When a "high-end property" has closed its poker room, closed its table games, closed its buffet, closed its sportsbook, and closed all clubs and most of its restaurants, what in your view makes it a high-end resort property ?

I heard that today either the MGM or the Wynn has a 19% occupancy rate now ...

so my parents decided to make an impromptu gambling trip to vegas because of the virus. how do i explain to them that it's ****ing ******ed to go to vegas right now just because it's $200 cheaper. they lose thousands at table games yet discounted rooms/flights makes the difference... half the reason they went is just so they can say "herp derp corona doesn't scare us, just a flu, great opportunity to go to vegas"

Considering the amount of play that you and Mr Whale put in, did you ever ask a host to waive your resort fees? I would hope they would at least consider it.

The problem is “only old people die” when everyone has access to hospitals, the proper medical equipment and staff. When people don’t take precautions to slow the spread of the virus, an overwhelming number of people need to go to the hospital at the same time. If you can’t get medical care, then the ICU hospitalization rate resembles the death rate. The United States has fewer hospital beds per person than China, italy and South Korea. It doesn’t look good for Americans when infections peak, hence why there is talk of flattening the curve. Being exposed isn’t the issue so much as when it happens.

The median age of hospitalization in China was 47 years old.

a little mixed messages in that article. one place article says until May 1. other place says starting March 17 for 2 weeks, which would be until April 1.

but its not in the letter, so unclear whether article author messed up the month, or miscounted the weeks. or if those two dates from from conflicting different sources?

The Wynn and Encore and MGM have closed their doors. I'm sure other Strip casinos will be following suit...

Yes, all MGM properties and some if not all Caesars poker rooms.

Predictions on last Vegas casino to shutter its doors? I'll go with El Cortez. Though a station casino seems more likely. Or authorities will put the hammer down and they'll all have to shut at once.

Even Vons was completely out of stuff like pasta, bottled water & toilet paper 2nite. They had 4 lanes open 2nite and 5 deep waiting in line. Normally if u go in there on a Sunday nite there might be one person in line max.

Vons is kinda pricey compared to Walmart so they are the last place I would expect to see sold out. Scary!

Medical and sick leave benefits will suddenly seem like more of a necessity and take its toll on their priorities, too, as well as realizing the tourists will return to full levels gradually over time making the games less lucrative for several months. Finding a job will not be easy, and many of the regs who are so inclined may return to the various parts of the world/country they originally emigrated/migrated from, or to another area where jobs are available.

I think MangoPort is right about there being a new normal, at least for several months.

I also think those areas with online poker will see somewhat of a boom, and those games will get better. Not from tourists, but from marginal regs who haven't been playing online.
I was just saying something similar to a friend. a lot of marginal 1/2 and 2/5 regs with little savings are probably toast

for many of them it's probably a good thing since they were a 2-3 month break even or losing streak from being done anyway.but this is a guaranteed break even streak for all of them.

Las Vegas is done for awhile. Cancel your plans. KUDOS to MGM and Wynn For shutting down and saving lives at great cost. Other Casinos will be following and perhaps the state will be mandating closure for those dumb asses at Boyd group and station casinos.

Players and dealers step away from the poker room and go home. Play online for awhile if you can. The spread of corona virus is just starting. your risking your life, your loved ones life when you walk in the front door of a casino or any gathering of people.

Yep, not an all time low. Way too high given the demand.

Ask them to educate themselves prior to making this potentially life changing/ending trip. Give them material for them to read/watch. Should be good material in the coronavirus threads in the business subforum and NVG.

Yep. Governor should shut it down. I could see why CZR would potentially want to stay open but it will be a big mistake IMO. They are pretty much in a no win spot.

In today's episode of People In This Town Are ****ing Animals: I'm eating at a table (purposefully) a distance away from the bar. Drunk girl comes over, puts her face a foot from my food and says "WHAT'S THAT". Yeah.

For those keeping score, Palace Station poker room is empty, but the Oyster Bar line is as long as usual.
