I did watch the Lafayette Park footage and live, across from the White House, and aerial shots of LA. Also Union Square NYC.

To be honest, reporting on various cities was useful, but the footage added little.

What does piss me off is CNN has a Brit (Michael "Dead Air" Holmes) handling late night anchoring. He was terrible way before this crisis, has no context for reporting on US news, and is pretty befuddled/bewildered by the goings on..... almost ANY US person would be better able to handle the role .... hell, throw a bunch of money at Soledad OBrien even. (You also frequently get another Brit, whose name I don't recall, interviewing yet another Brit, for insights.) I actually turn to Fox for at least footage.

(Michael, US viewers all know that Houston is in the State of Texas, etc. even if you feel a need to "explain" things like that. )

Thanks for the reminder. During the Oct 1 Shootings, only Twitter provided current reliable information. The regular media was not nimble enough to cover a live, breaking , moving news story.

I had forgotten that lesson.

He's actually Australian, not British, and I believe that is a CNN International show aimed at Asian-Pacific markets that is simulcast on the domestic version of CNN.

That is inexcusable. The US does not merit its own 24 hour coverage for this market ? The result is a half-assed late night product.

(I know there are International editions, I get both the US and an International version on cable in Costa Rica. Those two however are always showing different content. )

Thanks for sharing.

You may prefer heavily edited and delayed local or national news coverage versus pretty much unedited, live Twitter coverage from the scene of developing stories, so, good for you.

My experience had been different that yours.

Protest supposed to be at Trump International tonight. Maybe these people are protesting for 6 max poker outside Venetian.

They should be at Carson City then. The only person that can change it is there.

So they haven't started destroying the casinos yet? I guess they don't care THAT much about George Floyd in Las Vegas.

An officer was shot early this morning on the Strip near Circus Circus while arresting someone.

The opening date for casinos is Thursday.

This does not bode well at all.

This was written Monday:

Protests don’t affect casino reopenings

"The company is still planning to reopen its properties Thursday as planned, along with other casino operators."

"No company indicated it would be deterred from reopening as planned, although El Cortez changed its opening time to 8 a.m., from 12:01 a.m., Thursday."

I am sure their plans have not changed.

However, Tuesday morning an officer was shot near Circus Circus while trying to arrest someone.

Do you expect there will not be continued disruptions, post opening, both outside and inside casinos ?

Unless racial events calm down, Las Vega loses its image as a playground. A couple more incidents on the Strip (or inside reopened casinos), and who is going to come to Las Vegas or the Strip to chill and recreate ? Traditionally, stories of disruption along the Strip are quashed or downplayed, I d't think that will work if anything erupts after re-opening.

Locals won't come to play on the Strip, they have casinos where they live and do not need to come there.

Tourists probably won't be willing to travel, just to play, since they have casinos at home and there are no shows, dining experiences, entertainment events, WSOP events, et cetera, which make up the Las Vegas experience for visitors. Summer was already a challenge for the industry to lure visitors, the virus plus riots plus cancellation of the WSOP summer dates make it moreso.

The future for Strip operators is dicey, once they reopen from the virus sh down , they then cannot shut down because of demonstrations. These are uncertain times in the short term at least.

Being attacked by rioters doesn't sound like a fun night on the Strip.

Who's got authority over Metro in Paradise? Is it the Mayor of Vegas? Or only the Governor?

Haven't heard a word from NV Governor yet. It's time to bring in National guard.

I had the fun experience of having to pick up my gf from the Encore last night when she got off at 11:15. I didnt realize that i was walking right into the mayhem at the exact time everything was popping off. I always take a side street that goes right along Resorts World construction that you come to a light to cross LVB over to the Wynn. Well everything is normal, quiet, no one really out and then i come up to the light and the road LVB is blocked off, odd. Then i look over and the Encore entrance is also completely blocked and gated off with no security out or cops and dark, really odd. So im sitting there parked at the barricade while calling her and figuring out whats going on/what we are going to do. Then while im just sitting there i start to see stragglers obviously from the protests/rioting starting to flood by and out of nowhere theres like 12 cop cars, ambulances, cop bikes all come flying down the road with their siren lights on and i know something major must have just happened. I actually thought they were coming to me at first, they almost hit my car as i was just sitting there car running parked in the middle of the road as they just blew through the barricades and went past me. Then my gf is calling me saying the Wynn security told her she cant cross she could get killed and to tell me to get out of there or i could get shot???? She ended up having a coworker drive her over to the chic fil a parking lot across from Palace Station to meet me. I went down Sammy Davis to meet them and there were tons of people walking around behind circus circus to the point where i was thinking i hope im not driving right into the middle of the rioting somehow and theres no way im coming to a stop if thats the case.

I dont really see anyway the casinos can open back up Thursday unless they set a curfew or something to get this under control.
