passenger count down
This is news? Of course passenger counts are down compared to last year before the pandemic. Year over year numbers have been significantly down for the past year now (March 1 is when the numbers started to plummet last year).

This guy puts together a really informative spreadsheet that compares last years numbers to this years LINK. You can see here that numbers are starting to rebound from the lows we saw last spring and summer.

Article didn't say but it sounds like it could be a homeless person. I have seen them get semi violent when people ignore them asking for money.

"A man is dead after being punched early Sunday morning on the Las Vegas Strip.

It happened near Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard around 4:30 a.m.

Police say a man was walking across a pedestrian bridge with a woman when the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Brandon Leath, began shouting and following them.

Investigators say Leath saw the couple going down the escalator, ran down the opposite side and waited for them at the bottom.

Leath and the victim got into a verbal argument and then Leath punched him. The victim was transported to Sunrise Hospital and pronounced dead.

LVMPD says officers monitoring real-time crime cameras observed the incident. Leath left the area, but was taken into custody a short time later."

No Resort Fees plus free wifi? Definitely a nice change from the status quo here.

I see the Casino is operated by Mohegan Sun, so I wonder if they're planning on having a poker room, either at opening or somewhere down the road.

Apparently a Murder suicide at Wynn parking garage. Wynn employee shot guard and then killed himself.

"Homicide Detective Ray Spencer said an employee who had not shown up to work for two days. On the third day, the employees arrived, prompting a welfare check by resort security.

The security guard approached the suspect to the side of the vehicle where he was shot."

"Police said the suspect then shot himself and was pronounced deceased at the scene."

Wow, because he missed the last 2 days of work without calling in, they knew to be suspicious when they saw he entered the employee garage with his key card and sent security to check it out.

If not for that, who knows what the guy had planned.

Sound like a winner, I just heard on the news that he was targeting a female employee at work. I haven't seen an article about it yet.

Apparently Wynn is finally giving armed officers body armor after they have been asking for it for years.

If I were an armed security officer, I'd buy my own armor if it wasn't provided. Bally's Security has had pistol-rated armor for many years. After the Mandalay shooter, some of them got rifle-rated armor.

Mexico's approval is required because they control the 5 mile wide strip which is the closest path from the Salton Sea to the Sea of Cortez. Another route could be chosen (e.g. to San Diego), but the distance is greater, more mountains need to be traversed, and property rights would likely become an issue.

The idea would be to desalinate the water at Salton Sea and pump to Lake Mead, about 250 miles direct path. The collection of mineral salts from the desalination process would also provide a revenue source. Lake Mead is around 1,200 ft above sea level.

Power production at Hoover Dam is down about 15% due to low Lake Mead levels. My proposal would solve that in spades. This increase would defray the power consumption cost of desalinating and pumping water. A similar but smaller scale project was proposed by LA DWP to pump water back 20 miles downstream from Hoover Dam to increase availability of power when solar collection is impossible.
Apparently an environmental group a submitted a proposal to get seawater to the Salton Sea, and California bureaucrats sat on it for a year before rejecting it last week. Go figure.

"The Salton Sea is drying up, along with water for our people and the environment," the Salton City nonprofit the EcoMedia Compass says on its website. "Let's ensure water resource sustainability for future generations, and import water from the ocean."

But advocates of tapping ocean water were dealt a significant blow when a state-appointed panel of experts rejected the idea after a yearlong review.

“It’s not feasible,” said Brent Haddad, an environmental studies professor at UC Santa Cruz who led the panel's research team. "The panel feels that the state should no longer consider water importation from the Sea of Cortez to restore the Salton Sea."

The analysis has drawn condemnation from advocates of importing seawater, who argued that it was deeply flawed and seemed geared toward ruling out the concept.
