and restaurants opened up without strict mask and social distancing rules, which is why even politics driven and fact averse governors like Abbott and DeSantis closed down bars again this past weekend and NV now requires them in casinos. It really doesn't take much of an IQ to understand that.

There's a lot of merit to the idea that outdoors vs indoors and mask vs no mask both matter. If either or both or true, that says something about how to responsibly reopen in a way that won't satisfy people who only care about going back to "normal" instead of accepting the idea that we need a "new normal".

The notion that the protests are not responsible for COVID-19 growth at least has some data behind it. This doesn't mean that it is proven to be thus, but it is much more plausible than blaming it all on the protests.

Itís funny after shaming people gathering in parks that all of a sudden being In a crowd outdoors is not a big deal when it has to fit their narrative. Statistics can be manipulated to support any view, so that tweet is worthless. Especially considering itís source.

Pot, meet kettle. You can ignore all the actual science you want - it doesn't make it not true.

What a bunch of rubes, going through centuries of cold and flu seasons when all we had to do was wear masks and wash our hands.

Statistics is actual science Katy Perry. No matter how it is manipulated to support a particular narrative. But you fall for whatever MSNBC and Reddit tells you. Everybody knew they would twist the science in an attempt to show that the BLM riots somehow had miraculously no effect on positive cases despite the close contact and all the touching going on. But yet somehow a picture of more than 50 people in an open field in Central Park enjoying the sun gets you triggered. You canít have it both ways.

After seeing the protester shoot the driver in Provo at short range, I have to shake my head at any driver that chooses to stop for protesters.

Re: Coronavirus & Vegas, and now Rioting

Sadly, it makes perfect sense. The tourism industry runs Nevada and the major hospitality companies seemingly have little regard for consumer or public safety. Profits come first. High concentration of spreaders arriving from all over the globe, sitting indoors all day with the AC cranking, recycling everyone's air = high rates of spreading.

I'm tempted to visit in late July just to dabble in some online WSOP stuff, but I don't know if it's really worth the hassle. Makes me yearn for the pre-Black Friday era when you could just jump online and hop onto any client without having to bow to the NV/NJ gambling lobby.

zero evidence of Corona spreading after cycling through the AC system and the HEPA filters. There is enough misinformation out there scaring the public, no need to create more.

I'm inclined to trust a Harvard professor over random people on the Internet who sound like they've been marinating in Fox News and right wing media.

You're not in a small room with a covid patient Haus. You are in a million square feet open air casino with tons of fresh air constantly being pushed through. Even the CDC agrees:

Can the coronavirus disease be transmitted through the air over long distances?
Airborne transmission from person-to-person over long distances is unlikely.

But keep living in fear of a disease that has so far killed 0.00007% of the world's population Haus. Living under that rock can get really uncomfortable in while

At this point I'm more inclined to trust random people on the Internet before I trust something the CDC says.

Not confirmed but I mean think about. Texas, Arizona and California have all closed their bars again this week. Is Vegas supposed to invite all those people who want to drink and have a good time while the numbers of infections are off the charts? Many staff have already tested positive and a powerful union just sued claiming insufficient protection.

I've been around the Strip this last week and I can hear people coughing wherever I go. I hate to see it happen but apparently the US claimed victory too soon.

However-zero of the HVAC systems on these buildings use HEPA filtration (too expensive)

You know this, or are you making it up?

What about the uv systems that kill microbes that some systems have?

Seriously, you believe the bolded portion of what you wrote is realistic as an assessment of risk ?

A casino is not effectively "outdoors". Also, that 1,000,000 s.f figure you use is nonsense. The largest casino floor in Las Vegas is a combined figure for the Wynn/Encore, at 187,000 s.f. Their poker room happens to be about 5,100 s.f.

https://gamboool.com/biggest-casinos...os-in-sin-city

I do not know how many s.f. of space the 5 or 6 players at a casino poker table share, but your attempt to quantify risk by claiming 1,000,000 s.f. was nonsensical in my view.

The danger of transmission is likely greatest P2P, not P2HVAC2P, P2HVAC2P as a topic is a red herring.

Yes I know this. (They have pleated media filters at the AHUís)

Most would not have a UV system unless they are mitigating an already diagnosed issue

My bad, I used s.q. feet instead of what I meant, cu feet. However, looking at the dimensions you helpfully provided it looks like I woefully underestimated the number cu. feet of air that is inside a casino. I may have needed to add another zero to my initial estimate.

Hey look Haus, if you think a droplet of corona filled spittle is going to make it out of somebody's mouth, 30 feet up to the ceiling vent, a half mile of duct, through the air conditioning unit, a half mile of duct work back, through the vent, and 30 feet through the air again and infect you by all means keep staying under that rock of yours and browse that circle jerk Reddit that you like. But stop spreading misinformation and needlessly scaring others. That is all I ask, fair enough Haus?
